ftp.redhat.com = official, stable distributed packages, by RedHat
rawhide = cutting/bleeding edge versions of distributed packages, by RedHat
contrib = packages contributed by anyone, unsupported, little (no?) quality control
rhcn = packages by registered contributors, unsupported but checked + validated
