Hi,

i installed Linux (SuSE-Sparc 7.3, XFree86 4.1) on my Sun Blade 100
(Ultra-Sparc IIe 500Mhz CPU, PGX-64 graphic card, in fact it is an
onboard ATI Rage XL with 8MB).
The problem is i can't get X to run properly on it (using the ati
driver). Giving the correct config for my monitor, my monitor just
displays 'out of sync'. There are no errors when starting X.

After reading the hardware specs from Sun, i added the following line to
the XF86Config file in the Driver section:
Option "ReferenceClock" "29.499Mhz"
(previously X used 28.636Mhz as reference clock)
Now the screen flashes up for a fraction of second, and then gets dark
again for a few seconds. Sometime X appears for up to something like a
second, but usually much shorter.

My monitor is a 18'' TFT, which does 1280x1024@75Hz with 80kHz hsync.
This monitor runs fine with XFree86 4.1 on my pc, as well as on the
_same_ Sun Blade 100 running Solaris (always at 1280x1024@75Hz/80kHz).

Do i have to play on the modelines (if yes, how ?) or is there a problem
with the driver on non-x86 hardware ? Other people managed to get
Xfree86 to run on their Blade 100, but several are experiencing picture
quality problems. Perhaps my monitor is more sensitive if the sync is
not right ?

thanks for any help

Martin
