Dear friends,
I am experiencing this problem whenever I try to Install anything that
requires windows installer. It gives me the following Error message:

"The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if you
are running Windows in safe mode, or if the Windows installer is not
correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance."

I tried copying the installer executable and dlls from another computer
where Installer works to this computer, but still it didnt work.

When I try to start the service in the Services it gives me the following
error:
"Could not start the window installer service on local computer
Error : 1069: the service did not start due to logon failure"

Can anyone figure why this is happening. I tried installing the latest
Windows Installer from the Microsoft website, but that didn't work either.

Thanks,
Khalid

Hi

Try the methods one by one outlined here to fix Windows Installer problems in
Win2k and NT4:

PRB: Incorrect Default DCOM Settings Cause Windows Installer to Stop Responding

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;319624

After running through the four points above, also try this from Start/Run:

msiexec /regserver

If that doesn't solve your problem, and you have MSI 2.0 installed, downgrade
to version 1.1 (somewhat messy), and then install MSI 2.0 again:

Downgrading Windows Installer (Win2k):

By any chance, have you recently applied SP4? Try
uninstalling it to see if you resolve the issue. I had the
same error, removed SP4 and was able to use MSI installs.
HOWEVER, when I re-apply SP4 again, the problem returned.

I am looking for a fix with SP4 installed already, looking
into removing and re-installing the whole service, perhaps
a downgrade/upgrade process.

If anyone has ideas, please lend a hand.

Hello Friends,

I got the same error like you that when I try to open
the PDF file from the web site and the Window Installer
window popup with the message "prepare to install".
Then we I try to reinstall the Windows Installer it
said it 'This service is already exist' and it said

"1601 The Windows Installer service could not be accessed.

This can occur if you are running Windows in safe mode, or

if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed.

Contact your support personnel for assistance. "

Any idea? Thanks for your help.
