we has installed openserver 5.0.5b on a compaq server.
Now the system hangs completly?
Some days the system works fine, but then it hangs totaly.
No output on the console (the console is black)
No network response
all connections are lost
all the lamps are green of the harddisks.
With the Enter-key the systems reboots and did a fsck?
In the log-files I haven't any entries about this behaviour.
Can I increase any log-level on openserver?
I worked mainly wiht linux, so I have some problems to find the reason!!!
thanks
Thomas
You've got to give us more info to work with. Exactly which Compaq?
What's in the box (Ram, type of drive etc).
Make sure *all* shadowing in the BIOS (Video, caches etc) are turned off.
Also, if the Compaq is one of those with "Shared Ram" video
builtin/cards it will *never* be stable. You can't even disable the AGP
RAM sharing on some Compaq's, so you may have to use another model/brand
for SCO.

Do you have the screensaver turned on (TBLNK) ? if so - turn it off,
then next time it happens - see if there are any panic messages - most
likley there will be !
or alternativley -- next time don't press enter - try pressing a
modifier key like SHIFT or CTRL - it's probably sitting on a panic
message, with a PRESS ANY KEY TO REBOOT prompt -- but because the
screensaver is active you don't see it -- and of course as soon as you
hit enter it reboots.

If the <Enter> key reboots, then this sounds like a panic, not a hang.
In which case you'll have crash dumps which will give some clues.

So we see there is still hope that we could solve this problem!
Now some more details:
Proliant 1600, 2 x Pentium III/450, Compaq & Kinsgton - memory (about
700 MB), Compaq-Smart-Array 2DH
That's right the screensaver is active.
So cause I haven't a sound knowledge of openserver in detail, so
please
could you help me, how I can deactivate the screensaver?
Thanks in advance.

You need to get familiar with the FAQ:
http://aplawrence.com/SCOFAQ/scotec1.html#screensavers
But more specifically,
cd /etc/conf/cf.d
./configure TBLNK=0
./link_unix
and reboot

Thank you!!
The screensaver is disabled.
Now we are waiting for the next server failure!
(and hope this will never happen)
