Well I guess 34 years old is "older than dirt" because I can
remember 16 of them. I remember Blackjack gum, but there
was another gum you could buy that also came in sticks...
can't remember the name but it was something like "Beechnut"
or something like that, came in a white wrapper with
black and tan stripes ... that was my favorite when I was
little, could probably get 12 - 14 sticks of that in my
mouth.

Anybody else remember that fruit-flavored, zebra-striped
gum?

Not only do I remember all of them, but I've still got quite a few of
those items layin' around. (I pity the executor of my will)

Spinner and Paddlefoot, respectively. This was the first show I remember having
"limited animation," as opposed to the full animation of Loony Tunes and
especially the Fleischer Studios cartoons (Popeye, Betty Boop, Superman). In
fact, the animation was so crappy, that movies of human lips voicing the dialog
were supered over immobile drawing. The effect was nothing short of weird.

Time-Warner bought the magazine while William B, Gaines was still alive, and
allowed him to run the magazine as he always had. I think the only real change was
the cover price (Still Cheap!), and assume that the magazine is still being run
the same way. I'm no longer twelve, so I don't read it.

Did get to meet David Goldberg about a quarter-century ago when he spoke at the
Hillel Foundation at Indiana University. Someone drug him over to the college

Reminded me of that old joke about the fella who asked for help. He told his
friend to push him with his car at 30mph so he could drop it into gear and
start the car. Friend of course says ok. So the first guy is sitting and
waiting and waiting, then all of a sudden WHAM! His friend crashes into the
back of his car. "What the hell did you do that for?!" he angerly shouted.
"Well you TOLD me to push you at 30mph, so that's what I did" his friend
replied stupidly. The friend went on to become a South Bend city council member

OK, I knew the phrase "cool water sandwich, but couldn't place it until the
mention of the BLues Brothers. They re-cut "Rubber Biscuit," first sung by the
Chips on Josie Records in 1956. The original was the opener for Michael
Cuscuna's free-form radio show and was also used in Martin Scorsese's "Mean
Streets." The song had its origins in song phrases on of the Chips heard while
in reform school.

There is no comparison among the three products you've mentioned:
Photoshop, Corel Draw , Pagemaker.

Photoshop is an image editing and creation program. It processes
bitmapped images, like a scanned photo. Depending on image size, color
model (Grayscale, Indexed color, RGB, or CMYK), and resolution, file size
can get whopper big.

Corel Draw is a drawing program. It produces vector graphics. Vectors
describe lines mathematically and produce smaller file sizes. In general,
it's darn hard to get "photographic" results without a lot of time and
thought. A lot of people swear by Corel's products; I prefer Adobe
Illustrator. I used to use Freehand. I hate Corel Draw. (Your mileage may
vary.)

Pagemaker is a page layout program. You use this to combine the bitmapped
and/or vector image with text to produce a document, generally targeted
for printed output. You can use Draw (or Freehand, or Illustrator) for
small layout projects, such as an ad. I wouldn't want to use it for book
or magazine work!

Sorry if this is tedious, but I use these programs at least eight hours a
day -- time I could be working on my car!
