Descent from Knights of the Most Noble Order of the Garter

My g-grandmother, Margaret Tappan (Lowther) Thomas, was a member of several
heriditary societies, including the one for decendants of the Most Noble
Order of the Garter (unfortunately the name escapes me at the moment -- I'm
at work).

I have recently been given copies of a lot of her papers, including
documentation for this membership (no membership application - yet). Most
of the work was done for her by a professional genealogist sometime between
1920 and 1955. Some of the sources are cited, but a lot looks questionable.

I have transcribed the information and I'm interested in hearing of sources
that I can use to document and/or correct these lines (meaning though them
out!).

Coffin line through Elizabeth - daughter of Thomas de Holand. MHH.)

The ancetsry of Tristram Coffin has been questioned, but I don't know if it is
certainly false. The ancetsry of Richard Baildon/Belding is, however,
certainly false (unfortunately). The son of Sir Francis was not the immigrant,
as he died in England. Details of the proof will be published in a future
issue of The American Genealogist, I suspect some time in 1999.
