Though they decline to reverse any part of their decision regarding
our deductible or our coverage, they have agreed to review our
situation every year (instead of waiting for four years) to see if
they can upgrade our coverage.
I suppose that's something--- and thank you for your suggestion. It
never would have occurred to me to challenge their decision.
I wish I had been smarter on the day and had urged Vlad to eat the

Insurance: Never make a claim! (The First Rule is: Always pay your

Thanks again.

Well, boo hiss to those corporate swines. However, I guess unless you
can get the former owners to 'fess up that they repaired everything with
spit and cotton balls and then walled it up so no one could tell, there's
not much more you can do.
Around here, there's an urban legend that back in the '30s, a farmer's
claim was denied because he couldn't prove the neighbor had stolen his
missing cows, so the farmer marched into the office with the neighbor at
gunpoint, and the neighbor was happy to confess to his sins.
Not that I'm suggesting that here. Much. But you may want to get
someone to look at your house to see what else the former owners screwed
up on. ("Oh look, honey, they used gum wrappers in the breaker box...")

Well, if you think of insurance as being there for the really big claims
only and not being helpful for the smaller claims, it makes it easier on
you, but it doesn't seem right that smaller claims count against you so
much. It's not like you have a tornado magnet on your roof or anything.

20% of my weekly pay to the insurance company so that the wife can

Forget about quitting smorking, I'll need to begin an *eating*

And y'all can forget that line about "we're a business, if we just

The insurance person acknowledged in their reply to us that the
disasters were clearly not caused by any action or omission on our
parts. Bozo and his clan packed up and moved to a different province.
We have no clue where they are, and our lawyer asserts that it would
cost us a bundle to find him and then try to prosecute.

Yep--- we've pretty much done that. Well, as much as we can without
digging up the entire house and putting it on stilts so we can look
underneath.

Yep. We wuz dumm. Tough lesson--- but thanks for your help, Stacia.
Consider four years of bad karma expunged from the akashic record.
Here in Austria, insurance companies are worried that global warming
will eat into their precious profit margins, so they are lobbying

Thankfully, we don't do health insurance, which is a bigger racket than
other insurances. Kansas is a "no fault" state which means that insurance
companies lobbied (i.e. bribed) polititians into making it mandatory to
have insurance, or you will be arrested and fined and drawn and quartered.
My roomie, who didn't own a car, discovered that he needed insurance even
if the car he drove was insured by the owner. He had to get car
insurance, for no car. Or face incarceration.
So yeah, it's a racket.
But health insurance - let me tell you something, your health insurance
costs too fucking much because idiot assholes sue for no reason. Also
because idiot doctors fuck up and amputate the wrong limb. And because
drugs cost so much nowadays...
They cost a lot because drug companies spend so much to advertise.
Also they give out cute widdle "premiums" to medical clinics via drug reps
who are really just salesman trying to bribe doctors into prescribing
their drug. You should see the premiums they come up with. My Mother The
Nurse comes home with hundreds of post it notes, pens, frames, magnets,
mugs, shirts, calendars, movies, plants, dinnerware, candles, figurines,
beanie babies... you name it. Oh, and the lunches. Good lord, these drug
reps show up with hundreds of dollars of food for the entire clinic *every
day*. Drugs reps are also paid more money than you and I will ever make
in our lives, presumably because they sign away their soul.
Drug companies also shell out millions to get their drug approved for
over the counter sale, so they can make more money.
So don't accept any bullshit about why drug prices go up, or why health
care costs go up.

When I was in the hospital for (one of many reasons) I shared the recovery room

so they wouldn't open up the wrong one.
Also, post-op happy drugs are fun.

I was naive enough to think this was no longer legal.
P.S. The ones who give out free samples of their stuff are lovely for people
who are poooooooooooooooor.
I did not notice this. In fact, very few drugs seem to affect my brane.
Maybe I am immune to their evil influence. That or when I'm on em I just

As I was being prepped for surgery, with the anaestheic imposingly

there had been a mistake on the consent form and I needed to resign it.
The mistake was not really in the procedure, but they had written down
the wrong leg - they were due to operate on the right leg, which was
b0rken, but I had agreed to surgery on the left. A minor quibble.

The doctor had marked my leg with big arrows also, and the arrows were
on the broken leg. Like I wrote before, it was just the leg written on

I had nice long paper trails of what I _did_ pay for, check by check, that

Followup: found the bills I -did- get from that episode, plus $InsCo's
itemizated listing, and this one appears neither hither nor yon. Raising my
suspicions that they just sat on this bill for a year and a half, without
even trying to submit it (everyone ELSE got theirs to $InsCo, and everybody
ELSE got the remainer mailed to my mailbox, and $CollAgency's mail arrived
quite nicely too, and I've lived in the same place, same phone number except
for area code which has changed twice so far, for nearly twelve years now),
then turned it over to $CollAgency in a snit from not receiving payment for
their Telepathically Submitted Billing Item...

In similar news, I got copies of my credit report and found a past due
on there from the hospital. I called them because I paid the bill last
summer. As they so smartly said, "It shouldn't be on your credit report."
I said, "It is, please take care of it." They just said, "DUH... it
shouldn't be on your credit report."
I told them I would stop by their office over lunch hour which was
conveniently in 15 minutes and where were they located? Because I'd love
to chat with them about this with all 3 credit reports in hand which show
they haven't gotten off their collective asses to report this as paid.
THAT'S NOT NECESSARY MA'AM WE'LL GET THIS OFF YOUR CREDIT RATING EXCUSE ME
WHILE I CALL SECURITY PLEASE DON'T HURT ME.
Then they tell me that CS Ed's hospital stay resulted in an amount due
insurance didn't pay for. Except this was 2 years ago and CS Ed was never
sent a bill. I even called the collection agency who insists, yes, they
sent s bill. To who (whom?), I wonder, since they didn't send it to *us*.
Again, I have to wonder, do these places even want their money or do
they just want to fuxxor our credit ratings?

Actually the World Wrassling Federation was forced in court to change to
the WWE because the WWF (World Wildlife Fund) essentially was ruled to
have Dibs on the initials WWF. IANMTU.
