The Buckeyes had their chances, but let them slip away. OSU is talented, but
very young. Once again, experience matters. OSU had leads in G1 and G2, but
let them slip away. In G3, UCLA led all the way and OSU simply couldn't catch
up. In all of their matches, the Buckeyes were out-blocked and made more
hitting errors than they would have liked. OSU also relied too heavily on its
star player, Stacey Gordon. UCLA's offense was much more balanced. It didn't
help that OSU had played a five game match against Colorado on Saturday
afternoon while UCLA had the day off.

G1: OSU led by as many as three points early on, but squandered that lead. OSU
took its first time out at 23-24, but it was to no avail. Their second and
final time out came a moment later with the score at 23-26. OSU managed to
score only two more points before Cira Wright put down game point for UCLA.
UCLA was led by Fendrick 6K plus Wright & Murphy with 3K each. OSU was led by
Gordon 7K and Draeger 4K. UCLA outhit OSU .310 to .220, out-dug them 18-16.

G2: OSU again had an early lead in G2 only to see it slip away. OSU led by as
many as 4 points (at 8-4 and 12-8 and 13-9). However, UCLA was able to tie the
score at 16-16. OSU continued to fight for the lead until they gave up the lead
for good at 23-21. Four UCLA points later and the Bruins took the lead for
good. An Eckmier kill gave the Bruins G2 on their second attempt. UCLA outhit
OSU .464 to .216. UCLA was led by Eckmier 1B/4K and Murphy 3K. OSU was led by
Gordon 9K and Draeger 3K.

G3: All UCLA. The Bruins led in this game from the start and never looked back.
UCLA took the match on their second attempt with a kill by Barba. UCLA outhit
OSU .410 to .224 in G3. UCLA was led by Fendrick 1B/5K and Murphy 3B/3K. OSU
was led by Gordon 2B/6K.

Kahumoku improved over her performance on Friday night and Gustin played
substantially more tonight. As a result, Hawai‘i posed a triple threat against
the Buffaloes. Kahumoku, Willoughby and Gustin all made it into double digit
kills. Meanwhile, only Gerlach made it into double figures for Colorado.
Boogard made another solid showing at the net with 3B/3K. Overall, UH outhit CU
.319 to .141, out-aced them 6-1, out-blocked them 10-3 and out-dug them 56-51.

G1: UH jumps out to a 5-0 lead on Willoughby's jump serve including 2 aces.
This one was never close. At 6-2, UH scored 4 points on Tano's serve to make it
10-2. The closest that Colorado could get after that was 5 points at 15-10.
Duggins served game point and Colorado hit it out. UH outhit CU .333 to .146,
out-dug them 18-15 and out-aced them 2-0. UH was led by Kahumoku 5K, Duggins 4K
and Willoughby 1B/3K/2aces. CU was led by Carr 5K and Hays 3K.

G2: Gustin entered the match for Lundqvist in the middle, Ilustre replaced
Villaroman at libero and Boogard came in on the right side for Tano. This game
was closer at first, but UH was always in the lead. At 5-4, UH started to widen
the gap with 2 natural points including an ace on Gustin's serve. The gap
widened to 10 points at 20-10. CU briefly closed the gap to 6 points at 22-14,
but UH increased its lead to 10 again at 28-18. CU survived 2 game points
before Willoughby put down game point on UH's third attempt. UH was led by
Kahumoku 8K and Willoughy 1B/4K/1 ace. CU was led by Gerlach 8K.

G3: Again, this one was close in the beginning, but UH eventually pulled away at
13-12 with a side out and 2 natural points on Melody Eckmier's serve to make it
16-12. CU closed to 16-13, but was never closer than 4 points after that.
Gustin put down match point on UH's second attempt. UH was led by Gustin
2B/7K/1 ace and Willoughby 1B/5K/1 ace. CU was led by Taskey 5K and Gerlach 4K.
