I Can't open files created in older versions in my nice
new version, it says "publisher cannot open files from a
different version". I know MS can be stupid, but that's
got to be a mistake!!
Suggestions??

Now, how about telling us what version you had previously, and what version
of Windows and Publisher you have now.

Just whisper it so the whole world does not know.
Trust us, we can keep a secret!

the_nerd looks solemnly at his feet. He sees some paper with Gary
Wicks's <gwi...@hotmail.com> name on..

This could be happening for a number of reasons:
1) It was created in Publisher 1.0a. You will need to have Publisher 2.0 to
be able to convert the files. Or know someone who has Publisher 2.0 and
will convert it for you.
2) It was a web page created in Publisher 2000. You will need Service Pack
2 to correct this. Service Pack 2 has not yet been released. You will have
to wait.

Try this,
Right-click the publisher file, properties, opens with, change it to your current
version of Publisher. It worked for me, maybe it will work for you. (disclaimer) all
my old files were 97 and above.

Gary,

Also make sure that you download the latest service pack for Publisher 2002
as this has addressed some problems opening older version of Publisher,
which give the exact same error message that you have received.

Actually I just realised XP upgrade I have did not
include Publisher.. so it's still Publisher 2000!
The particular file was created at head office,
in "Publisher 3.0" (looked in file with text editor) so I
assume it's 2000, but all the other files also created in
2000 work.
My colleague in head office can open it just fine!!!!

Publisher 3.0 was commonly known as Publisher 95 (or Publisher for Windows
95).
However, Publisher 2002 files sometimes display this marking in the header.
Publisher 2002 files will not. open in Publisher 2000.
The likely explanation:
Head office has Publisher 2002
You need to:
a) Get Publisher 2002 from your company
b) Ask head office to save the file as Publisher 2000 format
