Want Lists Welcome
We Buy Books

The following is the introduction to our snailmail catalogue. We
include it to give you an idea of who we are and what we do.
This posting only includes our sf/fantasy/horror books and
anthologies. E-mail a request for the complete catalogue and
we'll add you to our list. Hope we haven't broken any netiquette
rules here. We welcome any guidance, suggestions, requests -
even flames, provided they are interesting and imformative!
Thanks for your time.

"We spend more time working for our labor-saving devices
than they do working for us." - Edward Abbey.

We lead off with that particular quote as a partial explanation
for the tardiness of what was to be our Summer catalogue which
has since become our Autumn Catalogue. The sudden and unexpected
demise of our hard drive and the month-long series of computer
failures that followed are to blame for the delay. However, we
cannot lay the entire blame on technology. We must confess, we
have been distracted. Rocky is in the maddening process of
screenplay negotiations which includes rewrites, research and -
yes, yes, yes - "taking meetings." Other current technological
distractions are "Doom," "Taipei," "Dune2," and learning the
Internet!

There were other distractions as well. The Las Vegas Book Fair
and Horror Writers of America's Bram Stoker Awards were both very
enjoyable. The Donatos run a very pleasant fair and we met quite
a few friendly and helpful dealers there. Through the HWA, we
were fortunate enough to meet a delightful new writer, Robert
Devereaux, who has a frightening novel out titled "Deadweight,"
from Abyss. Dennis Etchison offered free lessons at the Craps
tables (we only lost forty dollars!). John Skipp pointed out how
wonderfully evil the town was and that he couldn't wait to get
home to report his findings to the faithful. We finally got to
meet the wonderful writer of "The Vampire Tapestry," Suzy McKee
Charnas. Suzy has a stage adaptation of the Floria Landauer
segment of the Tapestry which we attempted to produce in L.A. We
haven't given up on that one yet! Neither has Suzy! We picked
up a few interesting items in Las Vegas, some of which you'll
find in these pages. We also took a short jaunt to Seattle and
are seriously considering moving there very, very soon. If
anyone has any information about commercial-live-in rentals or
jobs in the interactive market in Seattle area, we'd appreciate a
call, a letter, or E-mail.

You will find a little more than dry description of condition in
this catalogue. We have included, in italics (note: much of this
refers to our snailmail catalogue), first lines, prefatory
dedications, review quotations, poems, and many other referential
lines from the books themselves. We intend, as the catalogue
grows, to do much more of this. We also intend to move slightly
away from the collectible, high-end books, and toward small press
books and books we genuinely like. We will always carry the
scarce and sought-after items, but we feel that there are not
enough outlets for the discovery of interesting books from such
presses as the Dalkey Archives, Coffee House Press, the gay and
lesbian presses, Ziesing, TAL, and Silver Salamander, as well as
all of the University presses.

Speaking of small press, our next step is publication! God help
us! We plan to publish Lisa Morton's story, "The Freeway," as
our first signed/limited chapbook, illustrated by the author.
Lisa wrote the screenplay for the cult film, "Meet The
Hollowheads," and her short stories will soon appear in "The
Mammoth Book Of Frankenstein Stories" and "After Hours." Look
for this first release sometime in October.

We will be at the following book fairs:
SEPTEMBER 9TH AND 10TH - California Antiquarian Book Fair -
Herbst Pavilion, Fort Mason Center, San Francisco

OCTOBER 8TH AND 9TH - Antiquarian & Used Book Fair -
Anaheim Convention Center, Room B

NOVEMBER 5TH AND 6TH
California Antiquarian Book Fair -
Burbank Airport Hilton and Hotel

Come by and see us, we would love to meet you.

KOJA, KATHE
48. Skin. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . $20.00
N.Y. 1993 Delacorte 1st VF/VF
"We never know what is enough." - William Blake.
Watch this writer! I feel there are far too many writers
of little talent in the Horror field today but Koja looks
to be someone who may be able to transcend the genre.
This book has a few flaws but the flaws are easily
compensated for by imaginative characters and situations.
It is a dark and forbidding novel that explores the excesses
of the Modern Primitive Art movement and the limits to which
an artist will go to break boundaries and find new ground.
Add to that, two very strong female protagonists, and you
have an exciting new voice.
49. Strange Angels. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . $19.95
N.Y. 1994 Delacorte 1st VF/VF
"Her hair on the pillow; an empty white cup beside the bed."
The flaws I spoke of in the description of Koja's "Skin"
have been eradicated with this powerful novel of art,
madness, and obsession. Her style has been tightened.
Each sentence elicits an emotional response. This is a
breakthrough novel. It is being presented as a non-genre
novel to reach a wider audience - and it should. Koja has
taken all the elements of modern dark fantasy and
psychological terror and skillfully blended them into a
sweetly frightening brew that should be sipped but begs to
be swallowed hot and whole.

KOONTZ, DEAN R.

Spencer Grant drove through the glistening night,
searching for the red door."
51. Dragon Tears. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . $50.00
N.Y. 1993 Putnam's 1st F/F
Inscribed "To David, Dragon Tears Can Break A Momma
Dragon's Heart! From a writer only half as strange as
his work. 4/3/93".
52. The Vision. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .$150.00
N.Y. 1977 Putnam's 1st VG/VG «" closed tear, 1" closed
tear, and 1" scrape back panel
"'Gloves of blood.'"
