In my 18 years of traveling Baja I've never seen (or heard of) anything as
horrific as what happened in this sleepy Northern Baja town just outside the
port
city, and gateway to Todos Santos, Ensenada.

Mexico has never been a place for those with a weak stomach. You can never
feel too safe there... but that is part of the allure for me.

I remember a time when we were driving down there at night and all of the
sudden someone comes running out into the middle of the auto pista nearly
causing us to hit him (or worse... roll our vehicle). We were flying along
at 70 MPH (the speed limit) when this happened. So we barely dodged this
person. We pulled over to see what was going on, but they had disappeared
as quickly as they had appeared.

Several weeks later I read an article in the paper about these Mexicans that
would run out into the roadway causing people to wreck and then robbing the
injured occupants in the wrecked vehicle. It seems the Man upstairs wasn't
quite ready for Carson's company that night.

But what the Hell... Baja still offers some of the best surfing adventures
for those with the intestinal fortitude to handle it.

Best put one of those cattle bouncer bumpers in front of your vehicle. You
know the kind all the truckers have down there. Then you won't worry about
dents from either cattle or the local mokes trying to make a buck off the
gringos on a surf mission ;)
