I downloaded a Backgammon game from the Winfun forum that appears
to cheat (many doubles when bearing off & unlikely hits). does
anybody here know this program?

Yes, I know the program. I wrote it. And no, it does not cheat. It
gets the rolls from MS random number generator and scales it to 1-36
(where 1 is 1:1 and 36 is 6:6). You can use the Options menu to roll
your own dice (and type the values in).

Yes, it is mediocre player, but no, it does not cheat. It uses MS
random number generator to get the rolls. If you are not happy with
those numbers, use the Options menu to roll you own dice. Besides,
considering the price you paid for this program you should not complain
about its level of play .... <gr> :-)

Thanks for the clarification; I'm glad to know I was wrong on this one.
Consecutive double 6's two days in a row was pretty depressing....

I recall making notes after someone claimed that it cheated, and found
that it was indeed honest - maybe people who play against a computer
program that's not so good are quicker to accuse it of cheating when
it gets lucky more out of wounded pride! I watched mloner have an
exceptionally lucky streak recently, and not a whisper of suspicion... 8-)

Incidentally, my record is *7* consecutive double 6s, thrown against
me by Sun's 'gammontool' (ah, the great days of Sunview!) to escape
4 men primed on my 1 point the minute I cleared my bar *and* win the
race comfortably from about 120 pips behind. 8-( 8-( 8-(

and you still insist that these monsters don't cheat ?
