Letter from Karch - Starlings Event i n San Diego, May 10, 2003, 7– 11:30 PM

As a supporter and member of the Advisory Board of the
Starlings organization, I would like to invite you to the upcoming
"Champions for Starlings" fundraiser on May 10. (Please see attachment
for details). If you attended last year's inaugural event at the Hall
of Champions in Balboa Park, I hope you had as good a time as I did.
With delicious food from top San Diego restaurants, quality beer and
wine, and good music, it was an enjoyable evening for everybody in a
relaxed, fun atmosphere. Speeches and ceremony were kept to a
minimum, and the dress was volleyball style casual.
Along with meeting new people and supporting a good cause,
it was especially nice to see old friends and teammates. For me,
reminiscing with guys I played with such as Steve Timmons, Chris
Marlowe, Mike Whitmarsh, Mike Dodd, and old UCLA teammates and beach
partners was a rare and welcome opportunity.
Since the event turned into a reunion of sorts for the
volleyball community, we've decided to make it an annual get-together
for enthusiasts of the game. In that spirit, this year's event will
honor the 1964 and 1968 Men's and Women's Olympic Teams as well as a
male and female beach volleyball standout from the same era. Many of
these volleyball pioneers will be in attendance.
While this event is one of fun and camaraderie, it is also
a critical funding source for the Starlings program, which provides
the opportunity for girls from low-income families in over 30 major
cities to play the game we love.
It would also help with our planning of the event to get
your response as soon as possible.

• proceed to third light at top of hill, turn left onto N.
Torrey Pines Road
• turn left at first light onto N. Point Drive
• continue and turn right at stop sign into parking lots
