15,000 Danish crowns added prize money
In anticipation of a bigger turnout than last year (when we had 62 in
the open flight and 131 overall, including 5 players from Germany, 2
from Sweden and 1 from the Netherlands), we've reserved a larger and
more comfortable space at the same site this year.

Monrad -- A Monrad format pairs winners vs. winners and losers vs.
losers. The better known name "Swiss" system is a variation of this
format, but the Swiss system has rather specific rules for pairings.
Most "Swiss" system backgammon tournaments are actually -- are often
called -- modified Swiss systems. In any case, in Denmark we call such
tournaments monrad and we here all know what we mean.
qualifier -- Results from a number of monrad rounds determine
placement in the next phase, usually a cup format (either knockout or
with consolation).
At the 3rd Humlebaek Open, the Intermediate flight will have 6 monrad
rounds on Saturday. Winners of 4 or more rounds go to the final on
Sunday. Others go to consolation. The final is progressive, meaning
that losers will also "devance" to consolation.
