My one-line post simply pointing out that Yiffnet IRC was back up again
generated 43 responses, some containing insults and flames. Ah well,
indeed.

Do not feel bad. You cannot help that you are a furry sinner. We are all
sinners.

I am here to administer sidewalk counseling to the furries. It's "usenet
counseling" -- bettybowers.com told me this is a dynamic new way to use
modern technology to spread the word of the Baby Jesus. Satan is in so much
of the internet! But I have many resources that soon I will put up on my
website http://www.subatomiclaundry.com/fury4jesus/index.html. Did you know
that there is a Christian Wives of Addicts support page. And a page that is
helping Jon Ashcroft ban porno on the Internet (porn-free.org). I know that
furry porn is a very serious addiction that makes Baby Jesus sad. Furry
artists are worse than CRACK dealers!

I pray for you, Robert Cassel. May Baby Jesus find his way into your
sinfull, furry heart. Amen.

Why do you keep calling Jesus a baby, if you read the Bible. Jesus grew from a
Baby to Adulthood like other people would.

Shush, you! F4J is on a roll, bringing the "faith" to the "unbelievers". I
imagine more than a few readers would have that dear look of incredulity on
their faces if we could look past the monitor.

Heh, I really started laughing at that one, then I scrolled

As someone who lives only a few minutes drive from the epicenter, I
can vouch that it *is* accurately placed.

You know it's going to be bad when three of the winners of the "Six
Shallow Graves" poll are almost within sight of your home... And you
used to know all three from your early days in fandom...

Guns were listed right above Arizona, which is somehow appropriate.

Worse, I've seen it in person: The sot in question second-guessing a museum

That and I actually HAVE read 'Murder at the War'...

Novel? I picked that up from talking to SCA participants. It's no
secret that the biggest concern of many divisions of the Society for
Creative Anachronism is to discourage creative anachronisms.

The SCA, like furry fandom, has many subgroups. They have the
radicals, the lifestylers, the burned crowd and the thought/clothing
police. They also have a large gay household :)

What they dont have is a bunch of loudmouths giving interviews to
reporters telling them how the Pennsic War is just a big gathering of
people fucking and the SCA is a sex club. Of course, if there were
such individuals in the SCA, they would likely have the tar beaten out
of them with a good stout length of rattan.

But.... isn't it? That's what I've heard. Okay, well, not on national
TV, but from talking with folks at SF cons. "Festival Sex" and all that.
Of course, they've got big burly-men with "fairsome weepons" to keep the
Gurley-men at bay.

From what I recall from past conversations with SCA members, the
concern was that there were a number of sub-groups within the SCA who took
the term 'creative' far too literally. The SCA was intended as a romantic
recreation of life from earlier time periods, not as a springboard for
fictional medieval settings. That is, they were trying to recreate life
from Shakespearean times, or from early medieval Europe -- not Middle
Earth, Aquilona, Barsoom or Xanadu!

That's true -- which is why I said it was intended as a -romantic-
recreation of medieval life.
