The World Cup is now well underway, with all but three of the opening round
matches complete. The USA are one of the six teams still to be blooded, and
they will open their accounts tomorrow against Portugal in Suwon.

The shock of the World Cup so far remains champions France's opening match
defeat to minnows Senegal, with other matches going largely to form and
prediction.

Favourites Argentina edged past Nigeria by the only goal, and many peoples'
tip Italy comfortably defeated Ecuador. Spain, also favoured by some
pundits, were likewise clearly the better side as they disposed of Slovenia
by three goals to one.

In the other match in the so-called 'Group of Death', England and Sweden
fought out a dour 1-1 draw, which had supporters of neither side feeling
confident about the challenges to come.

In the Group C opener, perennial favourites Brazil squeezed past Turkey,
2-1, benefiting from a controversial late penalty. The red card also had a
field day during this encounter, Turkey being reduced to nine men as not
one, but two of their players took an enforced early bath.

At the top of Group E are the World Cup's big scorers, Germany, who crushed
the inept Saudi Arabia by a thumping eight goals to nil. In that same
group, the Republic of Ireland and Cameroon fought out a 1-1 draw, and the
Mexicans joined the Italians at the top of Group G after edging past Croatia
by the only goal.

Today, each of the joint-hosts commence their campaign. As I write this
missive, South Korea are leading by a single goal to nil against Poland,
while Japan have just fought out an entertaining 2-2 draw with Belgium.

In what is sure to provide the major talking point in the Land of the Rising
Sun tonight, the Japanese had what appeared to be a perfectly valid late
winner ruled out for a foul, which seemed non-existent in the eyes of this
observer...

Jiffy lacks worldwide sophistication, he thinks the World Series is really
the "world" series. He is a nativist American who believes that
"Joe`s World Famous Hamburgers" at his local eatery are really
world famous!

Well, alas, a recent poll actually shows that on the world scene
Pizzas are eaten more frequently than Hamburgers. And "le foot"
or real football is what the Americans call soccer. American football
is--- well American. So of like the death penalty.

Actually, I watched past of the World Cup on the tube. I found it very

Not nearly as exciting as real football as played in America.

But hey...to each his own Dezi. If you want to watch soccer, go right ahead.

American "football" is a fine game indeed. All the more so as seen in
Oz where we get only the bits of the telecast where they actually play
and the _critical_ huddles and other bits of strategy. We get the
Readers Digest version, if you will.

The whole world wants to watch soccer (sic), Jiggy. All of it. Even
uncultured, loutish Australians have started talking about real football
in preference to Australian Rules "football" of late.

As desi would say 'the dead cannot be honored.' So I guess,
according to desi, that would be 'Hitler's memory is world
famous.' :-)

Nonetheless, the argument 'was' in respect to 'world famous,'
not in respect to a culinary delight. And even McDonald's
serves up a dicey burger every now and then. :-)

But seriously, don't think that the U.S. doesn't have some
superb restaurants. I've been to many, many Michelin
three-star restaurants in France... all fantastic. As are
almost all restaurants of any quality in France. I have an
autographed large poster from Paul Bocuse, and when I
once dined at the Tour d'Argent, the waiter remarked that I
was at the table that Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands had
dined at just the night before (BFD). But the BEST dinner
I've ever had at a restaurant in my life, was in Canton, Ohio.
The rack of lamb. And a superb domestic California wine.
As deep as any Bordeaux you can imagine. I don't even
remember the name of the restaurant, but I do know how
to get to it, since it was a short distance from the hotel I
stayed in. I would go out of my way 200 miles, if I were
ever in that vicinity, to eat there again. I'd probably be
disappointed this time.

I'd be worried if a country of nigh on 300 million people couldn't
manage quite a number of superb restaurants. Even my home state
(population 200k or thereabouts) has at least three, possibly four.

Don't knock Californian wines or underestimate them for a moment. A
couple of the Californian Zinfandels that I've been fortunate enough to
try have been _enormous_, almost to the point of being undrinkable.
Magnificent stuff.

As is often the case with restaurants. :(

'Tis true. Almost literally every country on earth enters the World Cup,
and 'soccer' is so clearly the #1 sport on earth it is not even close.

After all, what comes second? Cricket? Rugby?

The international appeal of even these comparitively popular team sports
cannot be more than 10% of that of Association Football (the full title,
Jiggy, hence derivation of name 'soccer')

Incidentally, Jiggy, you may not be aware that your 'football' is a simple
bastardisation of real football. That is, of course, why it curiously
retains the appelation 'football', tracing its' roots from Association
Football, through Rugby (union) Football, then Rugby League Football.

Both codes of rugby, and your game, maintain the name football in
acknowledgement of their heritage- American Football is basically Rugby
League with a forward pass added (and gayboy padding)

BTW, Jiggy, do you know who William Webb Ellis is? If you're a fan of
American Football, you should. Try a search.

I've had enough of these silly wine euphemisms.

Explain to me specifically, QZD, how a wine can be 'enormous'?

Tch. this response is the refuge of the confused and bewildered.

Wines _cannot_ be enormous. Or 'cheeky', for that matter.

They _may_ be 'fruity' or 'oaky' or have a long finish, however.

But they CANNOT be 'insolent' under any circumstances!

I don't know. A few I've tried (including one or two bad vintages of
ordinary excellent Bordeaux I've tried) were pretty insulting.

BTW, Jiggy, do you know who William Webb Ellis is? If you're a fan of
American Football, you should. Try a search.

==============================
Being the curious type I did as search as you suggest. Ellis was a Brit who was
playing soccer. During one game, he became so frustrated at the lack of
excitement and action he broke the rules, grabbed the ball, and ran with it.

The rest of his teammates, and the watching audience all realized that this was
something new and the no longer had to watch sheep grazing for real excitement.

Then the Americans came along and refined it into true football.

Thanks for the tip.

And the best Steak Mignon I have ever eaten (actually the best

Some people did travel well over 200 miles to eat there mainly
because there's nowhere else in between

What with Japan and South Korea doing so well, it was rather comforting to

The best way of illustrating it would be to find (if you can) a
Tasmanian Cabernet Sauvignon and compare/contrast it with a Cabernet
from South Australia. The former will seem distinctly lightweight
compared with the latter.

I don't think that your local supermarkets will carry the Tas Cab
Sauvignon, though, although a SA red will be available from your local
off-licence. Not a great one but something vaguely drinkable. You'll
have to spend some serious money to get a good one (maybe as many as 10
of your British pounds).

If you can't identify of what kind of fruit a wine tastes then you have
no right to use the adjective "fruity" or, indeed, to drink the wine -
give it to someone with at least a bluffer's knowledge[1].

> or 'oaky'

If you can pick the oak above and beyond the fruit then the bloody
thing's been over-oaked, hasn't it. Tacked on the back of that
catch-all generalization I'd like to add that you're a prize fool if you
buy Oz chardonnays from warm climates - oily, oaky, disgusting things
that they are.

appear to realise it.

Do note that France's star player (whose name eludes me for the time
being) is a dark-skinned individual.

Why is it that I'm suddenly thinking of the word "nig-nog". One of my
favourites. As used in Not the Nine O'Clock News (roughly paraphrased):

SERGEANT: You are aware that Mr Kodogo's family is of Carribean
extraction, Savage?
CONSTABLE SAVAGE: I though they was nig-nogs, sir.

A friend of mine from Sierra Leone almost wet himself when he heard that
particular sketch.

Mr Q. Z. D., rambling.

A witty response from Desmond and the usual sad
humourless retort from PV. You, PV, just don't
have it in you to respond in kind and the lack of
that quality ruins many of your posts however

times than anyone can count. You're just the one that can't see it, my
fatherless young friend.

Zinedine Zidane, the World's greatest footballer, Algerian parentage
but born and bred in France. His complexion is as light as any
northern European and he is a slap head. France have performed
abysmally without him.

If he could shed his grumpiness, he'd probably do better in the area of
harmless, pointed jibes at the expense of the opposition. If someone
gets me a beauty[1] I hope that I've generally shown the good grace to
grin and bear it.

PV is not without a sense of humour but he regards personal attacks as
serious stuff, whether he is on the giving or receiving end.

That's because I wasn't 'trying' to be humorous.
When I do 'try' I am. When desi tries, it only comes
out as little turd-balls. Obviously, my mention of
'McDonald's' was seen as 'irony,' while desi has
no concept of that word.

In respect to desi and dirt -- If you expect me to be
civil to those who have claimed I am a pedophile
who lusts after altar boys, or another who claims
to have orally copulated with my Mother, you are
expecting more from me than I am willing to give.
And if it doesn't suit you, you can simply ignore
it.

Rather than asserting that 'I' should be civil to either
of them, why not mention how THEY have been
uncivil to me. I found not a damn thing 'funny' about
desi's paedomorphic comment. Truly, if we think of
someone who lacks 'wit,' the name desi wins
the race. And WHEN has he had ANYTHING to
say except lies, conspiracy theories and insults?
I get tired of that steady diet of his, and you need
to get off that high horse, and confront him again about
'firebomb' and 'the Baltimore County Police.'

'Irony' CANNOT be expressed through admissions of being a racist.
Thus axiomatically your comment can in no way be 'ironic.'

Context, PV, context. Phrases and words, in themselves abominable, should
be viewed in the context that where they are used and the audience they are
delivered to. Mr D gave an admirable illustration above of where the use
of the word 'nig-nogs' caused only hilarity and absolutely no offence as it
did in the original sketch. Other posters lack Mr D's delicate touch and
verge on the crass. However their intent is not 'racist' - they mean to
be humorous although their efforts often misfire.

Ummmm... If no one SEES it as 'irony,' it certainly can't be
said to be so. Just as telling a joke which draws no laugh
can be seen as anything but a pathetic cry for attention.
Which is mostly what I see from you.

Oh, shit.. desi.. everyone has been aware of it for so long, that
it's no longer seen as necessary to even remark on it. I do so,
simply because I don't like you. Using that particular word,
in the way you used it, can be seen as nothing else BUT
racist.

Potty mouth...
Racists always become VERY sensitive when their racism
is 'outted.' Some even go so far as to claim those who 'outted'
them are themselves racists for doing so. And apparently the
killfile method didn't work, so now you would presume to tell
me to 'shut the **** up.' Have you moved from the 'mysterious
conspiracy,' to the 'macabre lie,' to simply 'crass censorship'?

What you DID say was -- "My information was that he lost his job.
This came from the Baltimore County Police Department. I'm
not in the United States, and even if I were, would have better things
to do than to camp outside his house, to see if he still drove to the
same place." And then in that SAME post when you were asked
if it was an 'international crime.' You replied "Not 'international crimes'.
You're getting Drewl confused with Grüber (easily done). The offence
was a federal offence."

Now WHAT 'federal offence' are you speaking of? Certainly the
Baltimore County Police would NEVER provide you the information
of a 'federal offense' in a telephone call to a foreign country over
a year later. Regardless of your claim of being 'flabbergasted.'
It's just another turd-dropping, and knowing how the police
operate in the U.S., the idea is absurd. Nor would the BCP
report on a 'federal offense,' since they do not DEAL in such crimes.
They are investigated by the FBI, and not some hick county police
force.

And pardon me for calling you a liar... but you're a liar. Plus
it's MORE than Escambia county, since that is simply a remark
that may be false in respect to an argument which affects no
charge of a criminal act by any poster here. You are making
accusations in claiming another poster is a CRIMINAL, be he
a troll, or whatever. It IS PERSONAL. You are calling him a
CONVICTED CRIMINAL. And not, as in Escambia county,
something that may have been said in error in an argument
of IMPERSONAL circumstances. No poster here was accused
of being a criminal in Escambia county. But your comments
DO accuse a poster here of being a criminal. Your 'word' is NOT
GOOD ENOUGH under such conditions. If you make a
PERSONAL attack, calling someone a CRIMINAL, the
responsibility to PROVE that claim falls on YOU, sport... and
not the 'freedom of information act.'

Actually, desi... there is a little thing called semper prasumitur pro
negante, the presumption is always in the NEGATIVE. We DO NOT
have to research a claim you make, if YOU cannot prove that claim.
It simply becomes another unproven turd-dropping from you. Seeing
as how you are so adept at creating web pages and posting gifs to
those pages, why don't YOU request the information under that
act, and post it to a web page you can create?

Clearly, I can say that my family, including my 6 sisters, my
wife, and our 5 little daughters, were brutally and sadistically
raped and murdered by your father, who was then executed
as a pedophile serial killer, and that's why you oppose the DP,
while I support it. Then when asked to prove that claim I can
tell anyone they can verify it by making a 'request under the
Freedom of Information Act.'

Desmond... you're just a liar. But to prove that, I hope to
contact the BCP and ask for an Officer Rau, to see if such
a person even exists. Better start scampering, and claim
you were just being 'ironic.'

Strangely enough..you never remark on Don Kool's obvious gaffes
in such convoluted 'explanations' for them.

Keep in mind, I am not here defending my perception of desi
being a racist. It certainly goes deeper than his last racist
remark. Nor am I defending Don Kool's obvious gaffes (especially
those which are gender based). I am only commenting on what
I see in your present comment.

What's to misunderstand? Although you often acknowledge
that you are concerned with desi (when I directly question you
on that point), you still defend him on other occasions
when he is obviously flawed. This is one of those occasions.
Another was when I mentioned that desi has claimed I lust after
minor-age altar boys. And you defended that comment as 'a joke.'
Claiming that 'I' hold a 'prejudice' that takes over from common
sense. Well, pardon me if I see your 'prejudice' taking over
your common sense right here, because I see you again
trying to offer a convoluted 'explanation' for the racist slur
that desi provided here.

And in respect to Don, one has only to look at Google, in
your posts that remark on his postings, to recognize that
you ONLY suggest the poster place him in their killfile
as you have done. So how does that contradict my comment
that you never provide convoluted 'explanations' for Don Kool's
obvious gaffes? You simply wish others to place their head
in the sand, as you have done.

I would hope that you accept this comment in the vein in
which it is intended. I do not mean to say that you don't
at times appear appalled by desi... as any rational person
should be. But for that reason alone, it bothers me MORE
when I find you providing convoluted 'explanations' for his
comments. I expect it from others... I DO NOT expect it
from you. At the least, I would expect no comment from
you... and certainly not one attempting to justify his
words. I actually feel blind-sided when I see you providing
a comment which would try to JUSTIFY a comment of desi
that I find obscenely offensive. You may not find it AS
offensive as I do, but that does not mean you should try
to find it necessary to justify that comment to me.

When did I do that - a google ref would be useful?
You didn't use double quotation marks but I am interested
to see how you construed any of my remarks as a defence
for a stupid distasteful unfunny claim by Desmond. As I
see it, Desmond cannot make up his mind whether to be
a troll or a semi serious contributor. (Try as he might, he
will never be a fully serious poster.) He, therefore, falls
between the two and his comments lack the spontaneity
and sheer bloody mindedness of the true troll whilst hardly
ever contributing a worthwhile proposition or comment.
He does, however, occasionally make very funny remarks
which, sadly, you are not in a position to appreciate.

Again you fail to explain yourself. My comments were
about humour and definite racist remarks that are
appalling in themselves but when used in certain contexts
can be very funny. You never concede this point
which is why I happen to think that, deep down, you lack
a GSOH Now what has that got to do with "Don Kool's
obvious gaffes"?

I intimated that they were 'crass'. I think you will find
that Desmond is probably more hurt by that sort of
comment than all your OTT vituperation.

Donnie has posted nothing racist as far as I've been able to ascertain.
Presently, I only see his posts when they are quoted by others but I
don't imagine that he's changed at all.

His, ahem, "issues" with women are well documented, however. I firmly
believe that his sexism is a manifestation of his latent homosexuality
and his happiness would only be increased if he came out of the closet.

You replied to me -
"A joke, PV a silly scabrous joke, but a joke all the same."

And then you implied that 'I' had fallen off my trolley by
taking offense at such 'a joke.'

It certainly doesn't do any good to argue with ME. If YOU find
a problem with desi... your argument lies with HIM. I will, of
course, presume that I have every right to respond to such
'a joke.' And you are wrong.. he IS a 'serious' DANGER. A
danger to rational thought, regardless of any position on the
DP. He is a microcosm of one of the most dangerous macrocosms
we have among our species. Those who would lie, cheat,
deceive, insult, and use ANY methods presumably to advance
whatever agenda they might have. And the danger is that we
might BELIEVE him. That's why we should mention his lies
(such as when he provided a non-existent address), when we
see those lies. Because they demonstrate his METHODS
more than anything else. desi's agenda is quite apparent to
me. It is an anti-U.S. agenda. But, the agenda itself does not
concern me that much... others here have the same agenda.
As Richard pointed out, and I agree... it simply goes with the
territory. Call it 'penis envy' or whatever you wish. What concerns
me is desi's METHODS. Reflected into the greater scheme of
our species, it represents a DESTRUCTIVE thought process,
rather than a CONSTRUCTIVE thought process. We are supposedly
a 'rational' species, but desi thrives on irrationality. Lockerbie,
"the Balkans are not in Europe," his prayer to God for murderers,
his Theodore Frank argument, his 'dead cannot be honored'
argument, and the WTC attack are just some small examples
of how desi thrives on such irrationality. And it becomes worse
when he uses lies. God must have literally ducked His head in
shame, when desi came out the door. Like all production lines,
some flawed products are sure to emerge. desi is one of them.

There is NOTHING humorous about desi's comment which
contained that racial slur. Finding something 'humorous,'
in THAT particular comment is to blind yourself to the harm
such comments cause. Of course, there CAN be a humorous
content, if it is very clearly shown as intended to BE humorous,
and IS humorous. desi comments meets NEITHER of those
two criteria. It was insensitive, moronic, and destructive.
As most of his comments.

I fully realize that even the slightest criticism from YOU, is
much more damaging to him than anything I could say.
Whatever WORDS you use, are NOT the reason for that.
It is simply that desi NEEDS 'friends,' desperately. And
when someone, who holds the same agenda in respect
to the DP and Euro-centrist thinking, doesn't suck up to
him, where he can suck up in return, he becomes highly
agitated, almost explosive. With others, who he recognizes
as enemies, it is enough for him to call them pedophiles or
ask for oral copulation from their 15-year-old niece. He
realizes he has no other argument to offer.

If you think 'crass' bothers him from you... trying calling
him what he IS... a liar. Since it's obvious to you that he
is lying about his Paris address post. Or it should be, if
you understand the mechanics of Usenet as all. And I'm
sure you 'suspect' he is lying about don having had a hand
in an imaginary 'firebombing of his flat,' or receiving any hour
long phone call from a 'Baltimore County Police' officer, about
a federal crime and incarceration of Don as well. desi's
latest denial of having even provided an address, when the
evidence is there, should give everyone pause to reflect on
his OTHER absurd claims.

ho ho ho... do I detect a hint of hysteria? Possibly because your
'humor' is called into question? Perhaps others from those
'strange foreign lands' find 'humor' in racism. I do not. Nor do
those having feelings for others who they recognize as humans,
rather than 'object of ridicule.'

Don't be offended, desi. Rather than deny, you should try to
eliminate your prejudices to fit in with normal people. It's the
rational thing to do, rather than blind yourself to the obvious,
as you try to do with killfiles.

"And when someone, who holds the same agenda in respect to the DP and

Euro-centrist thinking etc" I would have appreciated it if you typed
'and/or Euro-centrist thinking'. The lack of an 'or' really hurt.

A step in the right direction for you, desi... you finally realize
your inadequacies. Now about that haircut....

You're a danger to the entire world, desi... not you personally,
but the microcosm you represent as part of that VERY
dangerous macrocosm of liars, thieves, cheats, and hypocrites.
Only that microcosm of murderers represent a worse threat.

Whether they are or are not... I will simply not assume that
you may play to them.

Actually, you not giving a 'flying fuck' is what represents your
weakness.

Quite a 'debate' desi. Actually, not much of anything you said
makes any sense. Presuming that 'giving a flying fuck' is a
weakness, is one of your more absurd conclusions. Right up
there with 'the Lockerbie Blair Witch Wind Shear Project.'

That was rather lame, Des. An old wheeze used by none other than
Donnie. Hang your head in shame.
