"CRIME WAVE" (1985) Directed by John Paizs, this is the story of a
screenwriter named Steven who can write beginnings and endings for
movies, but not middles. He rents a room from a nice suburban couple
and tries to finish his screenplay for the ultimate "color crime
movie." Along the way, the couple's inquisitive daughter, Kim, becomes
Steven's #1 fan. She gets him in touch with an experienced screenwriter
who turns out to be... well, watch the darned film for yourself. It's
sorta David Lynch meets John Waters. A lot of bizarre scenes from
Steven's unfinished screenplay are acted out along the way, and those
are the highlights of the movie. "Crime Wave" is a definite
love-it-or-hate-it movie. I happen to love it.
Well, we're up to one. Ninety-nine left.

All right, I'll add two to this list.
2) Zombie Nightmare. Will definately stay on this list until someone can name
100 other Canadian films, damnit!
3) Strange Brew. I don't know if Canadians would want to actually claim this
movie, but I like it and, again, until someone can name enough Canadian films
to knock it out of the top 100, it's in, eh?

Nope. It was made by Michael Moore ("Roger & Me"), who is from Michigan
-- near Canada but not quite in it.
Around here (the Flint area), Moore is a HUGE celebrity and virutally
everything he does is newsworthy.
By the way, "Roger & Me" fans, the Autoworld amusement park seen in the
movie was (sadly) torn down. I used to love driving by it every day.
An abandoned amusement park is even better than a functioning one.
Something about having a local "Carnival of Souls" right near by was
appealing to me. At the very least, I think Flint should have kept it
standing as a stern reminder never to waste that kind of money again.

I was glad to see someone include The Hanging Garden (an East Coast

Hmmm. Oh, let's see . . .
On a dare, a young boy enters a house reputed to be haunted, where he sees
something so frightening that all of his hair falls out. One night, benign
ghosts appear in his kitchen and give him a recipe, involving peanut butter,
for a hair restoration formula. It works, but his hair won't stop growing, and
by the next afternoon it trails for meters and meters behind him. (In the
comic subplot, his best friend has the same problem, except that he used the
solution to grow hair in his private batchicular area.) The long-haired boy
attracts the attention of an evil artist, who kidnaps him and uses his hair to
manufacture magic paintbrush bristles. These brushes produce paintings so
realistic that people can step into them. The boy is rescued, he escapes into
a painting of the haunted house, and the evil artist follows him but sees
something in the haunted house so frightening that her hair falls out.
Is that the one?
