You forgot Darla. Although she seems to spend most of her time

Just a liitttttle more powder on the nose! Speaking of "powder on
the nose", famous soccer goalkeeper Mark Bosnich was caught for
using cocaine. He said "I don't know how that drug got in my system".
HEY BOSNICH! LOOK IN THE MIRROR! See those little holes in the end
of your nose? They're called "nostrils", and THAT'S how cocaine gets
into your system!

You mean... I might become QUEEN OF UNSENET? Also, I never said that
people shouldn't post nonsense to UNSENET, just that they should
CHECK THEIR FACTS FIRST! Because if you don't check your facts first,
HOW CAN YOU BE SURE YOU'RE POSTING NONSENSE?

You're absolutely right, Jorn "Sonny" Barger. If those ArkChyx start
posting again the way they were before, this newsgroup will be nothing
but recipes, household cleaning tips, fashion news, and long, boring
posts about feelings and emotions and boys. Or did you have something
else in mind when you suggested that encouraging women to post here
would drag "the newsgroup down to the level of a chatroom"?

Only a sloppy reader would jump past 'lazy' to 'posting' when
assigning a referent to 'this'. ('Support' implies controversy,
and I made clear in the following paragraph that I don't see the
posting-qua-posting as controversial.

I could name a couple of others but a quick read through the "Who's Winning
(Posting Stats)" shows that this really is something of a boy's club.

So what was it that Calvin's club was called? Something like 'Get Rid of
Slimy girlS (GROSS)'. This could prove to be yet another great nickname
for ARK! It sure beats Bozotic Boy's Club which has always been a bit too
British sounding for my tastes.

Also Darla, you forgot Etienne Rouette. You know, that French chyk.

Here's a free writing tip, Jorn "Sonny" Barger, fresh from the oven
and filled with warm, sticky goodness:

To ensure clarity, demonstrative pronouns (this, these, that, those)
should be used as adjectives modifying a noun (as in, for example,
"these books") rather than as pronouns. When you leave one all by
itself in a sentence, like a bald-headed stepchild, you introduce
ambiguity. Another words, assiging a referent ain't my job--it's
yours.

Oh, look! Another writing tip: Don't blame "lazy" readers for your
lack of clarity.

>('Support' implies controversy,
>and I made clear in the following paragraph that I don't see the
>posting-qua-posting as controversial.
>

But you snipped that paragraph, so I guess we'll have to take your
word for it. BTW, you also snipped the part in which I asked for an
example of the kind of posts you expect from me, along with
annotations and instructions.

PS: Your post wasn't very entertaining. Please revise and resubmit.
For the time being, I'm giving it a D+, mostly because of the lack of
spelling errors and the tidy margins.

A bunch of those don't post because they don't read anymore. Rhianna,
Ellen, Satchi, Wednesday, Lisa, and even Red. Red stopped reading
because the newsfeed at Earthlink sucked, but I think she got a cable
modem now? So maybe that's changed and I can lure her back. ObGossip:
She's in New Jersey RIGHT NOW, acronym acronym.

Sam Wilkinson cannot post because Matt McIrvin does post, and apparently
there's some rule. That may also be preventing Plorkwort from posting
but I have not stayed updated.

Sarah Cherlin, and her brother Clement, have been sold into slavery at
Infogrames, or, technically, one of those fake temp agencies Silicon
Valley companies use to hire people into sweatshop conditions. WHY WOULD
ANYBODY LIVE IN SILICON VALLEY? IT'S A FUCKING HELL HOLE! WHY? WHY?

My GOD! This is the most exciting exchange EVER! Verily, I am about to

I am very glad that ARK discussions remain on this plane and do not

AHEM AHEM GIF AHEM.

Things I found sexxy in the last few days: three, at least, of the friends in
my gaming circle (all of whom were at the New Year's Eve party, no I won't
misapostrophize that to bait Kevin, but there was No Mistletoe though there
were chips, dip, and Kisses (Hershey's) plus chili, and one of them had his
gir'friend with him in her lovely puprle cape and high leather boots, though
they weren't the highest there, and the other two I'm not worth the time of);
several people at work, most of them The Usual Suspects; and a few people
elsewhere the details of which I'll leave out because most of you don't want
to hear about incredibly sensuous finger-stroking etc or where it was.

Things that were Interesting but not technically sexxy: the sundog on Monday;
actually finding a certain thing in our online 'help' system as the last thing
I did at work last year (you can't find it by looking directly for it, it
turns out - you have to look for something else then go sideways); casual days
coming out our EARS at the moment; the saga of the New Year's Day-scheduled
installations... and there was something else I was going to tell my imaginary
friends about but it's gone out of my head again, sorry.

That's just too sad. Most of us have only been here eight to ten years,
so I can see where you would consider us newbies and shit. Actually, I
look around and see only 5 or 6 people who were here before my triumphant
beginnings in 1994 - that really sucks! How can a group be this dynamic
and yet stay active?! We have got to cut down the immigrants to less than
one per decade. The current rule of "2 new people a year" is so out of
hand.

>E.(so Hi, howzitz, and stuff, and such)Holmes

Thanks for going to the trouble of searching, but don't worry about it.
I would kind of wonder what was wrong with you if you had put my posts
in the same category as Leah's, Darla's, Kibo's and Pacheco's. I'm not
here to preen, but to hang out.

We can't all be great internet luminaries. Actually, devilishly
handsome, wickedly funny and connected to world power as he is, the
thing I like best about Pacheco is that he is a down to earth,
interesting person who loves to talk about his son as much as he likes
to talk about politics and chocolate asses filled with salsa and trips
to Vegas with bin Laden and Jack Chick. Even Kibo is very down to
earth, and he's a net god, for heaven's sake! I won't even talk about
all the other people who are low key here but are hugely talented and
respected in their real life fields except to say that I am most
impressed by the fact that they feel no need to strut and preen here.

All of the kibologists I have met in real life have proven to be
exceedingly wonderful and real people who are far more interesting than
the sum of their posts, no matter how good their posts may be. I love
the community here. Of course there are people whose posts I am not
into, but even with my newsreader's rudimentary killfile abilities and
total lack of any scorefile, I can deal with that. I wouldn't even have
told you to keep reading and stop posting if you hadn't set yourself up
for it and made it impossible to resist as far as cafeteria style
one-liners go. You're Allowed, whether you are making me laugh or
bugging the hell out of me. That's the beauty of the internet. I don't
even have to get out of my barcalounger to chase any particular person
or post offa my lawn.

The thing that I find odd is that your claim to fame is to read other
peoples' work and point still other people to it, which by its nature is
lacking in original, creatively funny writing by yourself. There's
nothing wrong with that. Critics have their place. But it seems
strange that you would then be the person most insistent that people be
creative and funny. It also strikes me as odd that one of your chief
complaints is that certain people give public kudos to the posts or
posters they find most entertaining, which implies that everyone else is
chopped liver. Yet that is, in essence, what your blog is. I assume
that you have judged those posts, sites or articles that you have not
linked to your blog to be inferior to those you have pointed to and that
you have /chosen/ to make your judgments public instead of keeping them
private. I don't have any problem with your doing so, but it does
strike me as hypocritical that you then complain about others doing so.

So, I'm glad that I made you laugh in the same way that it pleases me to
make anybody here laugh. I am also pretty much unconcerned whether you
note that in your blog or whether anyone else calls public attention to
me. If this was all a popularity or writing contest of some kind, I
wouldn't be here. As long as it is an interesting community of people I
get a kick out of for many reasons, I will continue to be drawn here, at
least periodically. I assume there are people who are glad of that,
people who wish I'd leave and people who don't care one way or the
other. All of the above are okay by me.

Thank fucking Bob I never met you, I'd hate to have to live up to this
kind of standard. My posts suck, I'm dowdy and boring in a cosmic
black-hole kind of way, and I have co-workers who tell me daily that I'm
"happy", "smiley", and they can't ever imagine me "really mad or
anything". The idea of trying to act appropriately in a Kibological
manner just sends chills down my spine. Or trying to act normal - normal
people wouldn't be visiting me or my hefty kewl extree wide trailer.
Actually, several ARKites have, in the past, taken extreme lotion [1]

Some of you like the travelling thousands of miles to visit people you

I'm just here to preen. Or maybe just to *say* "preen", which sounds
like laundry detergent or cleaning fluid. PREEN! PREEEEEEEEN!

As long as the definition of "preen" includes the meaning "to remove
the ticks and chiggers from one's fur, and then post them to the
Internet"

I have no idea what you're talking about. You proles are always going
on and on about things of which you know nothing! Silly proles! Shine
my shoes!

The Great Thing(tm) about this new War On Terrorism(tm) deal with Iraq
is that I can just repost my articles from 1991 and the original Gulf
War, and I don't even have to change the name of the President! Now
THAT is getting your money's worth from all the "How to Write Stuff and
Shit" videos I bought in the 80s.

Speaking of my son, he has now learned to distinguish right from wrong.
I know this, because every time he starts toddling towards the wine
racks with the intent to jiggle each bottle to see if it explodes, he
looks back at me with a very serious look and says "No! No!" while
shaking his head. I nod my head and say "That's right! Don't mess
with daddy's liquor, you little goober, or you will come to know severe
pain intimately, yea, even unto the seventh generation!" and he just
keeps going. He stands there, one hand wagging a finger at me, one
hand trying to tip the racks over, terribly serious look on his face.

He's a smart kid. I took him up to Vasquez Rocks last week, and he
still found his way back home. I took a sample of his DNA and
digitized it, and when I play the file back on my MP3 player it sounds
like Tipper Gore's voice did during the Senate hearings on obscenity in
music when her program malfunctioned and her face fell off and we saw
her true robot nature, so now my son has a little sticker on his butt
that says "WARNING! For Mature Audiences Only!"

You can see it (butt or sticker) on any of the thousands of digital
pictures I have taken of him, samples of which I have posted to my
website that only exists in my mind.

> Even Kibo is very down to

This means you have only met Kibo's earthly manifestation, which is
definitely down to earth, I agree. Once you meet transdimensional
Kibo, you will understand the pain that can only be achieved by making
a pun across all known coordinates of space, time and nougat. REPENT,
SINNER, FOR YE KNOWETH NOT WHAT TIME SHALL BE THE TIME OF RECKONING AND
SHIT!

> I won't even talk about

I am hugely talented and respected in my real life field, plus women
find me attractive and want to wash my tires with their hair. I can do
anything I set out to do in life, except get Ted Frank to pay for
sushi. Also, I've lost 17 pounds, and I went to a seminar last week on
health and workout issues where the speaker--supposedly a PhD in
workoutology--kept mispelling the word "muscle". He warned against
caffeine consumption but someone called him on the fact he had a huge
venti from Starbucks under the podium. 'Bout as sharp as a mouthful of
warm spit, that boy; his head was shaped like an oil drum with ears,
and every time someone asked him a question his brain emitted a
KLANGing noise and stopped functioning for two minutes.

So last week I learned that working out makes you DUM. Therefore, in
order to further my ambitions of becoming Mr. Universe, I've decided to
read and post to Usenet more often.

HAH! MY KEY NEEDS TO BE LOWERED! I myself am disrespected and untalented
in my real life "field" which is why the pizzas always arrive late and I'm
rude to customers if they piss me off, which they can do just by wearing
the wrong color shirt sometimes. Or by calling me "Bro". I hate "Bro".
I'm so "respected" I got written up the other day... just for sleeping
through my alarm clock and being three hours late! What has happened to
the economy that you get in trouble just for showing up a few hours late?
I mean, I still showed up didn't I?* The only talents I had at pizza
delivery were non-job-related; those talents being making cow-orkers laugh
(at least at the south store where people could lighten up) and scaring
customers because I was yelling at a sixteen-year-old cow-orker to put his
damn helmet back on or else he'd get hurt.

Right now, I'm trying to get a PC tech support job again. My anger towards
doing that kind of work has dissipated as my anger towards being poor has
grown. Plus, people buying foodstuffs are just as annoying (if not moreso)
as those wanting their computers to stop beeping because they left their
Dilbert mug on their keyboard... at least it seems that way after a three-
year break from doing the latter**.

-- Schwa ---

* - Yes, this is sarcasm. No, I am not really this stupid. Well, the
complaining about being written up over being late part is sarcasm. Being
annoyed at strangers calling me "Bro" isn't... it's a big pet peeve of
mine.

** - tech support that is, not leaving mugs on keyboards

speaking of your world power, apparently someone else connected to
that same world power and borrowed a projector from this guy here in
sacramento that runs his own media studio. so, as a result, we were
unable to project classic star trek onto the next building at our

I would take that bet and make HUNDREDS IF NOT THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS if
it were not for the fact that Sean SMIOOPSLASNAMERE went back in time
to last summer and barged into my life for about three and a half
minutes for the SOLE PURPOSE of foiling my plan. CURE YOU, SEAN!

Why he didn't simply go back five days and show up for the hot tub
party instead, I don't know. It's not like the hot tub was jammed
with people or anything. We'd had sleet since the night before and
everyone in town was like OH NO WE CAN'T GO ANYWHERE THERE'S SLEET OUT
THERE so maximum occupancy at any time was only three and two halves.
NEENER NEENER, WE SAT IN THE SLEET IN A TUB OF HOT WATER AND YOU
DIDN'T.

Or maybe Sean SMIHAHABETYOUTHOUGHTIWASGONNASAYITLASNAYMERE did go back
to 1 Jan, but approached us from the south, and tried like a stupid
stupid person to drive up the hill at the south end of Griffin Road
(i.e. from Griffin's Corners), just like I tried to did on Saturday.
There was a dusting of snow on the road but I figured just because the
ABS never kicked in on the hills and curves of Hitchins Road, and I
never noticed any skidding or spinning, that meant I'd be able to
drive up Griffin. WHAT A MAROON! Which is why I, who have about a
10% chance when backing out of my own driveway in broad daylight in
wintertime of getting stuck in a snowbank, found myself backing down a
hill for about 1/4 mile, at night, around a curve, with a ditch on one
side of the road and snowbanks on the other, with the ABS once again
going wokkawokkawokka and cars going by on Route 80 as I approached
it, and somehow making it.

The rest of the drive back from Ithaca was a piece of cake.

Ithaca... Ithaca... omigod, there are Kibologists in Ithaca too,
aren't there. We can only hope none of them were at the Twelfth Night
celebration (which took place on Eleventh Night), even further foiling
my plan. CURE YOU ALL!!!!

I missed the Twelfth Night celebration because I was driving home from
Rochester in the same damn snowstorm. I am pleased to report that the
stranded trucker we picked up did not have a knife, and really did just want
to get back to Ithaca.

Also, I am sneaking out of work early today to go skiing at Greek Peak. If
any kibologists wish to take advantage of the "Four for $40" deal with me,
please advise soon.

You know, I think that might be the 21st century's most important new
e-business model. I'm going to invest fifty million dollars in it now,
as long as you promise I'll get back ten times that in exactly ten years.
It'll succeed as long as your advertising involves hiring two, not just
one, person to dress up in a big fuzzy tick suit and wander around
Manhattan bothering pedestrians. I suggest getting the Not Tim Allen
guy from the live Buzz Lightyear show at Disneyland.

He's another child whose life will be ruined by the new 7-Up advertising
campaign. They've started printing their logo upside-down on the bottles,
and the store displays have signs that say "FLIP IT!" in Scott Kim-style
lettering that looks exactly as ugly when turned upside down.

Apparently this is supposed to be a callback to their 1970s "the Uncola"
ad campaign which featured glasses designed to look like upside-down
soda-fountain glasses (the sort nobody has used, right-side-up or upside-down,
in thirty years.) But now they're just telling you to flip the bottle
over a few times before unscrewing the highly pressurized cap.

Did "the Uncola" commercials come before or after those animated ones
where the message was that if you drank 7-Up, you'd turn into an
LSD-inspired neon butterfly? Hmm, maybe we could do some sort of
cross-promotion with our eTick business.

> He's a smart kid. I took him up to Vasquez Rocks last week, and he

Well, sure. All he had to do was head directly away from the "Star Trek"
fistfight music.

I need to visit Vasquez Rock someday, now that I've been to Bronson Film Cave
(And it isn't even a cave! It's a tunnel! Why couldn't Lois Lane ever figure
out that she could just walk out the back? How come the Riddler never
wandered into the Batcave through Batman's wide-open back door?) and I've
seen the "Damnation Alley" Landmaster and the Bradbury building and
Griffith Observatory and Forrest Ackerman's house before he moved out
so, once I visit Vasquez Rock, I will have been in every place robots,
Martians, and zombies have ever been.

That reminds me, I had some Japanese noodles a while ago where the
packet's ingredients included "adductor muscle", and I don't whether if
they meant shellfish or butts. I recall those also included "cat's ear",
which I think is the same as "jew's ear", meaning little black leather
fungi that grow on dead trees. But the "adductor muscle" is a mystery.

Wait, you mean there's somthing I've done that Kibo HASN'T? BESIDES
misspell "something"? All I know is, now whenever I seen one out of the
ten episodes TOS filmed there or any western made before 1964 I can say
"Hey, that's where my aunt broke her ankle!" Then I usually lie about how
we had to make our own shotgun shells to hold off President Hitler long
enough for the EMTs to get the stretcher up the slope.

You're thinking of exclamation marks. You are doled out a finite
supply of exclamation marks at birth, and when you use them up you
die. That's why exclamation marks are best reserved for such
expressions as "The universe is on fire."

If orgasms operated on the same principle, then all of these lonely
ARK-bois would be trying to get not laid this weekend. It's
unfortunate that orgasms don't operate on the same principle, because
some of these ARK-bois are getting good at getting not laid.

They're acronyms. In Aseioniezi.

Heck no, I have to deal with 'associates' sometimes. Bleah.

Oh, and Stacia? Used to be The Avocado Avenger. But we think her sekrit
identity was published in the Congressional Record or something so she had to
give it up. (Gir'friend.)

High above Cayuga's waters, there's an awful smell.
And the town's folk all will tell you
that it's called Cornell.

Holiday Valley is so much greater than Greek Peak, Mister Finger Lakes Man!
But downhill skiing's for you young people, so I lose.

That's as may be, but it's about six times farther away. If I were going to
drive three hours to go skiing, I'd just go to Ski Windham! (If I were
going to drive three hours to go drinking while wearing a ski hat, I'd go to
Hunter.)

Especially when you go during working hours. I was dragging the average age
of the place up a lot more than I'm used to, and I often visit daycare
sites.

Damn you people who troll me into posting when I have nothing clever to say,

Matt, you're using up the universe's supply of exclamation marks!
