I have always been a bit reticent in promoting my server NOBS in this
newsgroup. This is because I am a dedicated fan of FIBS, and I do not
want anyone to think NOBS is trying to compete with FIBS.
FIBS will always be _the_ pre-eminent internet backgammon server.

The idea behind NOBS is to provide an alternative server for those
unfortunate times when FIBS is not available. NOBS was conceived
during a couple of those awful times when the Swedish version of FIBS
was off the air for several days in a row; NOBS was improved to a point
of being usable during the rough patches as FIBS settled into its new
home in San Francisco.

NOBS is now very stable, and is online most of the time (but not 24 hours).
NOBS works very much like FIBS, and regular players should feel at home
there very quickly. NOBS works with regular telnet connections, and also
works correctly with FIBS/W, MacFIBS, tinyfugue, xfibs, BBGT, and xibc.

NOBS was online during the hours when the west-coast power failure took
FIBS offline last Saturday. Because very few players connected to NOBS
during that time, I decided I would post this reminder notice to let
people know that they have another home available when FIBS is down.

I personally am a confirmed FIBS-addict, and I know how horrible it can
be when you are forced to go without your dose of online backgammon.

NOBS can be reached via telnet to conch.aa.msen.com port 4321
(when it is connected to the net, which is not 24 hours).

Just a word of support for NOBS... It's excellent, in the way that
something that does exactly what it's meant to, in a familiar format,
with no problems (IME), is. Ie it's transparent - it's not glossy,
neither is it a headline grabber. But it works, perfectly.

Thank you again, Lou, for providing the Internet community with another
free backgammon server.
