Actually you don't need to go to all this trouble. Just sign up for an
account at http://fastmail.fm which provides access to an SMTP server. You
will need to use a mail client that understands SMTP AUTH to use FastMail's
SMTP server--on Windows Outlook Express works very well.

No, you need an IMAP or POP server. FastMail provides both IMAP and POP
servers--http://fastmail.fm contains detailed information comparing these
two systems and explains how to set up Outlook Express, Netscape, Eudora, or
Pine to access your email.
