From an old post of mine:

I got tired of waiting for my own posts taking 8-9 hours to show up on
Google groups so I went looking for a faster server.

I probably found this one listed somewhere on this (the VO) newsgroup:

http://news.cis.dfn.de/

It is a service of DFN-CIS: Center for Information Services at the computer
center of Freie Universitat Berlin, Germany.

You have to register to use it, but my posts now show up within minutes.
Usually I have a couple responses within the hour.

It took 4 days before my account was set up, but it's been worth it.

I'm sending this June 6, 2002 at 6:55pm Daylight Savings Time.

Yep.

You need to be respectful, courteous, patient, and not abusive.

He's probably seen how you behave towards others in here.

So now that Netscape is dead.. what next.
Essentially the $750Million US to the AOL means the Netscape browser
development is dead and they will ship IE or the Microsoft alternative for
the next 7 years.

Also interesting to see Microsoft is not going to shipping IE as a separate
product anymore but making it officially part of the operating system for
all future developments.

Hard to replace it as part of the Anti-trust thing.. if it is part of the
operating system.

To change browsers has no great interest to me..

IE is not fast as some but it has a lot to offer.
If it is part of the operating system from now on.. no big deal.
There is no way they can will keep Netscape in the longer term.

The desktop and web are converging so it makes sense that any operating
systems whether windows or Linux has a browser as part of its interface and
desktop.

That's ok.
