A) any truth to this? How secure are you guys?
B) Are you going to be able to tell the FULL story with Jeremiah? Go the
distance? etc...?
After Crusade, Rangers, Farscape, Firefly, Odyssey 5 - you can
understand why one would be a little on edge about getting involved in
the story of intelligent SF TV these days. B5 still stands alone as the
only one to actually finish its story, and even that got slightly
muddled near the end there due to industry craziness.
Help! I'm losing my grip on unreality!! :-)

I'd heard the reverse, that Sony had attached a number of conditions to the
show that made it fiscally unviable for Showtime to pick it up. At least
that's the word on the street among show runner types.

Every series is season-by-season.

I have always found that so horrible for a show. There should be a clause
written into the contract of any episodic television series that if the show
were to be cancelled that a final show would be done before the show went
off the air. This would give the viewers the opportunity to see at least a
few threads of the plot tied up and ended. The viewers get so frustrated
when a TV show that they have come to like just gets cancelled without there
actually being an ending.
But I guess I care about the viewers.

I don't know about a contractual clause but I will say it is getter harder and
harder for me to get into any show nowadays. Either a series' gets yanked after
a few episodes or lasts the season only to be "retooled" during hiatus and come
back for a second season in some almost unrecognizable form. And the latest
trend seems to be that even if a show performs relatively well, builds an
audience and lasts a couple of seasons it still gets cancelled for reasons
unrelated to performance. I believe we are in the midst of another television
dark age were the various outlets are taking their audiences for granted.

As was Babylon 5, but you planned it for 5 seasons. So, for how many
seasons did you plan the arc of Jeremiah?
