The NetHack DevTeam is proud to announce the release of NetHack Version 3.3.0.

Version 3.3.0. is a brand new version of the game, with additional features
character classes, magic items and the (un)usual surprises. To download the
game, go to the NetHack website and download from the downloads page at
<http://www.nethack.org> . We're providing 16 and 32 bit Dos versions of the
game, as well as a Win32 binary, binaries for the Apple Macintosh (tm) Linux
(tm) and OS/2 (tm) platforms. Not all of the binaries may be available right
away - check back from time to time if the one you want isn't yet available.
As always, source is available (need you even ask :-)).

In addition to the 3.3.0 release, for those of you who cannot upgrade or do
not want to do so, we are releasing a patch that will take an unmodified 3.2.2
distribution and make it Year-2000 ready, as well as fix several bugs that
could cause the game to crash. We will also be re-releasing some 3.2.3
binaries for those of you who don't want to go directly to 3.3.0. You can
escape the effect of this most insidious of all Y2K bugs by installing the new
and improved version of NetHack, by installing one of the patched versions, or
rebuilding from the patched 3.2 code.

For the DevTeam...

AAARRGH!

My platform, a Mac PowerBook 190cs (68040 processor), running System 7.5,
40meg internal hardwired RAM, 120meg virtual.

Now if the bugs could be worked out, TrekHack would look BEAUTIFUL under
the 3.3.0 style.

Oh, BTW. An armor class for TrekHack. An enviroment suit.

Basically, it would be a suit type armor, naturally, but you would have to
take off any gloves, boots and helmets to wear the enviroment suit.

The enviroment suit would have to be made fireproof, and it would have a
number of charges that represents how much air is in the enviroment suit.

If an enviroment suit is blessed, it makes much better use of the charges
of oxygen. If the suit is cursed, not only will the suit be stuck, if the
suit runs out of charges and it's still cursed...

"Your enviroment suit computer sounds an alarm!" --More--
"Warning! Life support is at critical levels!" --More--
"Warning! Life support has failed!" --More--

and then the death by slow suffocation....;)

*sigh* It was pretty while I had it.

Sadly, I had to delete NetHack 3.3.0 from my Mac HD. It's still way too
buggy, especially since 3.3.0 is just released, who knows what it'll do in
whatever Macintosh.

I'm lucky I can still play 3.2.2 on my PowerBook 190cs.

Ah well.

If there were a way to help fix the code for a pre-PowerPC Mac, what
specific coding tools and applications would I need? If perhaps I wanted
to work on my TrekHack version, what would I need to do to add the new
monsters and character classes?

Thanks.

You'd better get the 3.2.3 patch, or you won't be able to play it in
(consult calendar) 20 days.

Debugged? Are you referring to bugs in the source or the binary? In either
case what are they?
I can't get this version to compile under MPW either; it fails at the first
linking step. (I'm therefore using the ready-made binary again <sigh>.)
However I did find and solve these problems:

* Replace all references in the makefile to "Runtime.o" with "MacRuntime.o".
* In global.h, add
#include <time.h>
below the line
#include <stdio.h>
as this lib is not included anywhere else, and this seems like the best
place to do it.

That would be the first thing I'd fix :)
3.3.0 appears to be stable under 8.6, but I've barely had a chance to test
it yet. :)

I believe the one that said "NetHack" was crossposted to
rec.games.roguelike.announce, where plenty of people *might* be confused about
which DevTeam.

If reading the copy that was crossposted to newsgroup
rec.games.roguelike.announce, then yes there were bound to
people who wouldn't assume "DevTeam == NetHack" among the
audience.

As to why Mike sent two separate messages to begin with,
I don't know. Perhaps he was worried about moderator delay
so sent a separate message here.
