I understand that, although to a large extent I *am* what I post to

thing... my personality comes with me to work.

No, despite his name. Er, my name.
One of the first groups I ever read was alt.fan.british-accent, where
ANNA was one of the leading lights. I don't think I ever posted there
-- this was before the days of Deja News, so we'll never know -- but I
gazed, transfixed, from afar. Or something.
HB and MHROTD for the other day, ANNA.

So, this is Mandy's boss. Now protocol dictates that Mandy cannot
welcome him even though she is Chief Slut so much as I hate the job,
someone's gotta do it.

What, on the job on the job?
I read the other day that there are rules preventing lawyers from having
sex with their clients. The idea is that you can't be charged twice for
essentially the same service.

Which probably means it's time to repost this joke;
It was published in a legal magazine about 5years ago and is allegedly
a true story.
The chap in the magazine wrote a spoof lawyer's problem page which
went something like this...
"I am a solicitor. About 6 months ago a client, an attractive blonde
divorcee, visited our offices for help with a complaint about her new
vacuum cleaner which did not work. Our eyes met across the desk and
within seconds we were making mad passionate love. She has visited
the office three times now and each time the same thing has happened,
what should I do?
Agony Uncle Replies - the vacuum cleaner is clearly not of merchantable
quality, and your client has redress under the Sale of Goods Act."
Allegedly this turned up in an American newspaper about 6 months
later as an example of a real problem and the solution as the
real reply.

Yeah, I don't like long sigs myself. Waste of bandwidth. However, I
type the 'Markus' bit myself (and sometimes change it), and my
understanding is that the 4x70 restriction starts at the line *after*
the dash-dash-space. Anyone care to confirm or refute?

Cor! A whole delegation! No one's ever paid me 'umble littly siggy

All right, by popular demand, I've moved my name into my sig, underneath
the double-dash-space. Be patient with me when my name appears twice,
'cos in other newsgroups I type my name by hand, and old habits die
hard.

Ask Mandy whether I look like an air hostess (especially with the three
days' growth I'm showing at the moment). I am to air hostessing what
Mariah Carey is to spot welding. Besides, the plane would lurch from

It did, thanks. It was a bit of a tear-jerker, though: the bride and
groom lost a baby on the operating table recently, and they stopped
during the wedding service to honour her properly. A number of close
friends actually turned up to the wedding in black. It was an unusual

I hope not. Mandy learns fast and looks like being a valuable asset in
the very near future (i.e. by the middle of this week, if not before).
I should point out that I read her Web site and her d.l contributions
*before* her first interview, not after. They told me what I wanted to
know: that she has energy, technical competence, intelligence and
optimism, copes with adversity, and likes people (and they like her).
There's plenty of room in ****** Ltd for people like that.
Whether describing yourself as Chief Slut would help or hinder your
chances, Tim, is something I can only speculate about. Just like the
origin of our silly name, '****** Ltd'.

Nope: Alta Vista for the Web site (since it might not have been with
Demon) and Deja News for Usenet. As it happens, the results were the
same as if I'd just used the brute-force approach, but then I wouldn't
have known if I'd found everything. [Evil cackle]
> [Note to self: Always use a redirection account for work-related

That's only worth doing if you use a pseudonym in one sphere or the
other. AltaVista turns up Mandy's Web site in seconds.

Good grief, I hadn't realised that, though I'm pleased it was that way
around, to be honest.

Blimey, I'm glad I didn't let the knowledge that posts are archived
cramp my style! :)

I'd much rather work for a company who employed me knowing what/who they
were taking on than to find the company couldn't cope with my
character/personality.

I must admit I keep having the odd chuckle at the name in view of my
role here! :)

Wow. Respect due there, I think.

You have tried this?? ;)

I prefer the skin-tight slimline look, probably because I already have
chunky thighs! :)

Mandy - should I wear my leather skirt to work...??

'S all right, that was the oral variety of dribble.
> Good.. did you wear your new suit?
Yeah, but I had the camera for most of the day, so I think I escaped
being photographed. You'll have to wait for the ****** Ltd Christmas do
to see it; that's one of the few annual suit-wearing occasions.

What, and frighten the horses?

My dearly beloved refers to it as a chin scourer.

That might be difficult to explain to MDB. Perhaps we should
compromise. I'll wear no more than three days' growth, and you wear
some other perfume and smoke something non-allergenic (such as
parsnips).
Or perhaps I should go and talk to Vee instead. [Pout]

Right. I'm calling your bluff. Where's the other?

I'll take votes by mail at one of the following two addresses:
y...@laker.tcp.co.uk
n...@laker.tcp.co.uk
Voting closes at 1700 GMT on Wednesday 25/11/98. A full list of voters
will be published here later that evening, along with any witty
comments, if TCP's dodgy newsfeed allows. (Would you believe their
entire alt.* newsfeed has been out of action since Friday evening and
they haven't even acknowledged the fault yet?)
