Take the 5 south until you hit 405, go south
on 405, take a right on Beach Blvd, turn right
when you run out of road, park anywhere you want.
surf's up!

Yeah there's lots of them in Big Sur.
I can clear all the kooks out and
send them up to, say, Oregon, if you
let us know where all the good waves
are...

You sir, have just directed the oregonlocal to Huntington Beach.
This is probably not what he had in mind.
Good job.

I sure hope you are not aiming for a career in comedy because your act
needs a lot of work. I guess that is what happens when you only surf San
O day in and day out. Jump back, it is the longboard attack. I am
looking for useful information on the Central Coast such as what reefs
light up during a real deal holyfield swell and if most of the good
breaks require repelling down cliffs. The betty is not up for that but
sometimes you got to do what you got to do. At least she can film if
there is no fog.
Who is JB and Lem? Are they like Ren and Stimpy? Beavis and Butthead?

Au contraire, it was an excellent reply to a pretty good troll, IMHO.

If you help me with my comedy act, I'll help you
with your new profile.
Never mind, I'll help you for free.
I dig the cool old timey surf lingo coming out of the
wilds of the Oregon coast. 'betty', 'your 411', etc.
It would help though, to pretend a complete ignorance
of usenet, that way it appears that a wild loner on the
lam from drug charges in Cali has realized the statute
of limitations in Cali has run out this year, so he
wants to go back to check things out.
O-dog has some good friends and a good 'betty' (hee hee)
at his secluded hamlet a 1/4 tank of gas north of Coos
Bay, but he's the only one to really surf the area and
has gotten enough solitary barrels in thelast 10 years
to blow the aggro completely out of him.
A new interesting personality on AS would be someone
who pops out of the past with complete ignorance of
anything that's happened in the last 20 years, has
been surfing ever since, shaping his own boards of
ancient designs, and of course puffing on weed.
Maybe have a pet shark, a 20ft white you at your private
reef every day that checks you out but hasn't tried
to take a bite since that first time in 85. Ever
since you've been bringing him deer carcass a couple
times a week.
The 'repelling' stuff is sort of cliche on AS,
isn't it?
Mike
And the men in grey suits will clean your sorry carcass.

There are some stupid people in this newsgroup. How many of you besides
Bud from Hawaii surf? Surfing the Internet does not count. Back to the
original question. I know someone out there has surfed the waters
between Monterey and Pismo Beach and if you are out there drop me a line
and give me the 411 on the place. I am an accomplished surfer who has
traveled throughout most of Northern California surfing a variety of big
wave breaks. I am wondering if the Central Coast fairly similar?
Thanks to any real surfers who can help.
Hey bro have you ever thought about becoming a storywriter? It would
take time out of your longboarding schedule but one less battleship in
the water would suit me just fine.
nobody is gonna cough up their secret spots to an outsider... especially in a
public forum. Their are several secret reefs between big sur and morro bay but
they are fickle, localized and often hairball. my best advice is check out
swell.com's travel section for the low down. Finding them is up to
you...(hint) they're all off of hwy 1, how hard can that be? good luck

I was not expecting anyone to make mention of secret spots on the
Central Coast to this newsgroup. That would be like exposing your
privates during Sunday mass at church. I also will not check out
anything by Swill.com because those kooks are just out to make money and
do not care who they piss off by exposing certain surf breaks. I was
banking that someone would drop me an e-mail and give me some local
knowledge especially when it comes to those hard to find fickle waves.
This does not surprise me coming from a Washington state surfer. Are you
stuck in Westport and the only way to relieve tension is to be a hardass
on usenet? I hear masterbation is a good stress reliever and you can do
it without making a fool of yourself. If you read the header for this
thread you will notice that I am not trolling but rather looking for
information about a surfing destination.
And the Surf Mags are just out to make money, so they just have pictures
of the Top Talent on Sunny Days exposing logos.
But in my estimation, a magazine and articles should be about getting and
learning
information. But the Surfing Mags give little attention to
giving the low down on a Particular Break and rarely if ever display a
picture
showing a layout of the break, location, or other info. Likewise, they
usually ignore useful articles about Sandbarformation, board design( you'll
get some saccharine board design articles occasionally),
and countless other interesting venues.
Most of their articles are just adolescent blather, in odd , unreadable
fonts focusing on
the Top Surfing Talent wearing Label Clothing and Surfing Label Products.
Gloss and Worthless Gab that serves as nothing more than an Industry
Promotional Magazine.
At least Swell.Com is giving us some REAL content.
I wont even talk about your blather...you come here wanting info....and yet
you berate
Legitimate Sources of it....
Jane I am sorry if the term betty offends you but the girl calls
herself that and the name sort of stuck. It may have something to do
with the tattoo of Betty Boop she has on her butt. <smiles>
Hi Team Kmart,
I have a hard time believing Swell.com is giving out real surfing
content when they are reviewing Amy Cobb's Playboy spread. Unless you
are a horny teenage boy, something like that is pretty useless. I think
there are a lot of surfers out there who are not happy with what
Swell.com did with their travel articles. LowCal may be used to not
having any secret spots, but there are areas on their maps that should
have stayed off.
I personally would rather talk to surfers who live in certain areas
because they are far more in tune with the ocean and their breaks than
people who are just passing through.
That is my $.02 anyway :->

Thanks, that was a very nice apology ;) Being a woman, I am occasionally
quick to take offense at names that don't reflect my own sense of self, or
hold enough value. I hate when women undervalue themselves, and I tend to
pay attention to stuff like that, even when it's harmless. I tend to like
guys who refer to their wives and significant others as someone who they
worship a bit (as Foon does for Mrs. Foon) instead of off-handedly, but
that's my preference.

Bitch is at least a term with some guts, as opposed to a little girl
moniker. I am a "bitch" at times, but never a little girl.

You won't miss much.
Breaks are plentiful. All close to route 1. If you catch a good
day by random in February it will be a miracle. You best bet is
to hit Santa Cruz's east side on a weekday mid morning, and
then high tail it down to Quattros.

Jane I can assure you that my girl does not undervalue herself and she
gives me a good slap or burns me when I make a bad joke about the betty
reference. To be honest she has been the biggest influence outside of my
old man when it comes to surfing. She has no fear and pushes me into
situations that I would probably overlook. A few weeks ago she took off
on a suckout wave and then took a trip over the falls after her board. I
freaked and paddled into the impact zone to find her. She came up
smiling and said the damn board bonked her on the noggin then paddled
back out for more. She is my hero!
I saw you participating in the "tattoo" thread w/ eric.

You will have to ask the betty if you can see her tattoo but you will
have to ask very nicely.
Ok. I'll ask her. Whats her name? Is she a "dancer"?

Hmmm... I've been told that there are breaks on the Farallon Islands. I
don't remember anyone claiming to have been stupid enought to have
surfed them. What would be the tradeoff? How good are the waves and how
large is the probability of ending up an appetizer?
<snip>
Not to be all contrary, but I find that both Rank Byte and the Surf
Reports miss a lot; even on the spots they do hit, a lot of the details
re: optimum tide, wind, swell direction etc. are simply wrong. Whether
this is intentional misinformation or mistakes or both, it's there. It
often takes careful sleuthwork and access to local knowledge to score the
good stuff.

I ran the following in my pacificwaverider.com column on Nov. 28, 2000.
Locals Only -- Don't Surf Here
The Marin IJ had a great shark/surfer story in Friday's paper.
Reporter Nels Johnson wrote about four men, all Muir Beach volunteer
firefighters, going out to the Farallones to fish. Two were surfers
who took along their boards hoping to surf off these islands 30 miles
due west from San Francisco.
"But they decided against venturing into the water after encountering
divers who were filming great whites from a shark cage. Don't even
think about surfing, the divers warned, adding they seen three great
whites that morning. The divers suggested the fishermen check it out
by towing a surfboard as a seal decoy to attract a shark."
They did that, towing it 20 feet behind them. Fifteen minutes later,
this is what happened.
"The shark just came out of nowhere, it came directly from underneath
and knocked the board out of the water...and the shark came completely
out of the water...The four anglers looked on in stunned disbelief."
The shark was about 15 feet and the surfboard ended up with a fist-
sized ding where the shark hit is with its nose.
Moral of this story -- in these waters, don't mess with the locals.
