Recently I stated I wanted to get below 60 kg in weight (below 130
lbs). Well, this week I achieved that with 58.75 kg (129 lbs). How did
I do it? I switched from bicycle riding to running. I cut down or shyed
away from cherry pies, cookies, soda, and chocolates and ice cream, the
worst offenders. But I believe it is the running that did the job.

But in the Xmass week of 1998 up to today I had a mild cold. It kept
me mostly awake for two nights with the sore throat and coughing.
Amazingly, running does not really interfer with having colds. I did
not run the two worst days but after over.

Two observations from this cold this year. (1) the best medication
for a cold is a hot soaking bath and then sleep or a hot shower and (2)
colds seem to divert eating desire, ie, good for diets. The purpose of
this post is to use colds for dieting. But I should explore the hot
water bath for a cold relief, whether I can improve on that. Such that,
is it possible to sweat out a cold and speed up its cycle.

Back in 1997 I was thinking of bioteching the stomach worms such that
they are harmless and keep a person trim.

But now I have a better idea. Biotech the mildest strain of cold
virus, the rhinovirus or another variety of cold virus, such that the
virus gives the mildest of mild symptoms, retaining the one symptom of
the cold, that is, the symptom of the lack of desire to eat.

In the Cold-Diet pill, you will eat live virus that will suppress
your hunger for a week or more. The symptoms of regular colds such as
sore throat, coughing are very mild.

I aim to biotech a cold virus to the point that it is easy to catch
and works upon the symptom of reducing desire to eat.

In my patent quest of biotech worms, I just picked the wrong creature
to enlist into dieting. I should have picked the cold-virus.

I know that Amgen is working on a psychology drug that helps reduce
the desire to eat. Instead of a chemical to suppress food appetite,
here I am using a bioteched cold-virus to suppress food appetite.

I suspect no-one has bioteched a cold virus species, enlisting it as
a drug or medication in helping humanity. Here I am enlisting a cold
virus, bioteching out its unpleasantness and enhancing its benificial
features (eating suppressant) for dietary means.

To enlist colds as dietary drugs is one enlistment. There may be many
other uses of cold viruses for other purposes for which they can be
bioteched to enhance that benign feature and the unpleasant features of
the cold virus toned down.

I have until 1 January 2000 to file for patent application on
bioteched cold virus as a dietary supplement.

I have found that the best treatment, perhaps only real effective
treatment of colds is a hot bath, as hot as you can stand it without
scalding, and for a long time period, then to bed to get some sleep.
Without the hot bath, you lay in bed with the coughing or sore throat
and whatever and unable to sleep.

But anyway, this year I noticed something about colds that has
escaped my attention for previous colds. In that colds are great
appetite suppresants. I have no desire to eat and I will probably lose
a kilogram. The question I raise is that can I find out what in the
cold virus suppresses appetite? And can I biotech out of the cold virus
most all of its bad symptoms and leave mostly its desirable symptom of
appetite loss?

And I have heard the old saying of "feed a headache" and "starve a
cold". I guess the feeding of a headache neutralizes the excess salt in
the blood system and relieves the pounding of the headache. But to
starve a cold seems to make no real sense to me, for already the
appetite is subdued or lost from the fact of having caught the cold.

One should note that the sense of taste is highly related to the sense of smell...and
usually during a cold you pretty much lose the sense of smell, so taste is very subdued.
The net effect of this is that you don't crave food because there is no taste when you eat
it.

So I can pretend to take an imaginary diet pill based on made-up non-science.

Well, I am happy today for I weighed myself and sure enough I am now
58 kilograms. The cold made me not want to eat for 3 days except for
citrus fruit. I do take vitamin pills, I like the Flintstones. And
today I finally ate a dinner of microwaved spaghetti. I use the
microwave on all my dinners. Get some paper cups and put into it some
thin noodles until boiling then drain and add skinless, boneless
sardines, some fresh peanuts from shells, some romano and parmesan
cheese, then spaghetti sauce that has mushrooms in it, reheat. And
presto. Today I had a bottle of Journey's Ancient Cola. Great
combinations.

Anyway, I wanted to mention also, that I have noticed that colds tend
to increase sex drives, not diminish them. At least that has been my
experience. Whether this is caused due to the fact that one can hardly

sleep and so laying there in bed, well, nothing better to do since one
cannot sleep but to play.

So, in the future if this bicovidi pill is ever mass marketed, a good

advertisement for Bicovidi is "the natural way to diet and to be

Drink to a cold because the loss of fluids to cough and sneeze. Feed a
headache to neutralize the excess salt in the body. A cold makes one
not want to eat.

Yes, but what are your preferences with regards to vitamins?

Archie, I think your cold is contagious over the Internet, because
I just lost my appetite.

There is a link between colds and loss of appetite

but,

is there a link between colds and increased sex drive? Any research on
this? Does the cold virus have some communication some link with the
sex drive system of a male? Perhaps both male and female. And if so, is
sex under a cold perhaps more prone to mutations in offspring if that
act materializes in birth?

Not quite sure of the spelling of aphrodisiac

I am all out attack on a sure method of curing dieting. To cut the
desire for food when the body, plainly, does not need it. Overweight
and obesity is one of the most common "diseases" of the United States.
I should not call it a disease, but perhaps it is in that it is
genetically coded that a person will desire more food than what is
required to sustain/live.
The direction that drug companies are taking is that of a pill that
affects the mind in such a way as to be adverse to foods. I think that
is the best route to affect the mind for it seems to be a mind game
that some parts of the mind crave food even though the body does not
need it nor is it healthy for the body. Like a nervous habit. And some
of the mind is telling the person, diet, stay away from food and cut
down on eating, yet the craving overpowers the good sense of the mind.
A drug company pill, the problems with that are these (1) the drug
company will charge big dollars for their pill, almost as much as the
excess food you would have eaten if not on the pill (2) nasty
side-effects, especially on the mind, and even make you a different
personality, or cause cancer or some other nasty side effect. Those are
two problems with a pill.
I am looking for a natural way of dieting. Of applying science that
is natural and effective.

Let us get at the root cause of overeating. It is the mind that
desires food even though the body really does not need it. What are the
components of the mind that deal with food desire and craving.
Enumerate those components and perhaps we can alter one of the
components easily such that the rest of the mind will function as
normal except that the desire and craving of food is curbed.

Recently I suggested a cold-pill, a pill that gives you a cold virus
since colds are good as eating suppressants. And I asked the question,
why are colds such good eating suppressants? The answer lies in the
fact that cold viruses interfer with the sense of taste and the sense
of smell.

Therein lies a nice avenue of exploration. Can I alter the sense of
taste so that one no longer has that overeating desire? Can I make a
fractional taste-bud-otomy, that is remove some of the connections of
taste buds and the brain such that the person no longer has food
craving nor pangs of eating. A simple solution for males in population
curbing is to cut and tie their tubes, a simple operation of a few
hours and everything else is back to normal. Can I make a similar
operation on something wherein the patient no longer has overeating
desires, and a cure-all for obesity and dieting? I believe so.

--- quoting in parts McGraw-Hill Encyc. Sci & Tech 1997 ---

Taste

In humans and most other mammals, taste buds are located on the
tongue in the fungiform, foliate, and circumvallate papillae and in
adjacent structures of the throat. Taste buds are goblet-shaped
clusters of long slender cells, and from their distal end microvilli
protrude into the taste pores that open toward the tongue surface.
... When the taste nerves are cut, taste buds disappear, but they
regenerate when the peripheral taste nerve fibers regenerate to
reinnervate the tongue epithelium...
The anterior two-thirds of the tongue is served by the lingual nerve,
the back of the tongue by the glossopharyngeal nerve, and the throat
and larynx by branches of the vagus nerve. These nerves are utilized
for touch, temperature, and pain sensitivity, as well as for taste. The
taste fibers from the anterior part of the tongue leave the lingual
nerve in a small branch, the chorda tympani, which traverses the
eardrum en route to the brainstem. When the chorda tympani is damaged,
as in the removal of the tympanum, taste sensitivity is lost on the
anterior two-thirds of the tongue on the same side because the nerve is
interrupted.
In the brain, the taste fibers from all the sensory nerves of the
mouth come together in the solitary tract and its nucleus in the
medulla oblongata, contiguous to the touch and temperature sensory
never fibers from the tongue.
... The basic taste qualities experienced by humans are sweet, salty,
sour, and bitter...
The middorsum (middle top portion) of the tongue surface is
insensitive to all tastes. Sensitivity to sweet is greatest at the tip,
to sour at the sides, and to bitter at the back; salt sensitivity is
relatively more homogenous around the edges.
...
The sweet taste is associated largely with organic compounds such as
alcohol, glycols, sugars, and sugar derivatives... Studies of the
specific blockage of sweet sensitivity by gymnemic acid... One theory
attributes the sweet taste to substances with a molecular system AH-B,
where A and B are electronegative atoms separated by a distance of 0.3
nanometer. The AH moiety is a proton donor and the B moiety a proton
acceptor. Sweet taste receptors are assumed to possess a complementary
AH-B system with which the stimulus system can interact, forming two
intersystem hydrogen bonds. More recent formulations add a third
molecular feature.
--- end quoting in parts McGraw-Hill Encyc. Sci & Tech 1997 ---

I have one full year from today, that is 22JAN2000 to file for a
patent on a procedure to reduce in part or eliminate entirely the taste
system of a human and thus the desire to over-eat. This is a diet
surgical operation which I call Taste-Bud-otomy. Specifically, a
procedure describing the surgical cutting, and re-tie of nerves as to
de-activate some of the taste-system such as the sweet taste sensories,
or all of the sweet taste sensories or all of the taste system of a
human.

I do not like the idea of cold viruses for dieting pills. I think a
better plan of attack is to suppress some eating enhancer such as the
taste buds.

And although a cold virus pill may work for diets on occasions, I
believe a better use for cold virus can be found other than dieting.
Find the 'better use' and biotech that into the cold virus and make a
pill of it.

Abandon the cold-virus pill

Archie has hit upon a brilliant plan. Before, you had to have a tragic
brane accident to be cursed with anosmia. Now, all you have to do is join
Archimedes Plutonium's Super Deluxe Diet Club, where, for only $19.99 a
month plus shipping and handling, you'll receive all the tools you'll need
to damage just the right part of your brane that controls taste and smell.
For $5 more, he'll also cut out your tongue.

I know people who are on "protein diets" and who eat nothing but eggs

diet plan is better than Archies! Wow! Two incredible scientific

I would need to research how effective the removal of taste nerves
would be on dieting. There are many cases where taste nerves have been
damaged or removed as a pain treatment. Correlate whether these people
then went on to slim weight or gaining of weight.

Perhaps the nose contains the most nerves directly related to
delight-in-eating food. Such that the tampering with any of the mouth
and tongue taste bud nerves would not solve the dieting problem.

At this juncture I would need the facts and data of those persons who
have had removed or damaged nerves relating to eating habits. If there
is one nerve that dampens the desire to eat food, and this nerve is as
easy to tie or tube fix as the male reproduction problem is to fix,
then, perhaps I have the very best cure for dieting.

This is sure a VERY interesting theory. Cut off peoples' taste
buds so that they lose weight. But why stop there? I think this
technique could be used in other areas as well! For instance,
population control. The old-timey method of "cut and tie their tubes"
in males could easily be replaced by "cutting all the pleasure
nerves in their genitals! THEN THEY WOULDN'T *WANT* TO HAVE SEX!
TA-DA!!! No more over-population problems!

And as a means of behaviour control: Cut the nerves that give
people some DEMENTED pleasure from posting to Usenet, and TA-DA!
Massively increased world productivity! Cut the pleasure nerves
that make people want to watch TV all day! TA-DA! Where will it
end?

I think that first we need to work on simpler problems such as cutting
the connection between Archie's head and his ass.

Note that I am assuming that he is not merely a disembodied brain in
a vat of clear Kool-Aid. I'm sure that at some point in his life he will be.
After all, he's a mad scientist, and if he gets killed by the frightened
villagers with their superior weaponry (torches instead of death rays)
the easiest way to bring him back for a sequel will be to just keep his
head alive in a vat in the basement of the movie studio, where that girl
who died during the filming of "Goldfinger" is buried because they didn't
get her makeup off in time, and next to that haunted apartment where they
filmed "Three Men In A Baby" which was constructed on the spot where
they gave that mass murderer the electric chair in the middle of the
Yellow Brick Road in "The Wizard Of Oz" while Erich Von Stroheim was
filming his 26,000-hour cut of "Greed" and George Lucas was going around
hypnotizing everyone in the world to make them forget that they saw
Jabba The Hutt in the first "Star Wars" before Lucas edited him out.

Also, I don't think anyone is opposed to putting Archie's brain in a vat,
right now.

Or we could put it in a bat,
in a cat, or in a rat... on a train,
in a plane, with a fox, in a box...

I've tried raw Black Pudding sandwiches, in an effort
to get more intrinsics, but I think I was protected
by "explore" mode at the time.
