I am a keen amateur player, have not been playing very long. In a
recent game, I accidentally made an erroneous move (I mis-counted the
dice spots), and only after my opponent rolled her dice did I suddenly
realise my mistake. She had rolled double six so wanted her roll to
still be valid after I corrected my move. So, first question: am I
allowed to correct my move after she had rolled her dice; secondly: if
so, is her roll valid or does she have to re-roll?

Thank you for your time in answering my question.
Bob.

You were wrong to replay your move. Once the dice are picked up, indicating
the end of your move, the only way you can replay the move is if your
opponent insists on you doing so following an illegal play.

Forgot to mention that the 66 stands and is a valid roll.

No. By picking up your dice, you indicate that you have finished your
move. By rolling hers, she has accepted the way you moved it.

I guess this is answered above ...

A coin has no memory.
Backgammon, however, is played with dice.

What Michael said is correct, but I'd just add that once the opp rolls the
dice no corrections on your move are allowed. The move stands even though
it was illegal.

The only time your opp can insist that you replay the move (and it is THEIR
option, not yours... they can choose to let your play stand.), is before
they roll or offer the cube.
