Hi All,
I'm trying to install OSR5.0.5 to a sony laptop without a CD.
(Actually it does have one, but it's a pcmcia CD and OS5 can't see it )

So, netisl seems the way to go.

After a few problems with a bootsting being truncated ( at about 260 chars )
I got stuck.

Searches dejanews and found the following article by JPR from over a year
ago. The
problems he had are identical to mine. Exacly the same error at the same
point.
I asked JPRif he got it too work. Unfortunately not, and there were no
replies in this NG.

I have checked and I can tftp that file from another SCO box with no probem.
It looks to me as if the tftp command is missing a host name ( or rather its
ip address).
I have searched for the tftp command, both on the special boot floppy, and
by
uncompressing the rootFS image located under /tftpboot/isl/cl/clientname,
dd'ing it to a floppy and mounting it.

Has anyone succesfully done a network install with 505? I do know someone
who did
it with 500.

Is it really the case that not a single person in this group
apart from JPR and myself has done, or has tried to do, a network install?

Could very well be. I've done it with Unixware, but never
with OSR5, probably because very few OSR5 installations
involve more than one machine. Right this moment only a
handful of my customers have more than one SCO box..and most
of those are in different cities..

You may well be right Tony, but I'm still supprised.
Ho Hum.

In that case has anyone use a parallel port CDROM
to install OS5? Three models are listed in the HCH,
one from Parallel Storage Solutions is even SCO CERTIFIED
but there is no mention if the driver is a BTLD
and PSS have sofar not replied to my email.

At one time the HCH or CHWP was an excellent resource but for some
time the entries have been the responsibility of the vendors and
SCO only oversees the entries. YMMV

Over the years there have been muttering about such a device from
Parallel Storage but I've yet to know of anyone who has seen or used
one.

I have used, with good results a "Cristie" Parallel CD-ROM - actually
came supplied with a OpenServer 5 BTLD Floppy disk.

(Model number used was a 'CD1600 Parallel', but it's quite dated now
but I assume the later models will still have OpenServer BTLD's)

Cheers,
Dave.

Following your post I called Cristie.

Yes the CD1600 supported OS5.

The replacment Model does not support OS5.

The C1600 is discontinued.

Ahhhhhh.
