Hi-

I'm looking for a small shareware of freeware program that can convert
Word documents into ascii. Anyone know where I could find one of these?

My goal is to easily convert all the silly .doc files people keep
sending me into something readable.

Thanks.

There are a slew of converters around. I use mswordview on OpenServer.

http://www.gnu.org/~caolan/docs/MSWordView.html or
http://skynet.csn.ul.ie/~caolan/docs/MSWordView.html

word2x and laola are similar programs.

It's been my experience that no software will convert the average
Word document into something readable...

Just have them save those silly .doc files as simple .txt files
before they attach them.

Or, it used to be that MSoft had a PC program for word conversion.
Seems like the one time I bought it, it cost $10. Since
that was back when b. gates thought the internet was going nowhere,
I suspect you can find the utility on their web site and download
it for no charge.
