We recently purchased the DCW intending to integrate pieces of it into a
GRASS GIS on ancient Greece that we are building. It looks like a wonderful
piece of work and should become a standard source. However, I haven't heard
of any translators available from VPF format to any other formats which
GRASS or other GIS's can read (dxf, etc.). Do such creatures exist or are
they being built? How is it possible to integrate data from the DCW into
another
GIS?
As an interim measure we tried using the VPFView software to grab screen
dumps of pieces of the DCW and incorporating the resulting rasters into
GRASS (a poor substitute I know but all I could think of) -- only to find
that the VPFView doesn't seem to run on an IBM PS/2, which is the only DOS
machine available to us with a CD-ROM drive. I hear that there is a UNIX
version of VPFView, maybe in beta only; but we need special permission to
get a copy -- does anybody know anything about this?
I'd be most grateful for any help anybody could offer. Thanks in advance,
