Version history of python

looking on the python.org website and searching the web, but I've only
found an essay by Guido tracing Python's influences, but not detailing
when these features made it into the language.

Misc/HISTORY in the source distribution has more than 200k of what you
ask for; Misc/NEWS has the changes since 1.5.1.
