News:

There's a new world's middleweight champion: Atlantis. There's also a
new world 6-man tag team champ: Los Intocables. And... apparently,
Pierroth defeated Jerry Estrada to capture the world's light
heavyweight title.

Popularity Ratings:

Faces Heels Women Midgets
----- ----- ----- -------

1 - Octagon Blue Panther Martha Villalobos Mascarita Sagrada
2 - Atlantis Sangre Chicana Lola Gonzalez Octagoncito

6-Man Tag Team
--------------

1 - Los Intocables
2 - Los Brazos

First Match:

Los Intocables: Pierroth, Jr. (masked - Mexico), Jaque Mate (masked -
Mexico), Masakre (Mexico) (heels) vs. Apolo Dantes (Mexico), Octagon
(masked - Mexico), Mascara Sagrada (masked - Mexico) (faces); Pepe
Casas and Rafael Almaya (referees); heels win 2/3 falls.

First Fall: Jaque Mate submits to Octagon's crucifix variant.

Second Fall: Pierroth pins Dantes by standing on his chest after Jaque
Mate had drop kicked Apolo from the top rope. Interestingly, Pierroth
almost lost his balance while pinning Dantes, and Apolo reached up and
steadied his leg.

Third Fall: Mascara Sagrada submits to a weird hold from Pierroth -
sort of an upside down surfboard.

After the match, the face team challenges the heels to a match for the
6-man championship.

Second Match:

Conan (Florida, USA), Perro Aguayo (Mexico), and El Rayo de Jalisco,
Jr. (masked - Mexico) (faces) vs. Cien Caras (Mexico), Mascara An~o
2000 (masked - Mexico), Universo 2000 (masked - Mexico) (heels);
Roberto Rangel and Gato Montini (referees); faces win 2 straight
falls.

First Fall: El Rayo forces Mascara An~o 2000 to submit to an inverted
surfboard.

Second Fall: Conan pins Mascara An~o 2000 with a bridge.

Third Match:

La Fiera (a/k/a Arturo Castro) (Mexico) (heel) vs. Atlantis (masked -
Mexico) (face); Roberto Rangel (referee); Atlantis wins 2/3 falls.

This was a world's middleweight championship match featuring a
surprisingly good challenge from La Fiera (The Fierce One). La Fiera
was seconded by Pierroth (for the third fall only) and Atlantis was
seconded by El Rayo de Jalisco.

First Fall: Atlantis pins La Fiera after delivering a reverse flying
back plancha from the top rope.

Second Fall: Atlantis loses the fall by countout after being destroyed
by a suicide plancha (over the top rope) delivered by La Fiera. One of
the better suicide planchas I've ever seen.

Third Fall: Atlantis wins the fall and the match with a torture rack
backbreaker.

Fourth Match:

Love Machine (masked - Oregon, USA) (face) seconded by Black Magic
(Norman Smiley - UK) vs. Blue Panther (masked - Mexico) (heel) without
a second. Blue Panther wins (quasi-dirty) in straight falls.

This was a mask vs. mask match that's been building for months.
Nominally Blue Panther is a heel, but the fans were really behind him
here and very much NOT for Love Machine.

A really strange angle was the use of a different referee for each
fall. Supposedly this was to eliminate the nefarious influence of the
evil Gato Montini :-) and set up a surprise ending, as Gato was to ref
the last fall. Ah ha! I thought, they're setting up a screw job ending
(knowing full well that Love Machine's mask would be the one coming
off).

Before the match begins, Love Machine takes his ring robe (a pretty
fancy red, white, and blue affair) over to Don~a Vicky and presents her
with it.

First Fall: Pancho Ramirez (referee) - After dominating the early going
(indeed, most of the match), Love Machine submits to a back breaker
(across the knee and held for submission).

Second Fall: Roberto Rangel (referee) - Love Machine dominates the
entire fall, ending it with a piledriver. Oops! Turns out the
piledriver is illegal in Mexico. Blue Panther wins by DQ! Love Machine
is amazed! But *why* was I disqualified?! The TV announcers talk about
what a brutal hold the piledriver is, how people are often injured by
it, etc., etc.

The ring doctor is very attentive to the poor, demolished Blue Panther
and as they carry him off on a stretcher, Love Machine upends it and
continues to beat on the Panther (shades of Sid). The fans don't take
too keenly to this and they boo and whistle.

Anyway, the mask comes off and - surprise! :-) - it's Art Barr! He
tells the ring announcer his name and the guy misunderstands, telling
everybody Love Machine's name is Art Art. The TV announcers are
hysterical. "Art Art! What a strange name! Art Art! Art Art?" Anyway,
the ring announcer gets the part about being from Oregon in Los Estados
Unidos right, says his age is (first) 25, then 26, and that he's been
wearing a mask for four years (sure!).

Art grabs the mic and says in pretty good Spanish (translating) "One
moment, please! My home is in the United States. But my *NEW* home is
here in Mexico! Mexico!" The fans boo and whistle anyway. Somebody in
the crowd holds up a sign (in English) that says "Blue Panther is your
father Machine!" An insult? Who knows.
