In case anyone cares, I found that the PowerUser CDROM player sold by
MacWarehouse for $199 works fine on a Compaq with NEC SCSI card. I
purchased three to be used with a Quadra 610. When I found out it couldn't
drive 3 CDROMs I ditched it and bought the Compaq. Instead of sending the
PowerUser players back, I tried them with DOS. Everything works fine and
I'm running three of them. I suspect that the key may be that the
PowerUser uses a NEC CDR210 mechanism which is sold as an OEM drive to
third parties.

So there you goÉ

Hi Jim, When you found that your Power User CD Rom drive "wouldn't play three
CD rom's" and switched to Compac, was it because those CD Rom discs that
wouldn't play were configured for DOS/Windows or was it a problem relating to
the Mac drivers?

I am about to purchase one of the PowerUser drives but have heard that the
NEC 210 mechanisms have problems with some discs that are on the market.

What do you say, brother? Thanks --> Kit Thomas
