Typical confused Scientologist. Asking stupid questions with
no answers. Really, if you find yourself asking such questions,
you are shaky ground mentally.

Bev,

A study reported on in the New York Times on December 15, 1999
indicated that federal investigators have identified serious flaws in
the FDA's system of tracking adverse drug reactions, a system which is
voluntary and they want the system to be switched over to a mandatory
reporting system in which hospitals will be required to notify the
government whenever patients are injured by medication. The problem,
according to the Inspector General of the Department of Health and
Human Services is that the FDA has "no quality control system" to
detect dangerours side effects from prescription drugs.

A study last year estimated that more than 100,000 people each year die
in American hospitals from adverse drug reactions and that many of
those deaths could have been prevented. There is a huge descrepancy in
this incredibly high figure and the number of voluntary adverse
reaction reports which are turned in. (Do you smell cover up?)

I would say the killing of 100,000 people a year is pretty serious. Not
all those are being treated by the psychs obviously, but the problem
exists there because psych drugs are some of the biggest sellers and
are pushed heavily by the psych industry. Thus, we see the wackos on
psych drugs or recently on them and suffering from side effects going
into schools and blowing people away.

It is a serious problem don't you think? Shouldn't you do something
about it? Maybe you should join CCHR's efforts to stop this sort of
abuse.

Thanks for mentioning this, "Mark". Is there any system tracking
"adverse reactions to scientology"? Where are these recorded?

Well, that shouldn't be a problem, should it? I mean... you guys keep
telling us how the number of doctors who choose to become psychiatrists is
in a major decline. If that's so, there shouldn't be anything to worry
about.

> Thus, we see the wackos on
> psych drugs or recently on them and suffering from side effects going

Psych drugs have only been widely used for maybe 30 years. FBI studies,
however, tell us that in the United States violent crime has in fact rather
steadily *decreased* over the past 30 years. Not only that, studies also
confirm that the great majority of violent crime is committed by people who
have never been diagnosed or treated for a mental illness. How do you
account for that, Mark?

The medical specialty of psychiatry itself has only been around for less
than 200 years and yet history tells us that people have been going on
murderous rampages since before people began even writing these things down.
What caused people to do these terrible things-- *before* psychiatry or
psych drugs were even around, Mark?

> It is a serious problem don't you think?

I find an even more serious problem to be the alarmingly widespread dearth
of critical thinking skills among people--people like yourself,
Mark_Regent--who seem otherwise to have received some sort of formal
education. Is it that there are truly more stupid people in the world than
there once were? Or is it, rather, that the Internet allows us to come into
contact with more fools than we might otherwise have the opportunity to
meet?

> Shouldn't you do something
> about it? Maybe you should join CCHR's efforts to stop this sort of

Of course there are abuses within the field of psychiatry-- just as there
are abuses within the fields of plumbing, car sales, and religious vocation
(including, need I mention, vocations involving the application of an
"applied religious philosophy"). I find, however, that law enforcement
agencies and the oversight committees of these professions generally do a
good job of containing these abuses. I also find that CCHR is less concerned
with simply identifying actual abuses within the field of psychiatry than it
is with wiping out the profession entirely. In that regard, CCHR is not only
short-sighted and ill-informed but also dishonest about its true goal.

Don't you believe it Rebecca. Hubbard states that psychs have always
been around. They are the whole track murderers behind all of
history's murderous rampages. Just ask a $cientologist. Oh, hell, wait
til the movie comes out.

Have you ever met an informally educated person? I mean everybody

received some sort of formal education.

> Is it that there are truly more stupid people in the world than
>there once were? Or is it, rather, that the Internet allows us to come into
>contact with more fools than we might otherwise have the opportunity to

Actually, in the observation of more or less fools or foolishness, the
cause, if anything other than God Himself can correctly be called a
cause, is that we are, as a race, in pockets, in nations, in groups,
and in individuals, exitting the Age of Stupidity (R) and entering the
Age of Wisdom (R). Consequently, things which have been taken for
granted or even viewed as wise, are being viewed as stupid. And more
and more.

Intellect is a sort of sliding scale. Wisdom or stupidity is more
clearcut. It's what you do with your intellect, your God-given smarts.

$cientology works on the IQ, the sliding scale, without, I can
personally confirm by my very slow mind, any success whatsoever. Then
in the wisdom or stupidity choice, $cientology directs its people, and
chooses for them, in pretty well any situation, stupidity.

That's why I believe it is a thoroughly honorable thing to dismantle
the $cientology organization and its "technology." It is an
organization and technology which produces stupidity, and any more
stupidity puts all of us at risk.

The alternative to $cientology is not another brand of $cientology,
not something else to move the intellect a point or so along the IQ
scale, but wisdom. I can say to every $cientologist with perfect
confidence that what I'm saying is absolutely accurate, seek wisdom.

If you don't find wisdom in Hubbard's teachings and if you don't find
wisdom in the people who run $cientology, then go elsewhere. No matter
what you learn in $cientology, if you don't find wisdom, you will be
doing something mighty stupid.

If you decide that you don't want wisdom but want to stay in
$cientology, then at least know that's the choice you're making.
Wisdom is free and takes no time at all. $cientology's costs are
gargantuan and it eats up all your time. Wisdom works.(R) Make the
wise choice.

At the University of Michigan hospital, the psychiatry department received
approximately 2000 applications for 10 first-year residency spots. Some
decline. :-)

The figure is probably at least close IMO.

But to claim that the bulk or even a significant proportion of such
deaths is due to prescribed use of psychiatric drugs--the legal dope
they retail while working Prohibition for all it's worth--is
ridiculous.

If its a coverup, how come you got an estimation signed by God?

You can't cover up that many deaths a year that would be clearly
attributable to adverse reactions. That's 5 people a day in
each of the 52 states of the USA. Sorry, but researchers would
uncover a trend within a year that pointed to it if that was
the case.

The medical world doesn't sit on its collective ass and mark
up 'another dead one' with some kind of made-up cause. Every
person has a treatment history. Deaths occurring during
routine procedures and treatments are well investigated.

I can't imagine where you got your estimate from. Probably one
of those well-researched conspiracy mags like NEXUS.

Well formal education is education by officially prescribed program.
If as a six year old you attend Grade One, that is formal education.
If you're pursuing a doctorate then formal education is your
officially prescribed doctoral program.

I have never met anyone who received no formal education. Home
schooling is not necessarily any less formal than schoolhouse
schooling.

Anyway, this wasn't important to the discussion. Just me expressing my
tip that you try for more precision in your expressions.

A good question. Why not get a few books on counselling and psychology
from the local library (if they haven't all been stolen), and find out
