I have been reading endless postings on bit.listserv.catholic about sex,
reproduction, abortion, homosexuality, and related things. I have also heard
the same things from the pulpits of various Catholic churches. All this
obsession has finally given me an insight into the true nature of the
Catholic Church. There is a common thread here.
Contraception prevents babies from being born; that's bad.
Abortion stops live births; that's bad.
Homosexuality does not result in babies; that's bad too.
Masturbation does not result in babies; Very bad.
It is now obvious to me that the true and underlying purpose of the
Catholic Church as revealed by its current exponents is that of
increasing human fertility and fostering as many live births as possible.
That is, the Church is a FERTILITY CULT. One's approach to the Divine is
mediated by one's sexual status and fecundity. If you engage in any
anti-fertility behavior, or hold anti-fertility beliefs, you are a sinner
and not in God's favor! What God really wants is MORE LIVE BIRTHS.
This purpose puts the Catholic Church in the same place as the most
primal and ancient cults of humankind, whose purpose was to make sure the
tribe survived. Even though our human tribe now numbers over five
billion, God's demand for more and more people, as evidenced by the
modern Fertility Cult, has not changed.
If indeed the word of the Church is the word of Jesus for our time,
that means that Jesus is consistent with his pagan predecessors such as
Tammuz, Adonis, and Osiris (who also were said to have died and risen
from the dead) and he is actually a Middle Eastern Fertility God. That also
would be true for his Mother, and her predecessors such as Isis, Star of
the Sea.
It is also interesting that the priests of this fertility-cult have
willingly given up their fertility by vows of celibacy - much as the
priests of the goddess Cybele did in a much more drastic manner.

I totally agree with you. At a time when the mortality rate was high,
this served a purpose. Now we are facing a population explosion and
the decimation of Earth's resources to accomodate it. Too bad
organized religion does not change quickly enough to serve the needs of
its worshipers.
