Does anyone know of any place online where I can play other variations
of BG, other than VOG? I really enjoy many of the different ways to
play. I am looking for free sites where I can do this.

Thanks in advanced.

I have the same query for the Greek variations of backgammon, plakoto
and moultezim (fevga). I only know a book about these variations,
writen by Nikolaos and Vasilios Tzannes -has anybody read it btw?

Re: the book 'Backgammon Games and Strategies' by the Tzannes brothers

Here's a brief overview.

Approx 50 pages are devoted to regular backgammon and a single page on the
cube.

70 pages dedicated to Plakoto including recommended initial moves with some
more advanced strategy and an annotated sample game.

75 pages dedicated to Moultezim same format as in Plakoto but with 3
annotated games.

A brief explanation of the game of Gioul.

The usual bg probability tables and glossary.

Basically the book is aimed at the beginners market and of only of interest
for its content on Plakoto and Moultezim.

The following book is written in Greek and consists of two volumes on Greek
Backgammon. It probably would be worth checking out if you speak the
language.

'To tavli : axia kai omorphia : epistŻemonikŻe kai methodikŻe analysŻe tŻon
paihnidiŻon : portes-plakŻoto-boultezim'

author is - Maltezopoulos

published by AthŻena : A.V. Maltezopoulos, 1982.

I have read all Antonis Maltezopoulos' books in Greek. He is a very
much respected and nice man, pioneer of modern backgammon in Greece.
He is about 75 years old now now, and no more active in playing,
although he will play you if you visit him at his home in Athens!

Actually, he has written 2 books, the second one consisting of 3 -so
far- volumes. The first book was an intro to the game, published many
years ago.

Then followed the second book, which is much more advanced and uses
extended bibliography taken from all known international books and
annotated matches. It will be completed when all 4 volumes will be
published. The 3rd one saw the light this year in a limited edition of
only 100 copies. Its sole subject is the use of cube. I had the
pleasure to submit an article about this volume in a daily paper, a
few months ago.

Greek players are encouraged to read Maltezopoulos' books.
