I see a bunch of settings marked as Unsafe in my config files. Can I just
remove the "unsafe" or how can I inform ET that they are safe for my system

AMD XP 2400+ (maybe 2600+ I forget) 2.0GHz
768 PC2700 DDR Ram
Win Xp Pro SP1
MSI GeForce4 Ti4600 128M RAM version
All HDDs are 7200 RMP models
SB 5.1 X-Gamer
Cable Connection 768/128

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be feasible... Removing "unsafe" from
the seta lines in the configuration file won't do the trick, so the only
safe bet seems to be removing all the profile.pid files ahead of time.

Since I couldn't find them before... here are some scripts to do that
automagically:

Linux: e.g. 'runet'
#!/bin/sh
rm -f $HOME/.etwolf/*/profiles/*/profile.pid
cd "/usr/local/games/enemy-territory"
/et.x86 $*
exit $?

Win32: e.g. 'runet.bat'
@ECHO OFF
CD "C:\Program Files\Wolfenstein - Enemy Territory"
DEL /s /f /q profile.pid
ET.EXE %1 %2 %3 %4 %5 %6 %7 %8 %9

You'll need to change the directory if you've installed ET someplace
else, of course, but if you use a script like that to start ET, it
should keep it from eating your settings.

Nonetheless, I try to keep a backup of my .cfg laying around Just In
Case.

Good Idea, I can set Windows Washer to custom wash those items from the
folder and subfolders. So I should remove the Unsafe and then all pids and
it wont be a bother anymore?

Removing 'unsafe' from the appropriate config file lines won't matter,
but it shouldn't revert the settings as long as no profile.pid exists
when ET is started.

Yah, that's what I am getting at.
Delete the pid files, remove the "Unsafe" from the cfg files and they should
stay away as long as I don't encounter an error or crash.
