Congressman Blames Jews for 'This
War With Iraq'

Jewish groups are furious at Rep. James
Moran, D-Va., for saying, "If it were not
for the strong support of the Jewish
community for this war with Iraq we would
not be doing this."

In a speech March 3, Moran "blasted the Bush
administration for its rush to war but saved
some of his harshest criticism for Jewish
leaders in the United States," the
Connection Newspapers of northern Virginia
reported Wednesday.

"The leaders of the Jewish community are
influential enough that they could change
the direction of where this is going, and I
think they should," Moran said.

Ira N. Forman, director of National Jewish
Democratic Council, said: "It is simply
stunning to hear Representative Moran make
such accusations. We can only hope that in
making these statements, the congressman is
unaware of the long and tragic history of
demagogic leaders who have singled out
Jewish communities around the world as being
responsible for various unpopular policies.
Historically, such accusations have -
wittingly or unwittingly - fed the paranoia
of the worst anti-Semitic elements in
societies, often with very tragic
consequences.

"Representative Moran's statements are also
unfortunate because they get the facts
wrong. First, a number of the current
leaders of the anti-war movement are Jewish,
as they have been throughout modern American
history. Furthermore, recent surveys have
shown that public opinion about the war
within the Jewish community is not
dramatically different than the opinion
among the general population. Moreover,
Jewish organizations have clearly not been
at the forefront among those groups actively
and stridently supporting a war in Iraq."

Ira: Lie down with dogs, wake up with fleas.

The Democrats' Latest Trent Lott

"Moran's relationship with pro-Israel
organizations and American Jewish leaders
has steadily worsened in recent years over
his pro-Palestinian stands in the Middle
East conflict, interpretation of Israeli
history and acceptance of campaign cash from
individuals sympathetic to the terrorist
organization Hamas or under investigation
for terrorist ties," the Washington Post
reported today.

"Moran has labored to emerge from a string
of personal financial problems and ethics
controversies over his acceptance of loans
from parties with interests before him.
Jewish activists said the episode threatened
to make Moran the Democratic Party's Trent
Lott, referring to the former Senate
majority leader from Mississippi who was
deposed this winter for saying that the
country would have been better off electing
a segregationist for president in 1948."

The Democrat party's Trent Lott? Oh, please.
The pro-Democrat media would never allow
that. Sen. Patty "Osama Mama" Murray,
D-Wash., should have been the Dems' Trent
Lott, yet most media yawned at her
outrageous remarks. Rep. Marcy Kaptur,
D-Ohio, just last week should have been the
Democrats' Trent Lott for her sickening
apologia for terrorism, yet the media again
are giving her a pass.

But unlike Murray and Kaptur after their
stupid remarks were exposed, Moran has at
least issued an apology of sorts. "By no
means did I intend or believe that members
of the Jewish community are united in their
support for a possible war with Iraq," he
said in a letter to Jewish Community Council
of the Washington area. "And I certainly
never meant, nor do I believe, to imply that
the Jewish community is responsible for or
should be blamed for this war."

Moran refuses to list his e-mail address on
his congressional Web site, but here are his
phone numbers: 703-971-4700 and
202-225-4376. Fax: 703-922-9436 and
202-225-0017.

Moran gets into trouble AGAIN! Amazing... This guy has already used up his 9
lives. He survives because he is (or at least was) very popular in his own
district. He is charismatic and has usually represented his very Democratic
district (Arlington; Alexandria) well. He has survived campaign scandal (I
think while in the VA legislature), an incident in which he allegedly
manhandled a 7-yr old black kid, an ugly publicly-aired divorce, and the most
recent allegations of legislative support for the credit card industry in
exchange for a very favorable mortgage. I don't think he'll survive this one,
but you never know. The man is like teflon.

He could have gone further in politics if he wasn't so freakin' sloppy all the
time.

I'll see your 27 and raise you 19! ;-) I'm 46, and the jews I know are
as divided as everyone else about this latest adventure of the boy
king's

I hate to be the one to break this news to ya, but the world is full of
"bad dudes" and many of them are amongst our greatest allies in the
fight on terrorism. Just look at our pals in Saudi Arabia, which
supplied what, 17 of 19 hijackers on 9/11. Did you know that's 17 more
than Iraq supplied?

Why this rubs me the wrong way...where to begin???

1.) any action against the Iraqi regime not sanctioned by the UN will
forever be regarded as illegal US imperialism. Therefore, the whole
charge is an oxmoron: We will invade Saddam's Iraq because he does not
abide by UN dictates, and yet we will also ignore these dictates in
order to accomplish our goals.

2.) the best way to get Saddam to shake loose & use his remaining
chemical weapon stash? a "go for broke" invasion of Iraq! So, even
though we are supposed to be going to war to prevent him from using
"weapons of mass destruction" , going to war in this manner seems to be
the best way to get him to use them! Again with the oxmorons!

Our military people are chompin' at the bit to use these toys? Oh, I
hadn't realized. Proceed with a carpet bombing of an Islamic city of 5
million. We can't disappoint our men & women in uniform and let common
sense get in the way of good time...All those future al Qaeda recruits?
We'll cross that bridge when they blow it up, eh?;-)

> Lets support them who will be asked to lay their lives on the

I support them alright: I support them not being killed in a ridiculous
war that will cost America far more than it gains .

As for the jewsih POV, Saddam may well decide to go out in a blaze of
glory, unleashing everything he has at Israel; why would Israel wish
this?

Further, Sharon (no shrinking violet himself) said he will retaliate,
and he has nukes ! If he nukes Baghdad, will the Pakistanis feel a need
to rise to the defense of their Islamic brethren & nuke Tel Aviv?

The first directive of American foreign policy should be : don't make
an existing crisis worse. this "plan" of the Bush people does not pass
that sniff test, IMO.

Sorry to interrupt the pep rally with actual thought,

JD
