Rose Tag...or 22 roses in a haystack -with music.

First Thing: Ralph is a twisted individual. *thwap* And very creative. *G*

Ralph found me by the Dragon's Lair at about 5 pm on Saturday. He gives me 2
roses with letter tags on them and explains my task. I have 24 (so I think)
other roses each with a letter of the alphabet and a booth name on them. It is
my task to find them all scattered across the faire at different booths. And.. I
have to sing a *song* to get the rose. Appropriate to the theme, it's the
kindergarten tune, "The Alphabet Song". It's a tune I'll be mighty tired of by
the end of this tag. :P
If I collected a sufficent number of roses i'd get a "faboo prize"

Ralph walks me up into The [D]ragon inn to see me thru my first of *many*
performances, then runs off to change out of his rather sweaty danes. ( I was to
figure out soon why they were so sweaty...) Lori leaped forward to to assist in
my task, keeping track of the letters i had already found and help me
brainstorm about where to look next. Which was a good thing.. becuase if you
think about it was a very large task there are over 130 vendors at MDRF....a
house by house search would be...un-do-able..especially with only 2 hours of
faire left in the day...*gulp*

(I was told i would have time to search on sunday as well...just no guarantee
how perky the roses would be by then. :D)

With no time to waste... we hit the ground running. (ok, walking really, really
fast :P)
Some shops are gimmies... [R].E.Piland for instance... I've worked there.. *G*
he'd _have_ to leave one there! And Dan the Master [J]oyner, where Dani works
was rather an obvious choice. :D Ralph has also given me clues i can use after
i have accquired a set number of roses...one works... but not in the way
intended.. LOL (the "You and I" clue sent me into [P]urple Unicorn on the
tenuous reasoning that they had both letters in their name...) The [W]hite Hart
and [V]ictor's Coffehouse and [K] Dopitas made sense as places to check. *G*
[H]ouse of musical Traditons also seemed like a good call. I was also leaving a
trail of rather mystified vendors in my wake as well in the booths that did not
have roses.

The [B]ee folks had one. and another right next door at the booth formerly known
as [A]rcane Arts. :P i tried to narrow my search to booths with some sort of
connection to me or to ralph or to afr at large... just to help pick one shop
over another... [N]oblesse Oblige had one too. And yes [G]uilt and Lust taunted
and teased me into attemting to pop their eardrums with the song. (When i'm in
good voice i can be loud enough get the whole crowd at the Royal Mile to pay
attention) I do belive I knocked some dust off the rafters... *G* and also
[S]andscrafter. (thank you Bomber!) I checked Middleton's... was a little
surprised to *not* find one... i figure he'd gotten *all* the pubs we hang in.
LOL ( I later found out they did recive one to hold.. but something happend to
it... any one find white/red rose petals in thier oyster shooters? *G*)

"it's like an *enforced* shopping trip"

By this time it was dark outside but I (with Lori's support, sanity and
checklist) had accquired ***15** roses. ::pant pant pant::: then the
cannon went off and Lori and I headed out to the gate to find Shrew, my sister
Jennifer, Brent(a pal from jim's and mine Akido classes) and Ralph.
He asked how I was doing and he seemed impressed that we got 15 in 2 hours... He
also explained about the Middletons thing (crediting me with the missing [M]
rose) and explained the cryptic "You and I are her right now" clue as meaning
the *letters* U & I... 2 more down! only er... 8 more to be found on sunday...
LOL.

then off to Wang's for dinner...where i gave away my chaos hit when Dani put me
on the spot about it... too tired to dissemble convincingly... not that i ever
*do* dissemble convincingly *G*

::pause to run upstairs, to get vase full of roses, to read tags, to jog
memory:::

Sunday morning...we hit Tideline Salvage (purveour of wonderfully creepy
knicknacks) who wasn't actually playing the game but gave me a lovely very
*dead* rose anyway...[Y]e Olde Gamery & [C]rafty Celts... then wandered past the
dragon to get he actual tag letter from Ralph (who had left it at home saturday)
And then he and kids decide to follow us to the A[x]e throw (keepers of the
honking stupid hat) to check them for "x"...yep they do and i have to get on
stage in the honking hat and sing. [T]all Toad (keepers of the dancing skeleton)
have one too, the skelly cracks me up something awful, but i recover enough to
sing the blasted song... Ralph sublty -hah- gestures up the hill at the chapel
towards the [L]andsknechts! ahh.. L is for Landsknecht! Only f, o and e to go!!!

So i walk over the hill to the Dragon to lean on a tree with lori to start
pondering the remaining letters and compare them with the vendor listings to see
what to try next. as i stand there, ralph produces the last clue...a sheet of
paper with letters scattered across it and 2 or 3 careful tick marks in the
corners... funny that looks just the right size.... *boing*.. to fit over the
map in the program! Still only gives me the immediate vicinty tho.. and Ralph
makes me "call the shots" before i go. (this is where 12 years on this site
comes in handy) I guess [F]antasy guilde , [E]nchantaned Cottage and the [O]ther
Cheek facepainters. Huzzah! im correct!! Ralph asks me to hang out for a moment
while he gets the kids something to drink before we head off again... then
returns to ask how many roses i have now... "21" ( 24 with "credits") i tell
him.

(in retrospect, I really should have noticed the number of rogues loitering in
the vicinity- the focus requird by the "death march treasure hunt" *G* had
dulled my usually sharp radar...)

"21... is enough for many things", He grins at me...and suddenly is leading me
into a circle. Bong!
i wasnt even expecting that... I've been hit before and honestly felt that I'd
had my "turn", so to speak, so this was a beeeeeeg surprise to me. *thud*

I won't even try to list the partcipating rogues.. if you were there...you know
it... and you are all very evil and cute... LOL*EG* I'll just list a couple of
high points. Let it be known though, they were *all* in full "charm" mode, and
I *was* charmed... *G* I admit it, I blush like a neon sign. It's those
scots/irish/french ancestors of mine's fault. (my story, i'm sticking to it.)
Not blinded, mind you, (:P) but charmed. *G* and for heavens sake... they each
had 3 roses!!! *goggle* Especially since there were at least 2 of them there
from the first time I was ever hit

..you always remember your first time ;)

Keith..you are an evil sweetie... John.. you're a silver *EG* tounged devil
..and Gareth... you are just plain *wrong* and always have been *EG*... (i
belive my remark on his approach was.."oh, dear, god"...) I hope you don't mind
that I used my teeth... *WEG*.. but that rose presentation required a little
"wenchback" from me. :P And Ralph...the last guy who got away with that I asked
for "toast, lettuce tomato and mayo" for next time. :P *thwap* (I still can't
belive i Squeaked) All too soon it's over..and I look like an explosion in a
florist shop... especially if you count the ones i already have... *goggle
again*

And they are *all* white with red edges..... *whapRalph*

When I come out of the fog a little later...
We, as in Lori, Ralph, kids and a gaggle of spectators, *G* take off to get the
last 3 roses... at
[F]antasy Guilde leather masks & [E]nchanted Cottage things go smoothly. I
leave headed for the final destination singing "One more rose me johnnies, one
more rose..." but alas the nice lady at the [O]ther Cheek facepainters left it
at home this morning...so the hunt is done! Huz-zah!
when we return to the dagon Ralph gifts me with anotther gift.. a tiny bottle
of sweet rose liqueur.

:::pant pant:: can i have some water now?? and a place to sit? *G* and a nap?
::pant::

the hard and fiendish part about this Tag wasn't the singing or being silly in
public...i sing in front of people all the time( <plug>twice a month at the
shanty sings...ya'll come</plug>) and i've done improv worshops and street cast
before...so being goofy in public wasnt the hard part either.

though if i *never* hear that song again... *G*

It was the mental challenge of figuring the puzzle pieces out. All of them. And
the physical challenge of tearing all over the site! (my feet still hate me) It
the sheer SCALE of the thing!
24 booth's... 48 roses... It was just so *big*!

(After all, isn't that what every man likes to hear? *GD&RVVVVF*)

wheeee but i did it...
(with help and hints...otherwise i'd be there right now..still doggedly going
from booth to booth...)

Thank you Lori! You and your note pad and calm reason, when i felt kind of
overwhelmed... *G*

So honor is satisfied as far as the *general* reputation of the MDRF Rogues ,
I've finally been smacked back... you boys better thank him..he worked *hard* to
put this together... the evil bastard... <<<hugs ralph>>>

But what do i do about Gareth? *sigh*

Keltique the really really tired....

Keltik, darling, when I saw the magnitude of what you were being asked to do, I
realized you would need help. And, I thought, it would be fun--and so it was.
(Having never been on either the giving or recieving end of a rose tag it was
good to see how one could work and NO, that was not a challenge, thank you.
::grin::) It was a pleasure to hear you sing since I don't make it to the Shanty
sings--I forget what a lovely voice you have.

If you have a chance, people, ask her to sing something for you. Just don't ask
for the alphabet song...

Oh Lori! It is MY love for YOU that is wider than the heavens, where the furthest star cannot outdistance the longing in my heart. Every instant we are
apart seems an eternity of galaxies travelling through infinity, stars growing dim as they reach the edge of awareness ... and yet still my love for you burns

If only the Rogues could match you, Sunni. There would be no complaints at MDRF.
::Grin::

While your love for me may reach the heavens and beyond, my love for you delves
deep into my body, my cells, my molecular makeup. If they were to examine my DNA
they would find in the proteins that make me who I am that my love for you is
engraved deeply into my very being. It can never be erased or changed without
changing to the very core of who I am. And I will never allow that to happen.

Ah, Lori ... tho' your love may be engraved within your cells, I tell you that my love for YOU is etched upon my very soul. If my soul were like to the ocean,
my love for you would be all-pervading, covering all surfaces like the oil from the Exxon Valdese ... and yet it goes so much deeper than the surface,
throughout the sea waters, all the way down to where the buggy-eyed flourescent fish bump into each other, with their oddly-shaped foreheads bulging
with prosthetic lanterns to light their way around the caves and caverns of my endless devotion to YOU.

Even as you are beset upon with earthquakes & volcanos (seems kinda disruptive to your personal life ;), my love for you is the atmosphere itself,
surrounding and filling the cracks in your heart. And when we are apart, hurricanes and gale-force winds batter at my emotions, cleaving my soul in twain,
raining upon my parade and causing the clown-filled VW's of my heart to hydroplane. And as they careen wildly through the avenues, pedestrians and
lookers-on scattering like so many autumn leaves, they leave a wide swathe of emptiness -- which, when I am again in your presence, fills with the calm
of spring zephyrs and birdsong.

I intented to write a paean to your wonderfulness, but after that last round, I am verbally exhausted ... I think it's ok if we call a love-truce at this point,

I'm trying to get out to that coast sometime--having never been there ever ever

horrified looks from the Shrew, and I can see the dollars running away in his

Sunni, either your tension is too tight, or you have the bobbin threaded in
backwards, or the thread is too old and has rotted.

If it snaps while you pull on it (spool in one hand, thread in the other) then
it is rotten. If it snaps in the machine, it's one of the other two, depending
on which one snaps.

Good Sir, I think that if we were to get into it again, we would create a new

Indeed we would! A broken thread is a thread of an entirely different color than a LoveFest thread. While my sewing machine is quite adept at producing
broken threads, never yet has it given me a LoveFest thread. Only Lori can incorporate both, and this is a testament to the wonderment that is she -- and
it is but one of the reasons that I do love her so!

We WILL! I'm going to drag those NY'ers outta bed EARLY tomorrow, so we can be sure to make gate ... and I won't rely on my (cleverly broken) Lost
Guild compass to get us to faire. ;) And since GarGar isn't driving, we won't have to go through DC to get there. :Ş

And -- just 'cause this is STILL the "broken thread" thread ... my thread still keeps breaking, and the wonderful Wrong fabric keeps fraying, and at this
point my bodice will run out of shoulders before it's finished ...

Black thread now, but the thread that will be breaking in the near future will be yellow. It doesn't seem to be color-dependent.

That's 'cause a very good friend of mine, who you will meet this weekend, once told me I had no sense of humor and I'm too little to hug properly without

Oh - I didn't really think you were being literal ... the definition of foment that applies in this instance would be:

To nurse to life or activity; to cherish and promote by
excitements; to encourage; to abet; to instigate
