SERVANT AND SUBJECT, VICTORY AND FELICITY.
For this sovereign observation which I've had, O Very-
Christian & very-victorious King, since that my face
standing long time obscured with cloud will present in
front of the deity of your majesty immeasurable, since
in this I've been perpetually dazzled, not desisting
from honour & with dignity to venerate that day which
firstly in front of this I myself presented, like to
one singular majesty as much human. Now searching some
occasion by which I could manifest the good heart &
frank courage, that by means of this my ability I could
make ample extension of cognisance towards your most
exalted majesty. However seeing that by effect the to
declare not it could be possible, joined with my
singular desire of my much long to be in shadows &
obscurity, been suddenly in clarity & transported in
front of the face of the sovereign eye, & of the first
monarch of the universe, so much that I've been in
doubt at length to whom I would come to consecrate
these three Centuries from the remainder of my
Prophecies, finishing the thousand-fold & after having
at length cogitated of one temerity audacious, have
taken my address towards your majesty, not standing for
that much surprise, as recount, the most gravitas
author Plutarch in the life of Lycurgus, that seeing
the offers & presents that one to make by sacrifices at
the temples of the gods immortal of that time, & to
this end that we will not ourselves surprise by too
often of the said cost & mises not ourselves to present
at the temples. This notwithstanding seeing your
splendor Royal, the accompanied of one incomparable
humanity have taken my address, not like to the Kings
of Persia, that it not could be by any means permitted
to go to them, nor less them to approach. But, to one
very prudent, to one very wise Prince, I've consecrated
my nocturnal & prophetic deductions, composed mostly of
one natural instinct: accompanied of one furor poetic,
than by rule of poetry, & the most part composed &
accorded to the calculation Astronomic, corresponding
to the years, months & weeks of the regions, countries,
& of the most part the cities, & drawn from all the
Europe, including of the Africa, & one part of the Asia
by the changing of the regions, which approaches the
most part of all these climates, & composes of one
natural faction: will respond someone which would very
much need of him to blow the nose, the rhythm been as
much facile, as the intelligence of the sense is
difficult. And for this, O very much human King, the
most part of the quatrins prophetic are so scabrous,
that we could not know to give voice nor less anyone's
interpretation, nevertheless aspiring to leave by
script the years, towns, cities regions, where the most
part will advent, even of the year 1585. & of the year
1606. at commencement since the time present, which is
the 14. of March 1557. & passing outer very far all the
way to the advent which will be after at the
commencement of the 7. millennary profoundly deduced,
as long as my calculation astronomic & other knowledge
could little to extend where the adversaries of Jesus
Christ & of his Ekklesia: will commence more strong of
to populate, the all has been composed & calculated in
days & hours of election & well disposed, & the more
justly, that to me it has been possible and by day,
Minerva libera and not unwilling deducing almost as
many of the adventures of the times to come, as of the
ages passed, comprehending of the present, & of that
which by the course of time by all regions we will come
to know the advent, all as much namely as it is written
not adding anything of superfluity, as much as we will
say: From where the future not is determined wholly
veritably. It is well true, Sire that for my natural
instinct which has been given by my lives of ancestors
not presumed presager, & adjusting & according this
natural instinct with my long deduction united, &
emptying the soul, the spirit, & the courage of all
cure, solicitude, & madness by repose & tranquility of

searching through of the human courage, pious, just, &
compassionate, is the true judge, to which I pray that

time of David & Moses has been five hundred seventy
years there around. Then after between the time of
David, & the time of our saviour & redemptor Jesus-
Christ, born of the unique Virgin, have been (according
to some Chronographers) thousand three hundred fifty
years: could object someone this deduction not been
veritable, because that she differs to one of Eusebius.
And then the time of the human redemption until to the
seduction detestable of the Sarrasins, have passed six
hundred twenty & one year, there around, from then in
this we will be able to easily colligate which times
have passed, if that my deduction not is good &
valuable by all nations, because that all has been
calculated by the course celestial, by association of
unsettling motion infused at certain hours forsaken by
the unsettling motion of my antique progenitors. But
the injury of time, O most exalted King, requires that
such secret events not would be manifested, only by
enigmatic sentence, having but one sole sense, & unique
intelligence, without having anything put of ambiguous
nor amphibolic calculation: but more rather under

to the sentence of one of the thousand & two Prophets,
which have been since the creation of the world, next
to the deduction & Chronical punic of Joel, I do pour
out spirit mine over all flesh, and have prophesied
sons yours, and daughters yours. But such Prophecy
proceeds from the mouth of the S. Spirit, which is the
sovereign puissance eternally, adjoint with the
celestial to which some of this number have predicted
some grand & marvellous adventures: Me in this place I
not to me attribute by any means this title, I to God
not would please, I confess well that the all comes
from God, & to him render graces, honour & praise
immortal, without having mixed of some divination that
portrays from fate: but from God, from nature, & the
most part the accompanied of the movement of the course

retreat, Kingdoms united, new Laws promulgated: of the
other children the first will occupy the Lions furious
crowned, holding the paws over the weapons impeded. The
second he will profound so advance by the Latins
accompanied, that will be made the second voice
trembling & infuriate at mount Jovis descendant for to
mount the Pyrenees not will be translated to the
antique monarchy, will be made the third inundation of
blood human, not he will be found of long time Mars in
Lent. And will be given the daughter by the
conservation of the Ekklesia Christian falling his
dominator to the paganism sect of the new infidels she
will have two children, the one of fidelity, & the

great puissance than the second will be received by two
people, by the first obstinate by the one which to have
puissance over all, by the second & by the third will
extend his forces towards the circuit of the Orient of

world until to the death & passion of Jesus-Christ, &
from there until here, & will be in the month of
October that some grand translation will be made, &
such that we will believe the gravity of the earth
having lost her natural movement, & been abyssal in
perpetual darkness, will be preceded by temperature
vernal, & will be ensuing after by extreme changes,
permutations of reigns, by grand trembling of the
earth, with population of the neo Babylonia, daughter
miserable augmented by the abomination of the first
holocaust, & not will hold as much only seventy three
years, seven months, then after will come out of stem
that which there had remained such long time sterile,
proceeding from the fiftieth degree, which will
renovate all the Ekklesia christian. And will be made
great peace union & concord between one of the children
of the lost fronts, & separated by diverse reigns will
be made such peace which will remain attached to the
most profound barratry the instigator & promoter of the
martial faction by the diversity of the religious, &
will be united the kingdom of the Rabidity: which will

will be at her most high & sublime dignity will draw up
from potentate & hands military & they will make
removed the two swords, & not to her will remain but
the ensigns, of which by means of the curvature that
them attracts, the people it making go straight, & not
wanting to condescend to them by the opposite of the
hand aqua, touching the earth, will want to stimulate
wholly, to which that born of one branch from the
sterile of long time, which will deliver the people

be opened the grad chain of the port which takes its
denomination from the marine ox. And will be made the
new incursion by the maritime shores, taking the leap
Castulum delivered from the premier reprise Mahumetane.
And not will be of their attacks vain, & to the place
which formerly was the habitation of Abraham, will be
assailed by persons which will have in veneration the
Jovalistes. And this city of Achem will be surrounded,
& assailed from all parts in very great puissance from
gens of armes. Will be debilitate their forces maritime
by the Occidentals. And to this reign will be made
greatest desolation, & the more great cities will be
depopulated, & those which will enter inside will be
comprehending to the vengeance of the rage of God. And
will remain the sepulcher of such grand veneration by
the space of long time under the sering at the
universal vision of the eye of the Sky, of the Sun, &
of the Moon. And will be converted the place sacred in
raising of flock small & great, & adapted in substances
profane. O what calamitous affliction will be by then
to the women pregnant: & will be by then from the
principal chief Oriental, the most part upset by the
Septentrionals & Occidentals vanquished, & put to
death, profligates, & the rest in flight, & its
children from many women imprisoned, & by then will be
accomplished the Prophecy of the Royal Prophet: As to
hear the lament of those in shackles, as to set free

by then will be made on the Princes & governors of the
Kingdoms, even of those who will be maritime &
Oriental, & their languages intermixed with greatest
society: the language of the Latins & of the Arabs by
the communication Punic, & will be all the Kings
Oriental chased profligate, exterminated, not at all by
the means of the forces of the Kings of Aquillon & by
the proximity of our century by means of the three
united secretly searching the death, & insidious by
ambushes the one of the other, & will last the
renovation of the Triumvirate seven years, that the
renowned of such sect will make its extention by the
universe, & will be sustenant the sacrifice of the holy
& immaculate offering: & will be then the Seigneurs two
in number of Aquillon, victorious over the Orientals, &
will be in these made so great noise & tumult

And for this, Sire, that by this discourse I put almost
confusedly these predictions, & when this could to be &
the adventing of these, for the numbering of the time
which ensues, that it not is at all or very little
conform to the superior: which is as much by voice
Astronomic, than by others even the sacred scriptures,
which not can fail at all, that if I would want to one
each one quatrin put the numbering of time, this could
be done: but to all not would be agreeable, neither

Nevertheless counting, the years since the creation of
the world, up until to the birth of Noah, have passed
thousandfive hundred & six years, & since the birth of
Noah until to the perfect fabrication of the ark,
approaching to the universal mondation, have passed six
hundred years (if the back they are Solars-only or
Lunars, or to the ten compoundings) I hold that which
the sacred scriptures holds that they are Solars. And
at the end of these six years Noah entered into the ark
for to be saved from the deluge: & was this deluge,
universal on earth, & lasted one year & two months. And
since the end of the deluge up until to the nativity of
Abraham, passed the number of the years of two hundred
ninety five. And since the nativity of Abraham until to
the nativity of Isaac have passed hundred years. And
since Isaac until to Jacob, sixty years from the hour
that he entered in Egypt until to the issue of this
have passed hundred thirteen years. And since the
entering of Jacob, in Egypt until to the issue of this,
have passed four hundred thirty years. And since the
issue of Egypt until to the edification of the Temple
made by Solomon in the fourth year of his reign, have
passed four hundred eighty or ninety years. And since
the edification of the temple until to Jesus Christ
according the deduction of the hierographs, have passed
four hundred ninety years. And thus by this deduction
which I've made, colligated by the sacred letters, are
around four thousand hundred seventy three years &
eight months, more or less: Now from Jesus Christ in
this by the diversity of the sects I leave, & having
deduced & calculated the present Prophecies, the all
according the order of the chain which contains his
revelation, the all by doctrine Astronomic, & according
my natural instinct. & after some time & in this
comprehending since the time that Saturn who will turn
enter at seventh of the month of April, until to the
15. of August Jupiter to 14. of June until to the 7.
October Mars since the 17. of April, until to the 22.
of June, Venus since the 9. of April until the 22. of
May, Mercury since the 3. of February, until to the 24.
of the aforesaid. In after the first of June, until to
the 24. of the aforesaid, & from the 25. of September,
until to the 16. of October, Saturn in Capricorn,
Jupiter in Aquarius, Mars in Scorpio, Venus in Pisces,
Mercury inside one month in Capricorn, Aquarius, &
pisces, The Moon in Aquarius the head of the Dragon in
Libra: the tail at his sign opposite following one
conjunction of Jupiter to Mercury with one quadrin
aspect of Mars to Mercury, & the head of the Dragon
will be with one conjunction of the Sun to Jupiter, the
year will be pacific without eclipse, & not of all, &
will be the commencement comprehending this from that
which will last & starting this year will be made more
great persecution to the Ekklisia Christian, that not
has been made in Africa, & will last this- here all the
way, to the year thousand seven hundred ninety two this
they will believe to be one renovation of century:
after will commence the people Roman of selves to
redress, & of chasing some obscure shadows, receiving
somewhat little of their pristine clarity, not without
greatest division & continual changes. Venice in after
in greatest force & puissance will raise her wings so
very high, not saying hardly to the forces of the
ancient Rome. And in these times great voices Byzantine
associated with the Ligustiques by the support &
puissance Aquilonaire, will give some impediment which
of the two Cretens not theirs will be the faith
tenuous. The arcs edified by the antique Martials,

accompanied of the elect of Modone Fulcy, by Ferrare,
witheld by Liguriens Adriatic, & of the proximity of
the great Trinacrie: Then will pass the mot Jovis, The
Gallic ogmios, accompanied of so great number that of
very far the Empire of his great law will be presented,
& by then & some time after will be shed profusely the
blood of the Innocents by the nocent one little
elevated: then by great deluges the memory of the
causes to tune of such instruments will receive
innumerable loss, even the letters: which will be
toward the Aquilonaires by the volition divine, & enter
one time to bind Satan. And will be made peace
universal between the humans, & will be delivered the
Ekklesia of Jesus Christ of all tribulation, how much
that by the Azostains will want to mix inside the honey
of the gall, & their pestilent seduction: & that much
will be near of the seventh millenary, that more the

years passed did dedicate to my son Cesar, Nostradamus

& marvelous adventures, that those which will come

temples, as the water by rain impetuous, & will be
reddened of blood the more nearby rivers, & by other
war naval to redden the sea, that the rapport of one
King to the another him will be said: Pretty to redden
by ships the sea surface. Then in the same year & the
following this will ensue the most horrible pestilence,
& the more marvellous by the famine precedent, & so
great tribulation that never has advent such since the
premiere foundation of the Ekklesia Christian, & by all
the regions Latin, remaining by the vestiges in some
countries of the Spainish. By then the third King
Aquilonaire is intent the plaint of the people of his
principal title, will set up so great army, & will pass
by the straights of his last lives of ancestors &
great-grandfathers, which will remit the most part in
his status, & the grand Vicar of the cape will be
remise in his pristine state: but desolate, & then of
all abandon, & will turn to be Holy of Holies destroyed
by Paganism & the old & new Testament will be away
chased, burned, in after the Antechrist will be the

all the Royals of the Christianity, & also of the
infidels, by the space of twenty five years, & will be
more grievous wars & battles, & will be towns, cities
castles, & all other edifices burned, desolated,
destroyed, with great effusion of blood vestal,
spouses, & widowers violated, children of milk against
the walls of the towns dashed & broken, & much of
malifices they will commit by the means of Satan,
prince infernal, that almost the world universal will
find undone & desolate: & before these advents some
birds strange will cry out by the air, Now now, & will
be after some time vanish. And after that such time
will have lasted long time, will be almost renovating
another reign of Saturn, & century of gold, God the
creator will say intending the affliction of his
people, Satan will be put, & tied in the abyss of the
barratry inside the profound pit: & having therefore
will commence between God & the men one peace
universal, & will remain tied about the space of
thousand years & will turn in his more great force, the
puissance Ecclesiastic, & then turn to untie. That all
the figures are justly adapted by the divine letters to
the things celestial visible, this is to know, by
Saturn, Jupiter, & Mars, & the other conjoins, as made
more at plain by other quatrins we will see. I could
have calculated more profoundly, & adapted the ones as
with the others. But seeing O most Exalted King, that
some ones of the censure will find difficulty, which
will be cause to retire my pen from my repose
nocturnal: Many events as yet, O king of all most
powerful, very clear and sane in brief to come, yet
wholly in this your epistle to connect not we are able,
neither are willing: but also to understand certain
fact horrid to say, little libation whatever, though
much so great to be in the wholeness of your greatness
and humanity human, god-like piety, as the sole
magnificent and Christian King to name, and to whom the
highest of all religious authority deferring dignity to
be seen. But so much only I of you requires, O King
very clement; by this your singular & prudent humanity,
to hear more rather the desire of my courage, & the
sovereign study that I've to obey to your most Exalted
Majesty, since that my eyes were so close of your
splendour Solar, that the grandeur of my labour not
attaint nor rest.
