this newsgroup.
I believe it is necessary and appropriate to make it available as a
follow-up to the posting mentioned in my letter.

newsgroup reader. ]
Dear Sirs and Madams,
I am writing to you regarding my posting from June 29, 2001 on the
newsgroup soc.culture.romanian. I would like to apologize for the
comments that I made about the Roma population of Romania. I was wrong
and I regret it deeply.
Unfortunately, in Romania, where the crime rate is quite high, the
newspapers tend to present mainly crimes commited by Romas. Since I came
to Canada six years ago, my main source of information about my country
of birth has consisted of web newspapers. Consequently, my image of the
present situation there has been deeply influenced by the biased
contents of the materials that I have read.
The Romanian politicians have also played a significant role in shaping
my image of the Romanian Romas. It is well known that they tend to blame
the hardships of life in Romania on ethnic minorities, particularly on
Romas.
However, all this does not in any way excuse the extreme statements that
I made in my posting. I would like to express my heartfelt regrets for
the harm that they caused. I wrote that message in a state of
particularly deep distress, which made my judgement fail to work
acceptably.
As I do realize that my apology might be no match for my deed, I am
willing to try and offer you a redress by any means that you will find
appropriate.

I am sure that Mr Laza freely decided to do what was in his own best
interest.
