AFAIK M$ doesn't understand the IPP protocol cups uses without
additional sw. Easiest should be installing samba and share the
printer with it.

Remove +SIGNS and www. if you expect an answer, sorry for
inconvenience, but I get tons of SPAM
Windows doesn't do CUPS. Install Samba on the machine running CUPS and
provide an smb share for it (Windows does do SMB... well, kinda, Samba has
bug for bug compatability for Windows :D)

Microsoft announces IE is dead (so upgrade):

Not sure why everyone recommends samba. Win2k can probably be set up with
a TCP port (like NT/XP can) as a client for standard Unix LPR printing.
Although cups natively does IPP instead of LPD, its docs mention:
11. LPD Client Support
By popular request, CUPS 1.1 supports LPD-based clients using a new
mini-daemon that handles LPD requests and passes them on to the main
server.
The TCP port is probably set up under local printers other instead of
network printers (at least that is how XP did it). Once you set up the
TCP port, you set up the printer driver to print to that TCP port (like
another LPT port).

Thanks for the reference. Yes Win2K has native LPD support. I do run
Samba and have used SMB for printing, but if there's a direct path to
the printing system, I'd rather go there. BTW, how do I check cups version?
But I still don't understand all the big M$ talks about IPP, yet no
product? Besides, anyone knows what "Use URL" in its "Add Printer"
wizard means? It really doesn't look like LPD. Google indicates some
"product release" for IPP support in Win98 and "beta release" in Win2k
by 1999. Couldn't find further reference. (Maybe it's time to learn how
to search M$ site:-)
