Prefatory note: This may be the last time I'll be doing this. My
employment contract with Teradata/NCR expires this Friday and, though
I'm negotiating to extend it, the outcome is presently uncertain.

If I'm not extended, I'd like to take this opportunity to say adios to
all the friends I've developed in the year I've been posting to the
net. It's been fun, and keep in touch.

Results from a card staged at Auditorio Benito Juarez in Veracruz,
Veracruz Mexico and broadcast over Galavision on Sunday, July 19,
1992.

First Match:

Psicosis (masked - Mexico), El Magnate (masked - Mexico), and Marabunta
(masked - Mexico) (heels) vs. El Rey Misterioso, Jr. (masked - Mexico),
Winner (masked - Mexico), and Super Calo (masked - Guatemala) (faces);
El Tirante and Sargo (?) (referees).

Psicosis (Psychosis) has the wildest mask I've ever seen - it makes
Jushin Liger's look conservative in comparison. He has a pair of horns
with about a 2 or 2.5 foot span sticking out the sides and long wild
"hair" all over it. Crazy! :-)

El Magnate (The Magnate) is a Million Dollar Man-type of gimmick. He
has dollar signs on his tights and mask. Pretty well put together for a
lucha libre guy, he spent more time flexing than he did wrestling. He
was announced as being from Las Vegas. Guadalajara seems more likely to
me :-)

Marabunta (nobody knows what that means) is a CMLL remnant - a middle
carder at best.

El Rey Misterioso, Jr. (The Mystery King) instantly became my favorite
luchador. I've never seen or heard of this guy before, but he executed
the wildest moves I've ever seen. Example: During the third fall he
took off in a balls out sprint, leapt to the second rope near one of
the corners, then did a moonsault (back flip) over the top rope on the
*other* side of the turnbuckle onto his opponent who was standing on
the floor. Just incredible!

Somebody who understands English must have had a chat with Winners
(sic) who is now calling himself Winner. An outstanding, up-and-coming
kid with lots of potential.

Super Calo, "El Rey de Rap," has an interesting mask. Kinda looks like
he's wearing a nylon stocking over his head... only there are
sunglasses over the eyes. Very strange. Super Calo (accent on the "o")
means something like "Super Rapper," and the guy does a dance shtick
every time he enters the ring.

First Fall: Rey Misterioso pins Marabunta with a hopping Frankensteiner
(i.e., he nails the guy with the Frankensteiner, then hops him around
the ring in a pinning position).

Second Fall: Psicosis pins Rey Misterioso after hitting him with a
cross body press from the top.

Third Fall: Marabunta kicks Super Calo hard in the balls right in front
of both referees, resulting in an instant DQ of the heels.

Second Match:

Picudito (masked - Mexico), Jerrito Estrada (Mexico), and Piratita
Morgan (Mexico) (heels) vs. Angelito Azteca (masked - Mexico),
Octagoncito (masked - Mexico), and Mascarita Sagrada (masked - Mexico)
(faces); Pepe Casas and Pepe Magarol (?), referees.

Some of the Mexican midget wrestlers are just phenomenal, and none is
better than Mascarita Sagrada. He's extremely tiny - far smaller than
any of the other midgets, but he's a phenomenal acrobat and a very
stiff worker - both offensively and defensively. I've seen him get
posted square in the face on numerous occasions. His head must ring for
days after taking one of those.

First Fall: Piratita Morgan pins Mascarita Sagrada.

Second Fall: Octagoncito pins Picudito with a Frankensteiner, as does
Angelito Azteca Jerrito Estrada. All the while, Mascarita Sagrada is
executing a front flip plancha (think of Cactus Jack) from the ring
apron onto Piratita Morgan.

Third Fall: After a rudo comedy of errors (accidentally drop kicking
and punching one another repeatedly), the fall ends with the heels
being counted out after all had been planchaed to death. After the
fall, Jerrito Estrada and Piratita Morgan get back in the ring and slug
it out.

Third Match:

Angel Azteca (masked - Mexico), Galactico (masked - Mexico), Panterita
Del Ring (masked - Mexico) (faces) vs. La Parca (masked - Mexico),
General Rambo (Mexico?), and Ice Killer (masked - Mexico) (heels); El
Tirante and Pepe Casas (referees).

I'd never seen Panterita Del Ring (Little Panther of the Ring) or
General Rambo before. I wasn't impressed by either of them.

First Fall: Angel Azteca pins Rambo after drop kicking him from the top
rope.

Second Fall: La Parca ("Death") pins Panterita after hitting him with a
flying head butt from the top rope.

Third Fall: General Rambo pins Panterita with a modified Frankensteiner
followed by a bridge.

Fourth Match:

Cien Caras (Mexico), Blue Panther (masked - Mexico), Jerry Estrada
(Estados Unidos?) (heels) vs. Hijo Del Santo (masked - Mexico), Octagon
(masked - Mexico), and Konan (Miami, Florida) (faces); El Tirante and
Pepe Casas (referees).

First Fall: Octagon and Hijo Del Santo pin Jerry Estrada after trading
elbow drops on him.

Second Fall: Cien Caras pins Hijo Del Santo.

Third Fall: Octagon pins Jerry Estrada while Hijo Del Santo is pinning
Blue Panther with a Frankensteiner.

I've only been watching lucha libre for two years, and they've been
doing Frankensteiners all that time. Does anybody know if Scott Steiner
got the move from lucha libre, or if the lucha libre guys copied it
from him? The luchadors sure do more variations on it, and their
opponents always sell it better than you'll ever see in the States.
