I saw a TV ad for the movie "The Parent Trap" (1998) the other week,
it contained two fencing girls. I missed the film itself, but did a
search. Synopsis: Two twins, separated when only months old, are sent
to the same summer camp by chance. The fence a foil bout, and when
taking off their masks, discover the similarity. They later get proof
of their identical twinhood. They then set out to reunite their
parents. Actors: Twins - Lindsay Lohan, Father - Dennis Quaid, Mother
- Natasha Richardson. (Everything taken from memory since I did the
search)
Has anyone here seen the movie? If so, how was the fencing?
Have a nice time!

I took my daughter to see it when it first came out. The movie's
pretty good, but the fencing is silly.

The fencing is short, basic, not too exciting. It's a plot device, to allow
the girls to compete and develop a rivalry before they see each other's
faces. But it's a fun movie. She's a good child actress. I found her
double roles much more believable than a couple of the adult roles in the
film.
I still prefer the original with Hayley Mills, even though it had no
fencing.

I saw the movie many times, as my sister is a Disney Channel fanatic.
Unfortunately, at the times when i was watching it several times a week, I
wasn't yet a fencer. It would be very interesting to go back and watch it now
though, knowing what to look for. From the purely theatrical point of view, it
was a great action sequence, as great as you can get in a children's movie,
anyway.
I agree! Classics never die.
The past four years I've taught fencing at a summer camp -- just basic
foil stuff -- to kids about 7-12. I've completely lost count of how many
kids come up to me and either say "I saw fencing in The Parent Trap!" or
(on their first day) "Wow, this is just like I saw in The Parent Trap!"
I may have to actually watch it, one of these days... :)

It seems to me that my attraction to fencing, and that the liking of
many others for fencing, is largely based on the fact that they have
been expert in it ...in the past.
