Title: Pistol-Packin' Pink
Author: monkee
email: wie...@earthlink.net
Series: TNG
Pairing: W/T
Part: 1/1
Rating: PG-13
Date Posted: 4 June 2003

Summary: Worf discovers that Deanna Troi is not all sugar and spice when
they revisit the Ancient West.

Disclaimer: Paramount owns Star Trek: The Next Generation, and all its
characters.

Author's Note: This is my first honest-to-goodness TNG fanfic. I'm not
anti-Imzadi, but I always thought Worf and Troi would make an interesting
couple, too. A response to the OPI nail polish challenge.

~*~

Lieutenant Worf glowered approvingly at his reflection in the mirror. His
hat was on straight, and his star-shaped badge was perfectly polished. He
looked like just the sort of man the citizens of Deadwood, South Dakota
could depend upon, as their sheriff, to keep them from harm.

He found that he was looking forward to the afternoon, and not just because
he would be spending time with Alexander. Something about the Ancient West
scenario appealed to him. Perhaps it was the fact that his character was in
law enforcement. Or maybe he just appreciated the smells and sounds of the
dusty old town - the stale scent of sweat and alcohol in the saloon, and the
clopping of horse hooves on the streets. He liked the way the costume felt
against his skin, particularly the vest and the snug pants - much more in
the spirit of Klingon garb than his Starfleet uniform.

He shook his head. Alexander was late again. He had tried to impress upon
the boy the importance of punctuality, but he seemed unable to grasp the
concept. In a rare moment of benevolence, he decided it wasn't that
important for today. They did, after all, have the holodeck reserved for two
hours.

Besides, he could use the time to work on his quick-draw. It was a source of
private humiliation to him that Deanna Troi was better at this than he was.
He was the ship's Chief of Security - why couldn't he unholster his gun with
alacrity?

He adopted the ready stance, then drew as quickly as he could.

He grunted. Not bad, but there was still room for improvement. At least he
hadn't accidentally fired the gun at his foot this time. He could still see
the smirk on the Counselor's face from their previous impromptu contest.

He was just reholstering the weapon when the door to his quarters burst
open.

"I'm sorry, father!" Alexander said, immediately. "I know I'm late!"

"It is all right," Worf said, proud at himself for being so tolerant. "But
our scheduled holodeck time has already begun. You must change quickly."

"I can't go," Alexander said, looking down at the floor, then back up at his
father. "I'm sorry. But Mr. Gillest wants us to do a report on plants, and
Jenna Clark and I are partners and we volunteered to go first because no one
else would so we have a lot of work to do because it's due the day after
tomorrow. I guess I sort of forgot that we were supposed to go to Deadwood.
I'm sorry. Maybe...maybe we could still go, and I could tell Jenna..."

The words came out in a rush, but Worf got the general gist. He held up his
hand to put a stop to the explanation.

"No," he said. "No - schoolwork must always come first. I know that you are
disappointed, but I can reserve time on the holodeck for next week. And I am
proud of you and Jenna for volunteering to go first. A Klingon never
procrastinates."

Alexander's whole face lit up in response to the compliment, and the promise
of rescheduling the long-anticipated return trip to the Ancient West. The
boy's smile told Worf that he'd done something right as a parent for a
change, and it was impossible not to smile back, just a little.

"Thank you, father!" Alexander said, as he threw his books on the couch.
"I'm meeting her in the arboretum now, so I'll see you later, okay?"

He was out the door before Worf even had a chance to respond. He shook his
head, and began untying his bandana.

His commbadge chirped. "Troi to Worf. Are you two coming? The town of
Deadwood awaits!"

He blew out a frustrated breath. How could he have forgotten that she was to
join them? And now she was already there, waiting. He had not meant to be
rude.

"We...I will be there shortly," he said, deciding that it would be better to
make his apologies in person.

~*~

"Oh, that's too bad," Troi said, sympathetically. "You will remember to
bring him back, though, right? It means a lot to him that you want to do
this."

"Of course," Worf replied, after a beat. He was a bit distracted, because he
suddenly realized that he might have had an alternative motive for
apologizing in person. When they'd been here before, he'd found it
difficult not to admire the counselor's 'Durango' costume. The pants were
black leather, and even tighter than his own jeans. She'd caught him looking
at her, once, when he was supposed to be noticing 'Miss Annie' instead, and
he'd been embarrassed. It was inappropriate for him to be gawking at her.
She was his superior officer, not to mention the long-term
on-again-off-again love interest of his best friend.

Now, he forced his eyes to stay on her face, but that wasn't much help
either. She had beautiful, long hair, and her eyes...they were so dark, and
seemed so sensual, no matter where she was or what she was doing...

He shook himself out of his improper reverie, then cleared his throat. "I
apologize for the inconvenience," he said, stiffly. "I will see you on the
bridge."

"Oh, don't go!" she said, sincerely, grasping his arm. "Let's you and I
play!"

"Klingons do not 'play'," he protested.

"I don't buy that," she said, smiling. "Come on, Worf. It'll be fun. We can
work on your quick-draw. You almost had it, before..."

Oh, she had to bring that up. She was already heading into the saloon. He
sighed, and followed her in. Perhaps it wouldn't be so bad, he thought.
Walking behind her, it was impossible not to notice the way her hips swayed.
Surely it wasn't dishonorable just to look...

~*~

An hour later, they were scooting, under the cover of brush, along the dusty
hillside behind the buildings on Main Street. 'Durango' had convinced
'Sheriff Worf' that a little bit of subterfuge would be prudent. Hollander
had scheduled a showdown for high noon, but he was legendary for his
set-ups. Some of his henchmen were bound to be in hiding, in case things
didn't go well for their boss.

With a tilt of his head, Worf gestured for Troi to move ahead to the next
bush. When she was clear, he followed her there, and knelt beside her as
they both caught their breath. He couldn't believe how much he was enjoying
this. It was almost unseemly for a Starfleet officer to be having this much
fun on the holodeck. Troi turned to look at him, and her eyes were sparkling
with pleasure and excitement, as he was sure his must be. Her face was
smudged with dirt, and there was a faint sheen of sweat on her forehead. He
could feel the perspiration running down his neck as well.

"I don't see them," she whispered, "but they just have to be here."

"Perhaps on the other side of the street," he suggested.

There was a soft crackle behind them, and he responded to it immediately,
whirling on his heel as he drew out his weapon in one smooth movement. He
went down on one knee as he cocked the trigger, and fired as soon as his
eyes located the target.

One of Hollander's henchmen fell heavily to the ground - like a sack of
potatoes, as his adoptive mother would say. He didn't get up again. Worf
turned to Troi. Her weapon was drawn, too, but his was the one that was
smoking.

"Worf!" she exclaimed, grinning. "You did it! You shot him! That was
amazing - you really have the hang of it now!" She started towards him, but
the spur of her boot caught in the brush, and she toppled forward, directly
into his arms.

And then those dark eyes were only centimeters from his. At first, they
registered only the surprise of the stumble, but that look was replaced by
wry amusement as she recovered, and he made no move to let go of her.

This was why the holodeck was so dangerous, he'd think later. It blurred all
the lines between the professional and the friendly, the practical and the
impulsive. Thus, when she smiled mischievously at him, and said, in a low
voice, "What's the matter...Sheriff?" he found himself lowering his head to
hers, taking her lips, winding his fingers into her hair to pull her closer.

And she responded, softening her lips beneath his, moving her hands from his
arms to his chest, and then down to his waist. She tugged her boot free of
the brush, found her balance again, and pressed against him just as he was
pressing against her.

His blood was burning and pounding in his veins - he could actually hear it.
Then he heard something else filtering through the passionate haze.

"Well, well, well...what have we here?"

It was the familiar drawl of Eli Hollander, who'd apparently crept up behind
them. Worf broke the kiss, and he and Deanna looked over at Hollander, their
eyes glazed. They were both breathing hard. Hollander had his pistol pointed
directly at them.

"Guess I caught you with your pants down, Sheriff. Almost, anyway.
Dilly-dallying around with the mysterious stranger. Ms. Annie's not gonna
like this one bit, no sir. But it's good news for me, ain't it..."

"Computer, delete characters."

Deanna's exasperated voice put an abrupt end to Hollander's ramblings, as he
shimmered away with his mouth still moving. And then it was just the two of
them, alone in the dusty, windswept town. He turned back towards her,
acutely aware of their solitude. They stared at each other, wordlessly.
Neither of them had managed to get their breathing back under control yet.
The amusement in her eyes had now been replaced by what looked like desire.
Hunger. She reached up and fingered the edge of his vest tentatively, then
suddenly bunched it up into her fist and pulled him back down to her lips.

The aggressive move elicited a groan from him, and he wrapped his arm around
the small of her back and wrenched her towards him, a little harder than he
meant to. She didn't pull away in outrage, though - instead, she moved in
closer, grinding her pelvis into his groin, which promptly responded in the
usual way.

Kahless, she was surprising him. He'd long suspected this kind of passion
lurked beneath her cool exterior, but he never thought he'd see it
confirmed. Their mouths were moving with a rhythm that matched the throbbing
pulse of his blood, and his arousal. Her teeth grazed his lips as she pushed
her tongue into his mouth, probing, tangling with his. He heard a sound, and
realized that it was a low growl, coming up from his own throat. She
responded by digging her fingernails into his forearm.

He couldn't even see straight anymore. The holographic world was turning
red. He pulled away from her slightly, still growling, and bared his teeth.

This had to stop. If it didn't stop right now, there would be no turning
back. Seeing the wild, animalistic look in his eyes, she seemed to reach the
same conclusion. They pulled apart, panting - both of them clearly
struggling not to continue the kiss, with its inevitable outcome.

They regarded each other somewhat warily as their breathing slowed, then,
abruptly, she smiled. Her whole face lit up, and the tension disappeared as
she began to chuckle. "Oh, my," she said, shaking her head.

"Deanna...Counselor," he began, flummoxed by what had happened, and her
amused reaction. "I...apologize. I was out of line."

"Relax, Worf," she said. "It was both of us. We were caught up in the game.
It just happened, that's all. It doesn't have to mean anything. It can't
mean anything, really."

He exhaled, and the rest of his own tension dissipated. "I agree," he said.
After a moment, he added, "So, we do not have to...talk about it?"

She laughed outright, then. "Not unless you really want to," she said.

"No," he replied, quickly, which just made her laugh harder.

Worf's allotted time in the holodeck was nearly over. They both began
walking slowly, heading for the General Store, the location of the arch in
this program. He was still puzzled by what had transpired, and just needed
to be sure he understood.

"So, we are not..." he struggled to find the words, but she came to his
rescue.

"No, Worf," she said, no longer laughing, but still smiling. She stopped
walking and touched his arm, forcing eye contact. "I think we both know it
wouldn't work out in the long run." She slapped him playfully on the arm,
and resumed walking.

"It was damned nice, though," she said over her shoulder, winking.

This time he smiled, too.

~*~

As they exited the holodeck and walked through the corridors to the
turbolift, he stole glances at her. She was calm and smiling serenely, as if
nothing unusual had happened, and he marveled at the dichotomy that was
Deanna Troi. She could outdraw him, and she kissed with the hot passion of a
Klingon, yet he knew the next time he saw her, she'd be dressed in her cool,
blue counselor's gown, or wearing something pink and feminine in Ten
Forward. It was difficult to reconcile the two women he'd seen, but they
were one and the same. The leather-clad 'Durango' existed within the
professional, empathic woman in pink. It was intriguing, and very
provocative. He knew she was right; they couldn't get involved, at least not
under the current circumstances. But perhaps someday...

Stranger things had happened.

The End.

Ooooh, I didn't really have time to read this, but Worf/Troi is so
rarely written that I took the time anyway and what a treat! Very
well-written, you captured the characters wonderfully.

Don't tell anyone, but having written both W/T and R/T--the W/T
pairing is actually more fun to write. Don't get us wrong, Imzadi is
a great pairing. W/T just has a sort of flavor to it that's fun to
play with.

ROTFLMAO! Too funny.

Nice image of him having fun in spite of himself.

Loved that it was Deanna who sent the annoyance away.

Very, very nice kiss. (It was a little mean of you to set up such a
hot kiss and then stop, but given the PG-13 rating, it was expected).

Anyway, great story. You should definitely do more TNG.

I liked this, very much so. There isn't enough Worf/Troi fanfic out
there and you addressed their relationship very nicely. Loved the
seductive Troi here! And conflicted Worf was very much in character, but
I loved how he sneaked a peak anyway even though he knew he shouldn't.
Very nicely done.

Nice work Monkee!

I know the TNG actors never understood why the writers paired up Troi
and Worf but I always thought it made sense. You captured the
attraction perfectly.

I suspect the actors never get to appreciate the shows as the viewers
do.

Haha - I'm glad I'm not the only one who reads things when they really don't
have time. Once, my daughter even missed her bus because of me...
And thanks - writing Worf was kinda fun!

Maybe I'll warm up to a higher rating later...
Thanks again!

Thanks, Catherine,
Yeah, I really thought they were onto something when they introduced the
pairing. I'd been noticing the chemistry for a couple of years in little
scenes. They had that whole 'Beauty and the Beast' thing going for them...
Oh, well. Nothing inherently wrong with R/T, I suppose. And I liked Dax.
Thanks for reading!

Didn't you always get the idea that there was SO much more to Troi than met
the eye?

I'd be honored. I've already read most of the others, even the non-Trek
ones. It's a really fun challenge!

I didn't have time to read this either, but I saw "monkee" and I saw "W/T" and
was helpless to resist. Glad I didn't.

The attraction was palapable, the we-can't-but-gotta-try dynamic lovely. Would
love to see more W/T!

Glad you enjoyed it. I'd love to write more W/T when I can find the time, if
my muse complies.
