Perhaps it will be prudent to consider a few factors....
1. Is your phone line >15 yrs old?
2. Do you experience any sounds (like raining) when you use the phone?
If anyone above is yes...then it is the line problem...else.....you can
try testing your modem on another person's PC with Streamyx subscription.
Sometimes it is easier to test what we have than to say it's TMNet's
fault...i.e. once an acquaintance of mine had your problem....the TMNet
people came and went a few times and found nothing wrong (that showed
how stupid they were).
It turned out that his modem was faulty perhaps damaged by lightning or
surge.
BTW do you have any sort of protection for your modem? Pays to have one.
Eric
i dun think the factors you gave would be the reason of frequent
disconnection FD
for most of the people that experience it...
1. my phone line is 15y old
2. i have sounds most of the time.. the splitter enjoying holiday always
but my streamyx able to connected and up to a speed that
i still cannot accept as a good broadband - 200kbps
i dont have FD problem for months..
and suddenly it arise, so i called up helpdesk.
the most terrible time is i have to reconnect every minute
then the next day, the terrokom find people to fix the problem for me
and it is fixed at their side...
according to them, there are more than 5 people having the same problem
using the same exchange
regards,
brian
ps: although the technicians spent a whole morning testing my pc for problem
but it ain't my problem!

1) I tried various version of WinPoEt and RASPPoE and experienced the
same probelm.
2) During the first week that I had Streamyx I got a constant
60-120KILOBYTES/
sec = 480-960kbps during download with NO DROPPED line. After they
(TMnet) did some so called 'upgrade' work I experienced NO service for
one
whole day and after that got only 200-300 kbps up till now with frequent
disconnection. I think they accidentally hook me up for the
enterprise/corporate
package earlier and realised their mistake later.
3) I think by disconnecting some user, it is just a dirty trick used by
TMnet to
conserve bandwidth. This also applies to they passing the buck and
saying
that it is a software issue on the user/customer side.

You are right that mostly it is TMNet's fault, however sometimes it can
be due to the problems with the telephone line...e.g. a friend of mine
in Cheras flats complains frequently that his dial-up sucks..
After changing the telephone line, it worked well.
All I suggested was, be sure that our own side is clear before pointing
the finger (although in most cases they deserve it!).
As an ex-MS Exchange administrator, you have no idea how many times a
day I get complaints from people saying that there was a problem with my
servers because they couldn't send/receive mails.
Mostly, it is due to:
1. Size of mail too big (most people can't be bothered to zip their
attachments).
2. They mispelt the receipient's mail address
3. They tried to send some prohibited files (e.f. EXE, VBS, JS etc)
So, I am always careful b4 I start to blame others.

guna, are you using win98 second edition. if you are, there is a
networking bug which is responsible for the frequent disconnection.
the bug is exclusive to the second edition of win 98 and not found in
any other microsoft OS.
here's the link to the patch and explanation of the problem at
microsoft website..
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;en-us;q243199
i installed the patch and called the helpline personnel and asked them
to reset my connection. i rebooted one last time two days ago and have
stayed connected ever since... 50 hours and counting...

I STILL INSISTS that it is TMnet fault. The problem occurs to some people

and seems to me it depends on your location, the exchange you are connected
to, IP address
assigned to you, time off day. All of which is not our fault.
And to Beta, congrats to you, but the problem still persists for some of us,
or am I the only

the solution. something about setting the modem hardware to router
mode eh? Please do give me the details!! thanxxxx, man!

Listed below is the way to configure Aztech DSL900EB2 or E ADSL bridge
Modem
to a hub.
Configure ADSL Modem
1. Download "DSL Commander" (DSLCOMM.EXE) software from Aztech website.
www.aztech.com.sg
2. Using DSL commander to login to the modem. The Password is "password"
or
"stm"
3. Go to Line Configuration Tab Select RFC2516 (PPPoE)
4. Set VPI to 0 and VCI to 35
5. Tick "Enable NAT"
6.In LAN IP Configuration, enter 192.168.1.1 Subnet 255.255.255.0
7. Enter your Streamyx username (yourStreamyxID@streamyx)
8. Enter your streamyx password (provided by Streamyx)
9. Tick DNS Server Discovery
10. Click on the DHCP tab
11. Network ID = 192.168.1.0 Subnet Mask = 255.255.255.0
12. IP Range Start = 192..168.1.2 IP Range End = 192.168.1.20
13. Getway IP = 192.168.1.1
14. Tick Enable DNS Relay
15. Primary = 202.188.0.133
16. Secondary = 202.188.1.5 and Click Apply to finish.
To configure your TCP/IP - Ethernet Card
1. DNS Configuration Tab - Enable DNS
2. Host = streamyx Domain = tmnet
3. DNS Server search order: add = 202.188.0.133 and 202.188.1.5
4. Gateway Tab add 192.168.1.1
5. IP Address = Obtain an IP Address Automatically

i finally had enough of the dropped connection and decided to
take the plunge and make the adjustment to the modem according to the
instruction.! guess what? i messed it up big time. now, i can no
longer connect to the net using the modem. the problem start when the
system freeze right after i entered in all the numbers as stated in
the instructions and clicked apply. i hang to reboot my pc.
after i rebooted it, i can still connect to the net as it seems the
changes i have made had been recognised.
i proceeded to the make the changes again... typing in exactly
everything again... but i didn;t that nothing have changed..
and when i load up the router commmander again, it seems
the original settings are still there and my modem is marked as
TRANSPARENT BRIDGE on the Line Configuration. We are supposed to make
it RFC2516 (PPPoE)
then i noticed there is an APPLY button in the Line Configuration
screen. although the instruction didn;t mention it, i figured it was
mistakenly omitted, i pressed on that apply button.

6. Click OK to finish.
AFTER pressing on the button, the software started saving the changes
but stopped suddenly with this error message
"" The link to DSL Router Commander will be lost as you have changed
the subnet of your router's LAN IP. To continue, you need to change
your system's IP to be the same subnet as the router, and run DSL
Router Commander again""
after i clicked OK on the error message... the DSL Router Commander
quit on its own. from then on, i can't connect to internet on ADSL.
( i am writing this on dial-up)
whenever i try to connect using winpoet, i got the error message 629.
The port is cancelled by the remote server.
i have already called the helpline and filed a report but i hoped to
fixed this before the technician come. does anyone know what is the
problem and what went wrong?? ( i didn't see any postings here on such
a problem, so i figure it is unique to me. what a pity)
this is an addition to my earlier post. i have tried resetting the
modem as per the instruction (mentioned in the setup booklet as well),
thinking the modem could be reset to the being a TRANSPARENT BRIDGE,
which is the status of the modem when i first login using DSL Router
Commander. No luck. all setting remain the same at the DHCP tab and at
the Line Configuration screen, the chosen protocol is now RFC 1483
Bridged with all the other field blank. yes, apparently, this is THE
ORIGINAL FACTORY SETTING, not TRANSPARENT BRIDGE, as i got that
setting whenever i reset the modem.
does anyone know what is the whole setting for the transparent bridge?
since the original factory setting is not transparent bridge, i figure
adjusting the modem back to that setting may fix my problem.. can any
fellow TMnet streamyx users who have dsl router commander but have not
yet used it to change the modem to a hub please post your setting
here?
thanx!!!

I FIXED IT. I managed to revert to the original transparent bridge

anyway, i am still interested in knowing what exactly went wrong with
my attempt to configure the modem into hub. any help and advice is
deeply appreciated.
