Hello,
I have a Sony DCR-TRV38 Digital Video Camera. When i use it in Adobe Premiere 6.2 and try and capture video, "the DV device is unavailable for device control". I looked through the settings and other DCR-TRV cameras are there (DCR-TRV320 for example is there), but 38 is not. Is there anything i can download or do so i can capture from my camera?

Thank you,
Nate

Could be your firewire card. I have had no trouble using the 38. I would try double checking that you have your camera brand set to Sony, and your device control set to generic.

Also make sure that WINDOWS knows its a TRV38. The first time you plugged it in windows should have given you a message telling you that you had just connected a new DV device. Then after a few sec it should tell you that you have connected a TRV38.

If not then check to make sure that you have proper drivers for your cam installed.

(I assume that you are using Windows XP)
(I also hope that you have connected the camera Firewire and NOT USB)

Well, its good to hear that if you have not had any problems with the 38 then it must be my card. Maybe i'll try a different camera. Thanks for the help.

Machine control is not available through USB, only through firewire. Why would you want to connect a firewire capable camera through USB anyway?

Hey Nathan! I urgently would like to know if the problem was really with your firewire card, because i have the same message error with my Sony DCR-TRV 22 but the card is aparently right as it appears on the screen camera the words "DV IN". So, was your card wrong or the problem is something else?
If someone else wants to answer me, please, you are welcome!

had that problem with my trv-18. I changed my device control to trv-20 from generic and found that it worked but then the next time it did not work. Finally i found out that what works for me is to load premier then connect the camera then open the capture window. Occassionally i still get the unable to control message and all i do is close the window, unplug the camera, recconect it, and reopen the capture window...works well for me...hope it helps you

Procrastination,

I am having the same problem with my DCR-TRV38. It won't capture. The camera shows DV IN. Device Control allows me to start and stop camera, but not caputure. I can also view an image like monitor.

I am trying to capture in Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5. The camera does work in the Windows Movie Maker.

I forgot, my present firewire card is Adaptec Fireconnect 4300. Did you replace yours? What worked? What were your Adobe Premiere Pro device control settings?
