Taking Tilman's challenge to heart, I just finished having a
fascinating telephonic discussion with the Rev. N.J. L'Heureux
(Executive Director, Queens Council of Churches, 86-17 105th St.,
Richmond Hills, NY 11418-1597, Tel: 718-847-6764). All told, we
chatted for 45 minutes.

I told him my brother was involved with a cult called $cientology, had
hit me up for a $3000 loan and I was worried about him. What should I
do?
L'Heureux's advice was to go down to the Co$ and talk to them about it.
"You won't disappear into a Bermuda Triangle," he said, adding,
"They'll let you leave whenever you want to and they will treat you
with respect."
I asked him about a Time magazine article that said the CoS was a cult
and that a bunch of its leaders went to jail. Is that true? 'Not to
my knowledge." He was not familiar with the Time story but the media,
he explained, has put out a lot of negative information on the Co$
that simply isn't true. I asked him if I should lend my brother the
money. "That's between you and your brother," he said. Visiting the
Co$ in my area "is a fine thing to do" and if my brother didn't have
the money to pay for a course, "they can make alternate payment
arrangements."
He suggested that www.scientology.org was a good place for me to get
information on the Co$ and that he knew of no other sites. As far as
convictions went, "there were some problems in the '70's with the IRs
but that's all over".

Tilman's questions answered, I thought I'd ask a few of my own. At
this point, we've been talking for 5 minutes or so and any reasonable
person would have thanked him for his help and headed down to the local
bOrg.

Things then got quite interesting. I told him straight that I was
surprised with the answers he gave me and was he a $cientologist? No
he said, he is a Methodist minister and volunteers for the new CAN.
The old CAN was a classic anticult group that went bankrupt and was
bought out by a group of people who are $cientologists. Oh, I said, so
a cult is giving advice on a cult? How can I believe whzat he was
telling me? The explained that the Co$-controlled CAN put together a
group of people like himself who were not affiliated with the Co$ to
advise people. He said I was the third referral from the website in as
many months and he recieves no money for being on the list.

I went back to the question of the $3000. Isn't that more like a
business than a religion? He told me that is an oft-repeated charge
and one he could understand. When one visits an Org (he had only
visited the one in NYC) it looks like an office with desks, murals,
etc. A Co$ Org "has a formal corporate look, akin to a corporate
office. Their theology runs a little on the thin side."
Is the Co$ a cult, I asked. He told me that the word is much
misused.

Q. If $cientology is not a cult, could he name any who are? A. Not
off the top of his head, but a cult is usually dependant on that man
who created it.

Q. So $cientology is a cult? A. It is on the edge of being a cult
and is on it's way to being a sect, in theological terms.

Q. Does $cientology only want people's money? A. Again, I can see
why people think this because of their corporate style, but the money
does not enrich anyone. It goes back into the Co$. The IRS gave their
approval.

Q. I found a website called www.xenu.net . Is what they say true? A.
Let me write that website down, I'll look into it. Can you spell it
for me please? (I did)

Q. There's something on that site about a lady named Lisa Mcpherson.
It says the Co$ killed her. Is that true? A. Mcpherson was a member
who died, apparently had a pre-existing medical condition, got agitated
and came back to the church. The CoS tried to help her, it's not clear
whether it helped or not. I don't believe they were able to help
her, she died in their care. There is no evidence they did anything
active, perhaps should have taken her to hospital earlier, she was
dehydrated.
This case is part of an ongoing dispute in Clearwater re taxes. There
is a continuing subtext of agitation, the state brought criminal
charges against the Co$ but they are not proven and may never even come
to trial.

The Rev. N.J. L'Heureux is clearly an articulate, well-spoken and
intelligent guy. Such a shame he shills for a criminal cult.

Thanks for doing this! It appears to me that the Reverend
L'Heureux has been spoon-fed $cientology's sugar-coated PR.

I'll be doing some enlightenment on Reverend L'Heureux
myself.

Could someone please post (and email to me) the names, phone
numbers and addresses for more of these cult apologists?

I'd certainly appreciate it.

All the best,

Resistance is futile. You will be enturbulated. Xenu always prevails.

Don't forget either the poresident of world society of sociologists of
religions, Liliane Voyé. Belgium, Leuwen-Louvain University.

Her husband is also an apologist.

She never answered to my critical letter, months ago (perhaps does she apply
ron's policy "not answering to entheta letters, putting them into dead
files"?
