Hello,
Does anyone know from where can I download TCP/IP version 1.2
drivers for SCO Unix 3.2v4.2? I need to install a network card (D-Link
DFE 530TX) but when I put:
#netconfig
appears an error: "does not support net configuration"
I think that Unix version was installed without those drivers. I
don't think I could get them from SCO web, they are just promoting
their last versions. I can't either upgrade to SCO 5.x because there
are a lot of old programs running on there.

Thanks in advanced!

You'd need a license, as well as the programs, and SCO isn't selling
those anymore either.

What make you think the "old programs" won't run on OSR 5?

Even if you could find a copy of this SW - it was hard to get
within 6 months after OSR5 came out as I recall - you would have
to find some of the very old network cards that were supported
by that software.

The DLink 530TX will not work with ODT (OpenDesktop) TCP/IP. The list
of acceptable cards is rather limited. This list is in AHS 5.2
(Advanced Harware Suppliment 5.2). The most common cards are:
Western Dismal WD8003
Western Dismal WD8013
3Scum 3C503
You also need the NET382E update.
As usual, I can't find either in the SCO web maze.

Actually, 'old programs' can't run on SCO 5.x. For example, I've got
Bbx2 (Business Basic Level 2 Rev. 2.6) running on SCO Unix 3.2v4.2
pretty well. But when I moved it to another harddisk with SCO 5.x, it
didn't run ok. It's not a matter of a lack of files because I also
tried to run the bbx2 programs from their orginal harddisk (SCO Unix
3.2v4.2 as second disk in the server PC, being SCO 5.x the first
disk). When the program is running the server always hangs out with
the error: "memory fault-core dumped".
On the SCO 5.x, I tried to make the /root/ and /u/ filesystems small
(inode numbers <64k) and in EAFS, but it doesn't work either.
Thank you anyway.

Dear Jorge,

Check out TA # 112204
It might help you out. Your bbx2 is probably for Xenix, and
ran find on 4.2.

Good luck,
Dan

Hello Dan,
What is TA # 112204? And /bin/i286emul and /bin/x286emul? Where
could I find more information about that?
Excuse my ignorance

Thanks
Jorge

Thanks very much, Dan and Ron!

Finally, I resolved the bbx2 problem for SCO Unix 5.x! The point was
legacy systems in bbx2 (especially those ones developed for XENIX) are
able to run on SCO Unix 5.0.4, but not in an higher SCO 5.x. Bbx2
could run smoothly on an SCO 5.0.5 (or higher), if and only if you
solve this problem:

TA # 112204:

"Problem: The binaries ran fine on previous versions of SCO
OpenServer, but they core dump on SCO OpenServer 5.0.5, 5.0.6. They
may contain sleep(S) system calls. If I remove the sleep(S) calls,
they seem to run fine.
The OpenServer 5.0.5, 5.0.6 versions of x286emul and i286emul respond
to signals differently than previous versions and may cause adverse
behavior such as core dumps."

"Solution: Replace the 5.0.5 or 5.0.6 versions of i286emul and
x286emul with those found in the SCO OpenServer 5.0.4 or 5.0.2
releases.
The binaries are located in:

/opt/K/SCO/Unix/5.0.5Eb/bin/

The files should have these permissions:

-rwxr-xr-x 1 root sys 23504 Oct 22 09:28
/bin/i286emul@

-rwxr-xr-x 1 root sys 39616 Oct 22 09:16
/bin/x286emul@"

Really, I did appreciate very much your help.

You keep saying you are running on OpenServer "5.x". The problem this
TA describes was corrected in rs506a, and OSR507. So the solution of
copying an old `x286emul` binary should only be needed on OSR505.

Also, there never was any such problem with `i286emul`, the author of
the TA is just confusing the two. (But that's OK, `i286emul` is almost
never used -- there was never much of a market for shrink-wrapped System
V 286 Unix binaries.)
