Hi to those interested,

This is a short message to give you some of the ins and outs of Wimp2, the
forthcoming preemptive multitasker for RISC-OS.

Wimp2 came out of the now defunct port of Tornado II to RISC-OS (it lives
happily now on Win32). As a result, most of the code is over two years old
(sorry for taking so long to get it out!). It provides its own native 1ms
accurate interrupt facilities and provides a preemptor on a per-task basis
ie; unlike NT or 95. Hence the task still appears to the RO Wimp as a
cooperative task and Wimp2 interfaces between the task and RO.

Wimp2 was designed as a full multithreading multitasker as well. Threads are
not implemented at the present time, but it wouldn't be difficult to add
them.

Wimp2 preemptively multitasks C, assembler and Basic programs, although with
Basic programs some additional assembler or C will be needed for more complex
applications. A full example is provided with sources to illustrate how to
use the new multitasker.

Also, I will be releasing the full sources plus extensive documentation. This
is so you may add your own code or fix any bugs that may surface.

A web site is being produced to coordinate Wimp2 development. There the
latest version can be downloaded at all times. This website should be
permanent, along with support email addresses. I hope this answers any major
questions. As for exactly how it works, wait for the documentation which will
be released with the program. I'm outta space now, so I'll be off. Oh one
other thing - release is slated for the *20th* *January* *1999*. Cheers,
Niall

Ooooh, about same time as RISC OS4?! Wow, with the speed-up in RO4 and PMT we
should have a pretty good OS upgrade, now do we know if we need a Rev-T SA
upgrade still?

Why is it called tourist season if we can't shoot them?
